The keyboard has no idea what it's attached to, all it knows are that power and USB signals come down the pins the white connector connects to. If you connect the wires in the wrong order you may kill the board but you could cut the connector off a cable and solder the wires straight to those pins and it would work just fine. I still think it's worth the extra $7 next time for the one that mounts though - sticking either means it comes off too easily which is annoying or risking damaging the case trying to remove it or worse, it's permanently stuck and you can't replace it if it breaks again.
