[IC] Big Dill Extended - GB open until November 21st
« on: Wed, 14 October 2020, 23:05:54 »
The GB is active now until the end of the day November 21st. You can go to the product page directly with this link. Thank you for all your support and be sure to stay on the lookout for our next project!

We are MechWild, a new 3 person keyboard studio based in the US. Today we are announcing our first board, the Big Dill Extended. We’ve talked about this board extensively on other platforms previously but we are making it official with this GeekHack thread today.

If you already have thoughts and feedback on this board from previous interactions with us, here is the IC Form link. If you want to do some more learning about the BDE, keep reading and there’ll be another IC form link down below.

Simply put, this is an ortholinear 30% + numpad throughhole kit with Kailh hotswap.  The PCB is flippable to allow right handed or southpaw numpad. Enough about the inner workings, what will the case be?

Since this is a pickle themed board, the only logical choice is to contain all of this in a sandwich case. Our goal with this board is to provide an affordable, accessible, through hole kit that utilizes hotswap and a unique layout. Our target price for this board is between 35 and 50 USD. It is a sandwich case board so it won’t be the most dill-uxe in your collection but we know you’ll have a lot of fun building and using it.

The keyboard uses a simple sandwich case. Two FR4 plates, standoffs, and some screws. To assemble the PCB, you will need to solder the Pro Micro, diodes, and hotswap sockets to the board. After that, it’s your typical plugging in of the switches and screwing together of the case.

Our prototype is assembled and it looks great! Only a few changes need to be made as far as fit and alignment go but that won't change the appearance of the board in any major way.

Hey, everyone, I just uploaded some of the photos of the prototype build and threw in a quick update. We've already got a few good responses on the IC form despite me posting it super late.

Howdy y'all. Kyle (sillyworld) here. Here are a couple more images of the first prototypes. This time showing off the right-handed configuration and the PCB mounted stabs.

Thank you for the amazing feedback so far! It really helps. I have already made a few tweaks for the next prototypes that we will be updating the post with later.

Just ordered the second round of prototypes! Added a couple features and fixed a few mechanical fit problems I wasn't a big fan of. I also made a couple style/design changes for the way it looks. I'm pretty excited for this next batch!

We also built a website with some more information and pictures. You can visit it here:
