Will the whole run have to be the same color? If so, black would probably be acceptable to the widest number of people. If we have a choice of colors, does a whole set have to be the same color, or could a few keys be different? (e.g. red Esc, blue WASD, etc.)
Is there some reference materials we could look at for colors/fonts?
With regard to key profile... Does that mean the top of the keys would be lower, or the bottom would be higher or something in between?
We should have this for the main keys and real black for the modifiers. That would be awesome.

I'm interested in a set, but much more if we could gather more than 25 or 50 people. I'm quite patient for matters like these. On that note, would you also post this project on say, overclock.net ?
Anyhow, following are my selfish preferences:
+1 for two-toned dark grey and darker grey (ok, black may be fine, here); preferably dark grey for all keys that normally generate a character glyph when typing up a post on geekhack in English, and darker grey for remaining keys.
Consider me very picky for being against alternating the shade based on F key location (I never understood why you'd color the quads like so). Just keep all of F1 to F12 the same shade.
Also, if aGEEK
HACK
key is decided, please request a manual correction for the kerning so that both sides line up visually.
I am interested in the green set (the cheapest option) or the light grey+ grey set, either one will do. Personally, I like the huge centered font since we can hardly get those nowadays.I think they're the same set, just different lighting. Perhaps we can get some clarification.
Interested in one, maybe two.Do you know how many extra keys we would need to add and what they would be?
If you're going to do this you may consider doing a couple international keys and maybe some color options. The cost of additional keys is less per key and you might be able to get a lot more people interested in sets.
I'm sure people would like a few colored keys (colored ESC, for instance).
Going with plain black would be a little boring, though.
I agreeI concur, you'll probably be able to get black from Majestouch eventually anyway.
Glad to finally see this going. I will probably jump on the wagon, although shipping and customs will make it a rather nasty experience. :) Maybe keyboardco from UK would want to stock some?I will ask about thickness, but I think that would require retooling.
I like the typewriter font, reminds me of some very old computers. As to colours, probably I'm the only one who prefers light keys. Special coloured keys like WASD should be optional so everyone puts only those which he/she likes. Me, I'd just go with all the keys in some light colour and boring, non-futuristic legends. Non-OS specific meta keys, too.
Changing the font size won't be cheap, since requires new molds.
@WhiteRice: have you asked SP whether they provide different keycap thickness? Also, options for plastic type?
I am pretty sure thickness will require retooling and we won't be able to afford that.
It seems that no company is able to make thick keys anymore besides Hooleon in the UK, but they are unable to make double shots.
Also for those requesting language specific keys.. keep in mind that we will have to order at least 50 of each, since that is the minimum order requirement at signature plastics for single keys.
I find it very unlikely that we will find 50 people who are okay with an additional short shift or ISO Enter key, when we already have trouble finding 25 people to even jump in on the set deal as is.
muchadoaboutnothing is correct.
I'm not looking to make money, but I'm not looking to lose any either! I've realized that I will probably have to front a certain amount, but I expect at least 75% of orders to be placed and paid before I give signature the go ahead.
I started doing some simple estimations on freight shipping from Signature to me.
For 50 sets of keys it will possibly be $200 dollars, but split among 50 orders is $4.
Then ~$5 domestic US shipping via USPS priority. ~$12 for international.
If anyone lives in or near Washington and would be interested in helping with distribution please let me know. Perhaps we can save some money on freight. I live in New Jersey so all my estimations are based on shipping across the country.
There are a lot of fixed costs with setting up the production run, so the cost of a few additional keys shouldn't be that much, In fact, the volume may make such a run cheaper in the end (if you can sell double the sets for a few more keys).

I don't mind getting some extra international keys; I'm sure I'll find a use for them? Maybe?I haven't heard back from Signature about a price difference for font sizing/positioning. I have a feeling that there won't be one. In that case it's what ever the membership can agree on.
As for the large, centered legends, I thought about it for a while yesterday, and... didn't come to any conclusion. It's a tossup for me; I'd like to see what the price difference is.
It would seem that the majority like the dolch color scheme. Gray w/ Dark Gray Modifiers.
Are there any huge objections to this?
So, everyone is buying 104 standard US ANSI keys + (keys that the majority decided to order)?Yes, I am hoping that we can use those customs keys for something fun like a geekhack key of colored G & H keys.
OK, when I saw this thread I had to sign up for this. I want to know what is so good about having double shot keys? It's all your guys fault for making me buy my cherry blue Filco keyboard! :D I'm going to get a cherry brown Filco for my house now. Wouldn't mind having a set of blue keys with white letters. Can that be done? I'll get two sets of those!
I'm interested in one set @$57.49 and two set @$40.39
But I live in Singapore. What will the shipping to Singapore cost?
I would prefer "Ctrl" to be label Ctrl instead of Control
Welcome to Geekhack. Check out the "All About Keys" wiki. It goes in-depth into the different keys, plastics, printing, etc.
i got a question on the spacebar, is that the standard size for all cherry spacebars including the stabilizers and offcenter to the right?
So I did some thinking about custom key ideas.
Alt Orange G & H
Orange GeekHack Key
Alt Orange WASD
Alt Conrol/Capslock
Alt OS Key(meta)
These don't include international or keys to fit other keyboards. I'm just brainstorming.
I'd probably get one set if it was G80-3000 compatible (cover all the keys), and personally, I'd prefer all function keys one colour.I think that it's a bad photo. Do you know which keys differ on the G80-3000 from the filco? Is it the front row and left shift?
Aside: the set shown, did they do ] over 9, or is it just a bad photo?
I think that it's a bad photo. Do you know which keys differ on the G80-3000 from the filco? Is it the front row and left shift?
G80-3000 are compatible to Filcos including the front row. Keys not compatible are the spacebar and capslock. The spacebar could be done while still keeping it Filco compatible.
Is there actually anyone who wants Windows logo keys? Cause if everyone can agree on some OS-agnostic icon for those keys, they won't need to be "alternate" keys, we just wouldn't need Windows ones at all. What about the context menu key?

