You can find costar 7x wire from old winkeyless board like Chicony.
Vintage black bottom out something like 77g.

I saw Children of Bodom years ago when they were on North America tour with Dimmu Borgir.

I've got a few more LEDs in the mail.  Basically I've been getting them from Mouser.com.  Pay attention to luminosity/brightness.  "UV" (really, purple) LEDs didn't turn on at all on my Filco with stock blue LEDs, so that tells me the voltage with the stock resistor is under 3V.  Amber LEDs were fairly faint too, but I did not get any bright ones.  There are a few high-brightness amber and yellow LEDs coming in the mail to compare as well as some green LEDs.

These, for example, did not turn on at all that I could notice:
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/BIVAR/UV3TZ-390-30/?qs=%2fha2pyFadugHc2bKpudzWvcVi%2fwAQl%252be%252bm4ZU%2fcRwj6Ox%2fonSwrFCs1wmFXBxJ0susg6BMx%2fCwmZQrZMZQK8d5XkJADQr9ps
(390nm is still within visible spectrum as violet color)

All of the amber LEDs I got turned on, though some were faint, so 2-2.5V range is tested to be good on my board with stock blue LEDs.

I can't speak for the LEDs on a Filco but if you check the HD LED in the Was link in my SIG I posted the voltages for them with the 3 different brightness settings in the synapse software.

I'm thinking its even in this thread somewhere.

So I am cutting up these usb cables for a home brew style detachable cable mod and came up with a couple questions.

1.  The wire and (guessing here) mylar wrap is just for an EMF/EMI shield correct?

2.  If I want to use this it would get soldered to the shell on the connectors and to the far outside black pin on the mobo usb connector, correct?

3.  Is it required to even hook it up?

4.  What could potentially happen if i don't hook it up?

The reason i am asking is on one cable it tinned nicely and the other cable it won't tin at all.

In additions to my questions in my last post does anyone know if it is possible to take a razer naga epic apart and lube the scroll wheel?  Mine still works 100% but just noticed a couple squeeks from the wheel.

Why wouldn't it be possible? I'm sure it can be done, I've just never taken apart a mouse so I can't say for sure.

never done the naga before, but I've dismantled most of my mice before (logitech mx518, g500, g9, wow joypen) etc to clean the microswitches and apply lube to the scroll wheel. shouldn't be too hard to do same for the naga.

From what I've seen, $400 seems to be the magical number for many boards. I think the stuff that GON is doing is around $200-300 though. I seem to remember Calavera's Alps/MX PCB with a GON case going for less than $300.

You could probably pick up a 38GT + Duck Poker case for around $300, if you can find one. Maybe a 2Tu?

What MX switch has the most tactile feel? The blue and green have a separate slider while the white & clear are one piece stems. I am looking for the most tactile feel not necessarily the most noise, Thanks.

That depends on what you consider to be tactile.  Clears have the biggest bump and Ergo Clears are, IMO, by far the most tactile switches.  Some people, however, think Greens or Blues are the most tactile.  My opinion is that they just have a different kind of tactile feel.  Clears you feel the bump coming and feel the nice large bump going over the metal contact in the switch.  With Blues, you feel the switch start to get resistance, feel a bit of hesitation, then feel the slider shoot past the contact.  That hesitation with a jumping action past the contact makes some people feel that Blues and Greens are more tactile because they have a more sudden feeling in them compared to the gradual and predictable actuation of a Clear.

This is extremely subjective and not really a simple question. First off, what do you mean by "tactile" feel? Are you looking for a clicky switch or a switch with a bump in it? Second off, I can only offer my own opinion on it. Just because I feel a certain way doesn't mean you'll agree when you try the switch.

Square, water clear LEDs. I bought mine from eBay. I can't link because I'm at work. If you don't get a link, I can show you later. People also seem to like "Superbrightleds.com" but it seems kinda sketchy to me.

If you remember the phrase or something from the post in the GH60 thread, you can do a "site:Geekhack.org <phrase>" search on Google to find it. That's usually how I magic up threads.

Yes, Skype is great. There are alot of misconceptions about skype but i have a lot of group text chats going on.
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Buy the non-backlit and either add the LEDs yourself or pay someone to do it.  It's a pretty easy deal to do and it gives you more versatility when it comes to the LEDs you use.

Just a quick question pertaining to the Poker and Poker II:

I've heard of people adding lead weights behind the PCB to give it more heft. Do you guys just add
modeling weights such as: http://www.amazon.com/toys-games/dp/B0015KLJE0
between the seams of the back case piece?

Would this mod be applicable to the Poker II? Is there enough space? I know the plate it comes with already adds some weight
but I really like keyboards that are completely solid feeling when carrying it around.

It would just be heavier...wouldn't feel more solid.

When lifting something heavier makes it feel more solid imo.

Putting lead weights into my Pure case won't make it feel any more solid....
