[IC] MW Fuyu (R2) GB in progress
« on: Sun, 29 May 2022, 13:19:26 »

GB
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=118013.0

Hello,
I was asked to run Fuyu again, and well..  here it is - I'm very excited about it

For anyone confused, blossoms do appear in winter time in Japan and Fuyu translate to both Persimmons and Winter.
If you haven't caught on yet but I have a tendency to do winter themes.

There are two base kits and several child kits to supplement them.
One will be Katakana based and the other will be Latin based since a lot of people really wanted the set to be ran in Latin instead of Hiragana subbed.

The novelties are loosely based on new year traditions in Japan or home comforts.
I know you like your inspirations and I'm here to tell you it's just a pastel set but I do like the cold weather and it's nearly reaching 38°C / 100°F here where I live.

The white used is an in between WS1 and WS2 - A specific color unique to MW.
Blue and Pink are obtained through RAL

I'll obtain a sample kit sometime in July and we are hoping to start the GB in August hopefully as I have been working with MW for quite a bit.
Sit back and scroll through the "weeb"

Renders and kits were provided by ElvisXSS / Jr.Mars the runner and designer of MW-STONE Age and ePBT-Winter Breath

Excited for this! Some suggestions on kitting:

* I would suggest adding a white 2u bar to each 40s kit, 2x 2u is pretty common and matching bars are always nice.
* Optionally, a blue and pink 2u bar in each 40s kit as well to allow accented 2x 2u
* a r4 1.75u lock key in 40s kit
* 2x 3u bars in each accent color in the spacebars kit would be fantastic

GLWGB!

Looks great, always wanted this set so glad I'll have another shot to grab it and with latin alphas. Any reason for not splitting up the accent kit for latin & katakana so that people aren't paying for keys they won't be using?

With MW the cost of combining or splitting the keys is minimal difference in pricing. We're talking maybe $4-5 - So for the sake of making logistics easier and minimizing errors on manu/vendor side I kept it as is. Other than that, no particular reason.

The novelties are awesome and the addition of the latin base kit is a great idea.  Excellent work, my man!

Happy to see this set is back with MW

However personally I really dislike the idea of Katakana Sublegends instead of Hiragana
I find Hiragana much more coherent with the theme and the Japanese inspiration
Also the rounder shape work better with the colors and calm aesthetics
I'm very happy to see the Japanese Mods, but a standard Japanese keyboard would have Hiragana sub which is another reason to consider that route

Katakana imo works better for certain anime sets or a sci-fi theme like GMK Awaken

I agree with this, first thought when I saw the pics. I understand Katakana was probably used to match the JP mods but a Hiragana vs Katakana poll would be nice. Especially with the Kanji esc, Katakana looks out of place to me.

Hiragana alphas kit to go with latin mods wouldn’t be too bad, just a shame that Katakana is the go-to when this set hasn’t run in PBT before.

Well.. alright

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1G7ymDw4JgU0rgc3gxQNHReMB2uGvMUMWKC2j8uLWnvg/edit

Vote bump! :)

But if there are a lot of GMK Fuyu wanters who missed R1 and want to recreate it, maybe an alt alphas kit would be better? I can’t tell how popular the OG combo is (Hiragana + Latin mods) but switching Katakana to Hiragana in JP base would make the OG combo the most expensive too, so might be good to consider.

Hiragana base kit has been added. It's more so the exact copy of the original.

Is it really worth having a 3rd base kit?

I would like the JP Mods but Hiragana Sub, so I have to purchase 2 basekits

I would think deciding a JP base kit based on the poll results with JP Mods + Hira/kata that won the poll.
And then offering just a Kata or Hira Alphas kit separately makes more sense (unless the poll is totally one sided)

So people can choose if they want the JP mods or regular mods.

Or even just having a JP mods kit, a Kata Alphas Kit and a Hira Alphas Kit depending on pricing could be an option.

hiragana ftw. thanks for staying true to the original set.
also hiragana looks way more gentle than the harsh angles on katakana, I think it fits the theme more nicely.

The bases make sense. The thread did say to remove the Katakana and replace it with Hiragana, which would be Hiragana with JP mods… but I think the poll results ended up with overwhelming preference for Hiragana, and I think we can guess most people wanted it for the R1 configuration because weebs can’t read Kanji they liked R1.

If the R1 combo is the most popular, it doesn’t make sense doing Hiragana as a child kit. JP is always going to be less popular than Latin mods and Katakana seems less popular than Hiragana for this set, so having them as add-on kits people pay extra for is a hard sell too.

I do like the separate alphas entirely idea, but I understand not wanting to increase kits for logistics reasons. Then again, 3 base kits isn’t so different from 3 alphas kits + 2 mods kits and opens up Katakana + Latin and Hiragana + JP (and the sacrilegious Latin + JP). Could increase Katakana and JP sales, though.

Essentially this.

Having multiple kits delays shipping and you come to find out you just got a latin kit with JP modifiers then you gotta ship back and wait again.
