I thought the base was gonna be POM?

Possibly an availability/cost effectiveness thing? If I'm not mistaken POM is a fair bit more expensive to work with than nylon with minimal benefits or differences in this application.

As long as it achieves the desired light diffusing properties though..  ;D

Btw jchan and rama, great work. This looks like it's coming together very well!

The pricing we got for POM and NYLON were nearly identical, but nylon really diffused well and we felt more comfortable doing it. you can definitely see this in the video above, and it looks awesome.

Everything is coming together now and I'm setting up for the GB stage.

Without knowing how many people will commit to this case, I think it'll have to be run via a Google Document and done via PP invoicing unless we get past 100 submits. If that happens, I'll run it via my store to have a better backend to everything for shipping logistics.

Hopefully whatever system you run this on, ordees doesn't close till later in the month (around Dec 21st?)

Looking at the year, I can say that it is starting to close. I am considering everything when I have samples in hand to launch.

There is a likely chance that it'll spill over into 2017 for order collection.

He mentioned a few posts back that cost was about the same but the nylon diffuses the LED light more effectively/in a better way.

Currently we're looking at alternative bottom materials. Looks like the piece is too long and has some "bow" to it! We're currently exploring Frosted acrylic bottoms, but still really want it to be Nylon.

After seeing the M4-A feel and quality of the Nylon, I really hope we can make it possible!

Samples are being sent to rama for the bottom for him to review, and we're trying our best to get this settled in the best way possible so we have everything properly set up before we even start talking about a group buy for this amazing case.

"Bow" - is it contracting after machining? Good luck, I hope you guys can sort it out! Nylon would suit perfectly :)

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to update everyone with the following information:

1) We will be processing everything via Google Documents

2) Invoicing via Paypal and Fees

3) Limit of 200 units for R1. R2 will be planned of course, but only after R1 is shipped.

4) Currently updating PCB to include split spacebar and what not.

5) Looks like we'll most likely start this in late December to roll over into January, or we may start in January so we start the new year with a bang :)

6) If you ordered Hydro, we will have a special Hydro Blue edition that will be "really blue" available for you. You can choose the other colors if you really want however.

Any possibility of some unique engraving for R1 buyers like with R1 WhiteFox to make us all fuzzy and special inside?

Is there any chance at all that the Blue will be available widely? I know I'm being very selfish and difficult, but it would fit the colour scheme of my next keyboard so well and I don't want to drop $180 just so I can buy the blue aluminum case and then re-sell the keys.

I thought about this, but hydro was my baby and I want to make it special with a color available only to those who helped make it a reality.

Its a purely selfish decision, I can assure you that, but I hope you understand the reasoning behind it.

Will the Hydro edition be limited to one per person? If not I can already see people buying multiples and flipping them on mm for profit.

I understand, Jchan. I'm honestly considering buying Hydro just to support you (it's ridiculous how much effort you put into making this community better). We'll see how my financial situation is doing by the time the JC65 GB goes up.
I'm assuming that when that particular GB goes up, and there are GMK Hydros still left for sale that I can place an order for both simultaneously?

You bring up a good point, but then people are going to be flipping this keyboard for a profit regardless for years to come. Anyone really set on duping people would only have to reanodize a regular colour JC65 if they're that malicious anyway.
Of course JC decides how he handles his GB, but I was just adding my opinion to the conversation.

Flipping will always be an issue with limited supply.

R2 will happen though and that should prevent flipping in some capacity.

If someone flips a Hydro edition they're crazy. They'd have to buy Hydro too just to flip one board. I mean if they're looking to flip just join the next keyset gb and buy 10. Probably better roi.

Considering the idea of flippers, it might be more keen of me to keep the price point at the 100 unit price point so that people opt in less.

In any case, these are things I will have to consider when we are ready to get up and running with everything. I certainly want everyone to have this beautiful case and board, and want to prevent the horrors of the aftermarket

If you make it so everyone who bought Hydro get's first dibs, then I don't care, that should stop flippers cause they would have had to drop $140+ in order to even get a spot (Or I could just be pushing my agenda since I got a set of Hydro). Otherwise if you plan to have a R2 anyways, I would want you to try and get it priced as low as possible. Make it so people can't buy more than one based on paypal address, geekhack account or something. Lower prices will always be preferred by the mass majority of us :thumb:

That's a good point to be made for Hydro.

Will take it into consideration, but still, I don't like pushing people out.

I'll have to think long and hard about this.

If I can put in my 2 cents, I think you're going to have flippers regardless. But the knowledge of a R2 should stop the most egregious examples. If R1 is limited, however, I think you should restrict purchase numbers so that everyone can get a shot, or (less desirably) make it a raffle style sale.

Also, I vote for opening the sale in January. Don't want to assume anyone else's financial/holiday situations, but I'm trying to save up for my friends and family this month!

My 0.02: I would like to see the GB just run to order with extras for the store. I'm sure all of us who are here want it and personally I wouldn't mind waiting especially if it was run in waves as the first whitefox was done. The case looks awesome and would love to actually have at least two of them. I'm not a fan of exclusivity of Hydro getting you in either.

I think some of you are going waaaay over the top with ideas for eliminate flipping  :))  It is impossible. There will never be a consensus on imposing a set of restrictions. Rules that work for you will might still alienate legit customers and make them more likely to buy from the after market.

200 units is a lot of keyboards! jchan has been quite clear that this project is to get a high quality keyboard for a great price point AND he's already mentioned a second round. Maybe he can chime in, but I have no idea why he would want to artificially make the keyboard 'rare'. Sounds like he will get as many made as he can given his schedule.

The issue here is people who will miss the R1 and then feel like they can't wait until R2. Ironically, people in this thread getting heated about missing out will only make people more ravenous to enter R1 on fear of missing out! It will also increase the probability of people wanting to buy from the R1 aftermarket as well.

For the limed edition colorway; you are not entitled to get a blue keyboard just because you have money! jchan spent a lot of time and money to build up to the point where he is able to run this GB, if he wishes to reward the people who helped him get there then so be it! If you want something so badly that you'll pay a crazy amount on the aftermarket, that is not jchan's fault. (note: I didn't buy a Hydro set)

Looking forward to getting a Rose Gold one. If I miss out, no bother, I'll line up for R2  :thumb:

I did buy Hydro but I think I will not get the exclusive colour, because I already own everything Rama in space gray  :p

In a perfect world, I'd get both colours, but eh my wallet might have a thing or two to say about that...

I thought JC said $210 for the case? Not sure if that is a firm number. PCB is around $50.

New photos from manu #2. Making some legit progress now.

The nylon looks AMAZING compared to previous samples made.

It is a pity that does not work, but in any case super cool, the result is incredibly stunning. Would be fun to take a look at more samples of colors, I as a participant in hydro, very excited about the blue one

Definitely looking forward to this.  Eventually I'll just sell my body to afford all these GBs :p
