[IC] 60S - New design HHKB hide all screw hole. GB ON AIR!
« on: Thu, 07 December 2017, 11:05:44 »
This past year, we've been in the process of learning and experimenting in order to find the answer to one fundamental question: what design best exemplifies our brand?
Throughout this process, we have sought inspiration from as many different designs as possible. We've reviewed keyboards from Korea, the US, China, to Canada. From minimalist setups to sophisticated assembly-line creations. From small mini-boards to solid monoliths. All these styles bring something unique and beautiful to the table.
Make A Board's passion has been to learn, test, and experiment with these aesthetics in order to shape them into a unique cohesive style that we can call our own.
The 60S embodies the seamless design that's the hallmark of our vision--a simple, delicate form that completely envelopes its sharp, articulate interior.
The 60S is the intersection of the minimalist HHKB and the high-precision aluminum bodies of larger boards. But most importantly, it is the designed that we have longed for. The unique way it is assembled hides every screw hole across the entire surface of the keyboard. Remarkably simple, but with the capability to accommodate a wide range of customization.
The 60S also showcases the quality of our precision machining capabilities. Until you run your own hands over it yourself, you'll never be able to appreciate how truly satisfying it feels.

FAQ:
New team? I have not heard you ever
- Yes, we are a new team, but have been around for a long time, and recently we have just run GB R96 (layout 96) and are waiting for sotting + shipping.

Expected when GB starts?
We will only start after shipped to everyone in GB R96. Hopefully in mid December we can start.

There is only one layout for HHKB?
No, you just replace the top part for the normal layout.

Amount will be limited?
I think it only stops at 100 - 125, to make sure the QC work goes well.

What is the quality of your anode surface?
Macbook Pro equivalent.

Shipping?

We are still finalizing the price list for each region, but you can be assured of the price. We have proxies in China, so the shipping price will be very adorable

UPDATE
We will remove options nametag, nametag seems to have ruined the original design.
We will add usb port in the middle, i think it will be an optional option.

Can you confirm how tall the case is from the front? Or how steep the case angle will be?

Liking the design.  Color me interested for now. Would like to see how it'll be priced, too.

So wait, all screwholes can be hidden because it’s a tray mount case?

I really like the design of the Case, but I would honestly much prefer a top mounted design.

I get that hiding screw holes makes for a more premium look, but it’s not like you’ll see screw hole on the bottom of the case much.
Also 90% of tray mount cases don’t have visible screw holes outside since they usually are single piece cases.

Again really loving the design, would prefer it to be top mount tho

Looks great,   not sure about 10 degree angle though.   Isn't it a bit too steep and uncomfortable.

Hey! Awesome looking board. Just looking thought the renders and I have a question about the order in which you would assemble the board, and forgive me if I'm missing something obvious. How is it possible to screw in the bottom weight while the top section is screwed in, or vice versa?

I'd be super interested in a top mount option as well, I've yet to try it.

I think price should not factor here first.
I will talk about design and why can say this is a product that contains a lot of my efforts.
Look at the cross section of the keyboard.
The mid section itself is very complex.

The thinnest part is only 1.764mm. And there are 12 holes to connect with the other two pieces. Excluding plate and PCB.
With 12 screw holes, we have chosen to have the highest quality screws, but must be popular. Of course, calculating the balance and having the ability to mount the remaining two pieces must be absolutely no problem.

With the mout tray design, as I have tested, it still feels as good as the top mout 60% layout.

And as you can see, the mid part and the bottom part are connected together by an angle. That makes the keyboard more special. When assembled with a slope, the two pieces become more accurate becomes more difficult.
As you watch the video prototype, they fit perfectly together.

Very original MX HHKB design, personally I think the keycaps should be sunk a couple millimeters down though. (based on video)

Good point.  I didn't watch the video before so I had not noticed.  It would be a shame to have such a well designed case with the switches sticking up too high.  I'm pretty sure that most people expect you to choose either:

1 - floating keycap style (like corsair and pok3r) or
2 - switches placed so that the keycaps are exactly even or 1-2mm countersunk with the edge of the case

Something in between doesn't make sense.  Just looks poorly designed.
