this is a really cool idea and it's great to see how much effort you put into it!

a personal opinion - i think the set as a whole would look a lot tighter and cleaner if you make the legends a little smaller. the mod text is way bigger than any mod text ever and kind of takes away from the alphas (and the size differences are too obvious, it should be very minimally different), and the alpha symbols are cool but slightly tooooo big so it looks a bit crowded. however this is just what i think, if you're happy with what you have then it's a non-issue :)

kitting feedback - i find it a bit strange and excessive that there are novelties in the base kit, yet there's a separate novelties set on top of it. if you want to provide a latin alphas option for people who want the colour scheme/font without the symbols completely, the base kit should have latin ESC as well.

Once I saw PBT Transmutation I thought it had to do with FMA Brotherhood, was gonna come in here and insta type reserved. But I clicked into a pleasant surprise. Hey wow thank you for this feedback, you pretty much honed in on my exact concerns for this set. I'm currently working on some big changes with it which should address the size of the alphas and then also give some other options for people who were looking to go 100% symbols on their entire keyboard. Thanks for pointing out the lack of an ESC key as well, that's something I completely overlooked!

Ahh yeah I think at this point everyone kinda hates the size of the font which I'm going to address quite soon and make a bit smaller.
But thanks a ton for your comment, it actually makes me confident in this set. I want to bring something entirely different to the table after seeing so many sets that feel the same. Lets not be timid about keyboards  ;D

Things I've been working on today (6/5/2021) is making symbolic modifiers, redoing the text (makin it smaller), remaking kitting, and then added the little mascot of this set to a key...because why not?! Some people add their signature, but for this set  I'm adding his!


On the other side of production, still waiting on samples and estimates on price!  :thumb:

I made SO MANY CHANGES to this set! I'll do a full update post to this IC when I get some nice renders done. Also my vendor (KONO) may ask for additional changes, but I've handed it all off to them and we'll see what the feedback brings! I changed the font for the Latin Alphas (I really love the new font, it fits so much better and is still gothic yet not "harry potter" gothic). I changed the size (and standardized) all of all the text sizing and also removed it from the core set to it's own "Latin Modifier" kit. But also kitted it in a way that you can get a Latin keycap only set instead of symbolic set if that strikes you or even mix-and-match if you want.
I also upped the quirkyness and magicalness and gothicness of the words on the Latin alphas (you'll see).



Also removed the Numpad because I was thinking it would end up being too expensive in the base set. But also wanted to give people the option to go either numerical or the 'natural numbers' symbols route. Also changed the F-row keys to Phases of the moon which made sense to me numerically.

Thanks to anyone who is following this set and a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who gave me the valuable feedback on the set. I tried to follow as much of the feedback as I could. Sometimes opposing feedback clashed a little bit, but it was always helpful!  ;D Everyone in the here really does rock.

Those mods. Just. Look at them. They match. They are just branches, yet somehow, they make sense. They pair perfectly where they need to (home/end, pgUp/pgDn).

The moon phase function keys are a great change.

I am also excited about a symbol numpad, I was worried about the standard digits in the original base kit you had, but am now looking forward to getting the symbols on the numpad as well.
So on the topic of the number keys, I’m not necessarily feeling the legends you have. I’ve tried to like them, but they don’t seem ‘balanced’ to me. 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are one style, and 6, 7, 8, 9 are another. 6 + 4 seems strange.
Perhaps you could consider 3 + 3 + 3 + 1? (1,2,3) + (4,5,6) + (7, 8, 9) + (0)
If you did that, it would look great on the numpad, and still quite ok on the number row.

Ah yeah I was going back and forth on what the look of the numbers should be for quite some time and found this numbering system and I like it because it matches the look of a lot of Alchemical symbols- it's the way it is because it replicates geometry found in nature (hence why it's called natures numbers).

Even though it's basically science/math based it seemed like a lot of similar thinking to the witchcraft and alchemy.

