jd i am getting the $40 PCB that is presoldering and paying for assembly..i don't have any soldering experience or equipment. i plan on getting hhkb layout if that makes a difference. i just want the basic stabilizers, as long as they are easy to switch out keycaps.

Yes, then you should get PCB mount Cherry stabilizers. This goes for anyone else who doesn't know which to order. :)

Are you assembling this yourself? Cherry PCB mount stabilizers should probably be listed as the default option. They are the easiest to install, if you are new to DIY. The plates might require some sanding/filing to work well with Costar stabilizers.

Can you explain a little more about Costar stabilizers and how they're installed? I prefer Costar stabilizers and GH60 will be my first DIY board.

Is there a difference in the feel of Cherry PCB vs Cherry plate mounted stabilizers?

I have access to costar and cherry plate mount boards but never tried a board with cherry pcb mount stabilizers. Thanks

Edited to show what I meant to ask. Difference between the two types of Cherry stabs. Thanks jd

Costars feel crispy to me while Cherry stabilizers can feel a bit mushy. However Costars have the annoying inserts and take a little more time to swap caps out. Cherry stabs you just pop the cap off and put a new cap on.

Thanks. I ask because I'm trying to decide between the universal plates and the ones that accept plate mounted cherry stabs... I have both types of stabs from parting out old wyse boards

Really I hate changing caps on the costars so much, I'm definitely going with cherry stabs one way or the other. Plus then I won't have to buy any :-)

Edit: yeah I could have worded that better. I was specifically wondering about Cherry PCB vs Cherry Plate Mount

Go with plate mount cherry stabs!

My question is (lol) why is it so hard to find aluminum Poker cases and why we're so few made?

Edit - lol don't answer my question

The best Cherry stabs are the original PCB mount design that bolt on.

Instead of the pinch pin at one end it's a hollow pin and there's a screw you screw into it once it's on the PCB.  Wyse terminal boards have these on the space bar.

The ones I have do but of a different design... there is a plastic leaf spring protruding from the housing that the stem lands on.

The ones I have didn't. They came from a PCB mount board DEC type layout copy from 1985 I got for like $8 that was broken. I used them on my GH60. Also on my Commodore and Amiga they have these type. Both of those are old too, made in 1985 and 1987.

I purchased a new stab set that is very similar to what I have off the Wyse, however the key stem is only 2mm long... very odd.

what's the point of switch stickers?

The claim is that the switches are slightly wobbly when installed onto the plate and the switch stickers eliminate the stickers. But the common consensus seems to be that the stickers don't really do much besides look cool.

Das I was a dome board, Das II was a Cherry stabilized board, and the Das III is a Costar Stablized board. The Das II internals can be swapped with a G80-3000 (winkey) internals.

Also, how do you fix a sticking buckling spring? The Enter on my numpad will stay down unless I press it a very particular way (I have to press the very front of it; not on top, but the front side).

I think it does, Hyde was on the quality checking of the latest model last I heard. Perhaps PM him?
Also, most buckling spring problems are fixed by reseating the keycap. If not, a picture may help. :)
