ATMega with lightning port?

The good old ATMega32U4 can talk USB, but is it possible to swap the USB interface by a Apple lightning one? I'm not an Apple fanboy but I like the handling of lightning interface more.

- you'd have to find a female lightning connector
- find the pinout
- and if there is anything specific with that port/connection.... is it actually usb? only ever seen it on phones/tablets... thunderbolt is usb but requires a slight adjustment to connections being usb3.

.... sound like a way to accidentally fry a port on the host.

In what way?

AFAIK, every Lightning plug has a chip inside of it, and the pins have to be configured before use.
That's how it can have its pins safely exposed on the outside of the connector without causing a short: the chip first has to be activated.
This is very unlike USB which has the pins inside a protective shield, and where each pin has a dedicated use.

yeah, they use the same connector for all kinds of applications. everything from charging to data to audio...

Thing is, I'm not particularly happy with my USB-C receptable, it wiggles and somehow feels cheap when plugging the cable in or off. Lightning on the other side: no wiggle, sturdy handling, quality. At least that is my impression.

Findecanor, there is a chip inside .. really? I can get a Lightning receptable for like 0,10$ ... would surprise me if this price tag includes a chip, but ok, I might be wrong ...
