I'd love to see a color sample of the crimson red on aluminum. The color swatch looks kinda meh.

is a sample of colors possible before the GB starts?

There won't be color samples, please refer to the Pantone's.

If you're disappointed with what's available, you could always ask for unfinished and finish it yourself :)

Really tempted to try and snag one of those..! :)

Is there an special advantage to a partial plate? Or does it just give a different feeling / typing experience?

I thought I read something about cerakote as a finish option, did you toss this idea or do I mix something up?

It means you get to use no plate on the alphas keys. So it's PCB mounted instead of plate mounted, which considerably changes the feeling. It's preference -- I'd give it a try though.

I won't be providing that service any more, but you're welcome to get an unfinished case and do it yourself.

Afaik you will need the specific pcb, as others won’t fit.

For Fixed on 280 you'll need that, yes.

Really tempted to try and snag one of those..! :)

Is there an special advantage to a partial plate? Or does it just give a different feeling / typing experience?

It means you get to use no plate on the alphas keys. So it's PCB mounted instead of plate mounted, which considerably changes the feeling. It's preference -- I'd give it a try though.

To add to this, it gives (ime) some added springy feedback to the keypresses -- a bit more tactile feedback and you can feel keypresses made on one side of the board with your hand on the other side of the board. For tactile switches I think this enhances the feedback of each keypress and makes the whole thing feel more lively. For linears it makes bottoming out far less harsh without being mushy, it retains the crisp feeling of linears, however each press is less isolated and "pure". With light linears (62g or less) and a poly or partial poly plate on linears bottoming out feels almost like not bottoming out on something with heavy tactility like Clears or buckling spring.

The sound is also much higher pitched, especially with ABS caps.

Interesting. I really like the deep bassy sounds of vint blacks though I'm not really sure what kind of plate would contribute to that kind of sound. Would brass give it a deeper sound or is that higher pitched as well? At any rate, I'll probably pick up a few extra plates and pcbs granted it's an option.

I'd imagine that polycarbonate plates maintain a deeper, lower pitched sound but people with more experience can hopefully answer this for you.

In my experience carbon fiber gives the most bassy "thock", thin poly is very clicky. Thick 5mm poly might be deeper? I think that might be your best bet, but I think it also depends a bit on the cavity under the plate in the case and the case material? Tough to get a deep thock with a thick alu and brass case I'd think.

Alu would be my second choice, brass reduces sound ime.

That board / those pics have been a personal favourite of mine for a long while.. we have good taste ;)

The proto’s turned out spectacularly, the reduced height at the front was a genius idea.

My mannn, 65 for the poly partial :’(  (I know you had issues pricing these or even getting enough interest, but I’m glad they’re an option!)

can you buy 220 without buying 280?

Also just so it's noted/clarified:

If demand for 220 exceeds slots available, I will make the normal one 220 (& make it unlimited/limited to 100), and there will be a few 220 S available.

For now, the only difference is numbering, but the weight may change on 220 S to separate it.

Also thanks for all the interest, means a lot :-*

Another dumb question. Do the PCBs have diodes/controller etc already?

Yep. Absolutely. Only thing you'll need to solder is switches (and in switch LEDs if you desire).

Can anyone comment on what 5mm brass and 5mm polycarbonate feels like?

Nobody knows!  I think Xondat said he will have some samples he will try out somewhat soon though.

Yes. They're coming from a different factory, should be here Monday :p