Also yeah I agree about having the set be accessible to people who like the symbols or people who just want the dang regular letters on their boards! So there will be essentially 2 base kits, but I broke up the latin kit into 2 sets so that if you wanted to switch out latin modifiers but have symbols or have latin alphas but symbolic modifiers it should be possible without buying 2 complete base kits.
So yeah I think this will work?

Thats a great call, will definitely look into grabbing one  for this set. I also dig the Dark Blue Alphas and Red Novelties in the 2nd post, really cool!

Huge update on this set!

This was a lot of rework by me over the past few months. I touched almost everything in the set, redid the words on the modifiers, redid the fonts, created a symbolic modifier set based on tree branches (for that spooky VVitch vibe), added symbols to the numpad and much more. Also made another spooky deskmat to add to the set!

Also on the logistic side my vendor found a possible manufacturer and ordered samples! (now we wait some more)

Thanks to everyone who has shown interest in this set so far, hopefully this means with your posts, that this thing is going to get made (and actually if all goes well, going into GB quite soon!)


Also should I make a discord for this project? Would there be enough interest for something like that?!   :cool:

Yeah, update!
Set looks stunning, but for me it's weird to have numpad with numbers in a core set with symbols.
Maybe it's just me, but maybe it's better to move them into some latin-based set (alphas or modes)?
Other than that - I love those fangs to use for shifts in novelties, any chances to get them (like for standard TKL) in 2.75 and 2.25?)

Big fan of these caps. I want to build my first keyboard and I'm thinking of using these if they get into group buy. I would prefer alphas being the standard personally and noticed you said you may do that if enough people said it so I thought I'd put my two cents in.

Sorry for the wait on this set with no updates as to when the GB will occur. Although this is for the best since we're ordering a full set of keyset samples so that the set will be as good as it can be! I expect this will be a lot of waiting then suddenly it'll be GO TIME.
I kinda hope it happens this Halloween! (which Kono is in agreement would be a perfect GB timeframe) ;D

Some small updates to the main post about where the prototyping stands on this project (basically need a 2nd round made)

Also wanted to mention that one of my favorite artisan makers Archetype is on board for a collab! (actually they've been on board since early summer but I contacted them kind of too early and now I keep delaying! Sorry Archetype! But also I can't wait to see what one of these octo's look like in Transmutation colors!

Those alphas are way too good to be a once-off, but personally I think centered legends look better on rounded profiles. Might give you some freedom to run a mono grey version too, which would make it easier to pair with more boards. Just my two cents.

OMG I don't need another 60% but now I kinda need that 60%  :eek: I'm gonna put it on the green polygon65.... hopefully.... eventually!


But yeah I don't want to plan ahead as far as other profiles JUUUUUST yet since I'm scared that will jinx it and I already have so many "cursed" symbols on here already  ;D
But early on I was also tossing around the idea of a "Hot-topic" colorway with this which would be in the Red/Black/white of course!

Yeah there's going to be a bit of differences I guess because of the way that PBT is made, it seems to be a pretty hard thing to dial in. But that being said, that picture in particular was also the first round of samples... more to come!  (which is why this hasn't gone to GB yet, KONO wants to be careful and not run it without knowing it's possible first)!

Good news! Things are moving! We actually got a good look at the colors and they all look pretty dang close, as you can see from the pictures the match is pretty close to the pantone chip, For some reason it's photographing kind of poorly!
So February may still be when the OC will happen, at least that's what I'm hoping for!

This weekend I'm going to go in and fine tune every single key and make sure everything is perfectly aligned. Some of the symbols are a tiny bit too close to the top of the key (as pictured below).
So I think things are looking good and actually moving forward towards a GB!

Oh my word I love this. instant must buy for me. I hate how much I like both the symbol mods and text mods. God damn this is going to be an expensive buy but I think its going to be my eventual beige build because that is going to look great.

This set is one where Kono and I have been really working our socks off to get it to be affordable. Because of the symbols involved with every key it was a set that a lot of manu's didn't want to touch, but after many iterations and samples we finally have something that is both pretty good quality and really good price! GB this tuesday!!  ;D

Yep there should be regional vendors! Sorry I don't have the details on that quite yet. But I'll be putting it in the GB post for sure!
