Due to the age of the thread, I'm surprised you haven't backed it up by now.
I'm amazed people can go this long without a Windows reload period.

I know it happens, I'm just shocked at how many manage it, I certainly never could.

Back in the XP, 98SE and older days, probably every 2.5 to 3 years I do a routine reinstallation of Windows. From Windows 7 onwards, I only do OS reinstallation on certain occasions, such as getting a new laptop and wiping off OEM gunk, handing down an somewhat old computer to someone, someone getting malware on their system, or major OS version transition like 7->10. At the moment, my clean Win10 installs, back in 2015 for my desktop and 2017 for my laptop, are still running fine.

I have a couple external drives with my files backed up, but I just hadn't updated it in a while (about a year and a half, I know, I know). I should probably figure out some automated cloud/offsite backup solution, but I'm inherently distrustful of that sort of thing (for reliability and security), and I'm too lazy to figure it out.

I haven't made a C drive image in even longer, which I should probably do as well.
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

I know this weekend I plan on doing a fresh wipe and w10 install, picked up a new Samsung 970 Evo+ 1TB to swap with my 960 EVO 500GB.  It still amazes me how low SSD's have dropped in price - with what I paid for my 960 back when it launched I could have bought 2 1TB 970's lol, hell back when I got my 840 Pro 128's I could have bought a few 970+'s  :)) .  Can't wait for the day I can swap to 4TB+ SSD's for the right price - still out of the budget for now.

Samsung has a new chip coming that will drop prices again, almost in half.

I'm not sure when it will drop but it should put the final nail in spinners for anything other than servers and NAS, which are also nearing end of their viable life. Blah Blah new bigger drives... Even if you released a petabyte spinner it won't help, the problem isn't capacity it's reliability and speed. Even for a home NAS, yeah it sounds great having 30Tb but ever have to restore 3Tb? Not fun, now imagine 30Tb or even 90.

I plan on sticking with SSD's  wherever I can afford to make it work.  I hate backing up to spinning media whenever I have to.  I can say the 970 Evo + runs alot hotter compared to the 960 EVO I upgraded from, I know Samsung changed the controller out on the + version compared to the standard EVO's. Part of me has now been debating on moving to a WD SN750 1TB - cost w/ the heatsink is about the same compared to the 970 EVO+ 1TB, just not comfortable about the temps and seeing Samsung magician constantly state it's "Hot" and seems to be a issue ( and I know I have airflow in my case w/ 6 Corsair ML120 Pro's - problem is that the case is a InWin 303 so the path isn't optimal).
But I have enjoyed having a fresh install of w10 again since I have yet to fully re-install some of the apps I had on the last install (mainly the hoard of game launchers and other apps).  Trying to do a run to see what I truly use and refrain from installing things for a short term use etc (using the if you don't use it but once or twice we can live w/out it).
