Skeldon Phantom Case GB [Getting ready to ship TO YOU!]
« on: Mon, 10 June 2013, 15:57:35 »
This is a group buy for the Skeldon Phantom Case.

Disclaimer:  This case is custom and it is expensive.  It is created from high end materials and high end tooling.  It is also very heavy which creates high shipping costs.  Boost worked really hard to make this the ultimate case, so if you can not afford it, or do not like it, please take your comments elsewhere.

The Case:
24998-025000-125002-225007-3

FAQs

How much does the case weigh? 5.5 lbs / 2.49 Kilograms
What boards will it fit?  The included plate is designed for the Phantom, but future compatible plates will allow for other boards.
Can I order more than one? Yes, just fill out the form a second, or third time.
What color is the plate? All plates will be anodized in Gold
Can I make the top and bottom different colors? No
How long will this be open?  This buy will tentatively be open until June 30th

The Cost
$290 + Anodizing + Shipping + PayPal

Breakdown
Top Half $60
Bottom Half $150
Plate $30
Sanding $20
Chamfer $15
Screws $5
TechKeys Order Fulfillment $10

Anodizing costs $90 per color, and with a MOQ of 5, the most anodizing will cost will be $18.  The more orders for a color, the less the cost will be.  The second post will be updated with current color counts, and you may change your color by sending me a PM.

Shipping - We need to collectively cover the cost to ship these cases to us from the manufacturer, and then to you.  Large flat rate boxes are $17 for domestic and $56 for international.  With $7 extra to have the cases shipped to us, the totals are $24 for domestic and $63 for international.  We will continue to search for a cheaper alternative for international, but at 5.5 pounds and rates what they are, it may be difficult.

Is there any chance of getting the plate anodized the same color as the case (have them dipped at the same time)?

You can try to convice Boost otherwise, but I was told all plates will be anodized gold.

Does this case require a custom plate in order to work? I really don't want to desolder my Phantom if I can get one of these.

Has to be :p

Yea, I know what I chamfer is. I was wondering why that was in the break down since I firgured it would be included in the cost of the base

Top Half $60
Bottom Half $150
Chamfer $15
Screws $5

Going to chamfer all of edges as its really sharp and cut myself on the proto. Cnc guy said it was a separate process.

Custom plate and you don't need to remove the tennsy spacer while using this case is the cut out is deep enough tho some type of insulation is recommended between the pcb and bottom half.

I just have a few questions for this:

1) when is payment due? Just when we place order or later on hen GB finishes taking orders?

2) could shipping combined with others in my area save money or would it not be very efficient due to weight and size?

3) Finally, can the cases be engraved AFTER the anodising process? Or does that have to be done BEFORE?

I also want to say that this case looks fantastic. Good on you Boost for making his a reality. Looks damn fine :)

Payment is due when the buy closes.  Participants will have about a week to pay.

Boost was going to check if 2 cases could fit in a large flat rate box.  Perhaps if there are more than 2 we can pursue other shipping options.

I will defer to boost on #3

It said that future plates would be compatible. Does that mean there is a chance I could get ANS125? Or is it going to be ANS150 ONLY for now?

Thanks guys :)

Engraving is done before then anodized process.

Currently only going the ansi150 right now and will be making more plates for different layouts once I get more time.

This engraving, is it an option provided by you guys? If not, I'm guessing we can purchase the cases unanodized?

Also, the plates provided with these should allow for switch swapping without desoldering right?

How many cases can you fit in a box?
What is the weight limit of the box?

Will you entertain requests to use a custom box for shipping since that MIGHT possibly drive down the shipping cost for international?
I am guessing perhaps $20-30, but I am just pulling this number from the air.

EDIT:
6lbs Priority Mail to my country is $53 + shipping for anodizing (package less than 12")
Seems to be the same for a box 13"x5"x5". Need exact dimensions to estimate.
At least $20 savings taking into account cost for the custom box.
$65 ships as Express Mail international.

Some questions before ordering.
  • The included plate is ANSI150, right?
  • If I want another layout, say ANSI125 or ISO125.
Do I order the case now and buy those plates at a later date?
  • Is there any guarantee that those plates will be made.
I'm not that worried about me, as I can live with ANSI150.
But I'm thinking about trying to convince my friend to buy one and he will only accept ISO125.

Thank you for making this case a reality.

The included plate is designed for the Phantom, but future compatible plates will allow for other boards.

Does this mean there will be another GB for this in the future?
