It's worth noting that 1000 series does not necessarily come with diodes. Some do, some don't. There isn't a sure way of knowing with standard "1000"s, however there are some models that ALWAYS have them such as the G80-1191, G80-1207 and G80-1501.

I am also cautious to lump all "vintage" blacks together. I have NIB Cherry G80 keyboards from pre-1988, 1988, 1990, and many other years all with MX blacks, and even between those there is a difference in smoothness and feel.

Good review as typical of you, Chyros.

Never thought I'd see Chyros enjoy a MX Black! Hah!

Now wait for nubbinator to come tell you that you’re completely wrong and that the switches were all identical when new and it’s just the additional use put into the older board that causes the difference.

Don't have to wait for Nubbs, I can tell you the same. And I love MX Black. I can say also that Nixie blacks are just as good as any other vintage black, just the rarity makes them special and give a placebo smooth effect to some people.

Maybe you got some crap ones :p All 5 Nixdorf boards/PCBs that have passed through my hands have been noticeably smoother than vintage blacks (even lubed ones). I even did a blind test with the help of two 3000 boards and I detected the same thing, so it's no placebo. Or maybe all my vintage blacks have just been crap

Did you not just listen to the sound recording in the video above?