Well, Linux people might want Tux, Windows people might want a Windows logo, Mac people might want a propeller or apple, dual-booters might want a diamond like HHKBs or Sun keyboard, but maybe everybody could get along with the Jolly Roger.
Err... which Jolly Roger?
One piece?
Is there actually anyone who wants Windows logo keys? Cause if everyone can agree on some OS-agnostic icon for those keys, they won't need to be "alternate" keys
This is a good point. I can't find the thread that went on and on about this topic, but I remember thinking that a simple diamond was the best idea:
◈ ◆ ◊ ◊
I'd actually like to see three flavours of the capslock key.
Filco non-stepped
Cherry style stepped
Cherry style, filco mount compatible.
I suspect some people would prefer the stepped key; I certainly do. It's one of the two big peeves I had with my Solidtek 6600 (the other: small backspace)
curious, whats with the specifics of the caps lock keys? no one uses them right?

Your name will be stricken from the list and our hearts!
jk jk, no problem. I plan on ordering when we hit 40 to cover those who want doubles and a few for late comers. So you can always change your mind.
I updated the main post, please let me know if any of the information is incorrect. I will hopefully hear back from signature this week.
That made me think about something, though: how much would it cost to "separate" full sets in two ?
The idea would be to have the keys that are common in just about every ANSI and ISO set (ESC, F keys, modifiers, numpad and so on) in one part, and the rest, which is region-specific (maybe including enter key), in another part.
Pricing for these parts if ordered in addition to the complete 104 keyset is as follows:
- 50 sets of WASDGH in orange (without the arrows printed on the front) 6 Key set - $4.80 / set
- 50 diamond keys - 1.25 size - $0.91 / each
- 1.75 size key labeled 'Control' - $1.10 / each
- 50 'Geek Hack' Keycaps - $0.80 / each
I heard back from Signature and I have lots of Good news.
Freight to NJ will only be $25, cheaper if we can get someone closer. Looks like I way over shot on my initial estimate. :D
They want $5.75 per set to "collate" it. I figure that we will not opt for this option and I'll just bite the bullet.
Custom Key Option Pricing:
Good stuff.Noted, and I will be asking them if we can get a further discount for that key. I also asked if they have any other shapes available.
You should consider though that we aim for a total of 50 sets, we will need 100 diamond keys, not 50. Since most keyboards (and all Costar boards) come with 2 windows keys, not one.
They want $5.75 per set to "collate" it. I figure that we will not opt for this option and I'll just bite the bullet.
It means to sort them into distinct sets instead of having 50 sets of keys mixed together.
So they'd just do a bag of A keys, a bag of enter keys, a bag of caps lock keys, etc. if we didn't opt for that, correct?Correct, each unique key has a separate bag. I'm half Chinese so assembly line is in my blood.
Or are they sadists who would dump it into one gigantic bag, forcing you to sort every single key?
I just thought of a great prank, send everyone a random scoop of keys and have them seek each other out...
:3
Correct, each unique key has a separate bag. I'm half Chinese so assembly line is in my blood.
I was going to invite any local members to my house to help out, get some pizza, beer and sort keys...
Then the thought of being turned into someone's lampshade made me decide against it.
Great news. Do those pricings mean that we will have the option to purchase any of the choices? (i.e. geekhack key, wasdgh, and large control)Yes, the option prices are dependent on the base 104 US ANSI set, not on each other.

I have a question. will these work on the tenkeyless boards? I assume they would, you will just have the extra 10 keys.Yes, I and several others are planning on doing the same thing.
Yes, the layout of tenkeyless is identical except for the part that's missing.I asked for alternate shapes, I agree I would prefer a star or something...
Is everybody really happy with diamonds for the meta keys? Seems kinda boring considering how cool the set is going to be.
I asked for alternate shapes, I agree I would prefer a star or something...
Would you be able to order some keycap pullers like this as an option? I suppose I could buy a puller from EliteKeyboards, but it would be nice to have this included with shipping. I dont think it would be too much, and they shouldnt have to be custom made...I am looking into bitmap :)Show Image(http://keycapsdirect.com/images/faq/keycap-puller.jpg)
The thing that's good about the diamond is that it's a pretty agreeable shape for all GHers. I think a star would look a little... Out of place.
I say skip orange WASD keys myself but others seem to really like the idea.
Really? I thought they could do custom logos and stuff. :-(Costs more cause they have to retool.
Costs more cause they have to retool.
Did you guys want the front of the WASD cluster to be pad printed with arrows? If so this would cost an additional $3.66 per set. I'm thinking no, but I like your input.
No need imo.Is the G80 one stepped or is the stem off center?
Though personally I wish we would ditch the CTRL Capslock key and get a G80 compatible one instead. How many people actually want the Ctrl one?
Is the G80 one stepped or is the stem off center?
It all depends if they can do any interesting shapes. Diamond is not a bad choice though.
I may cut the g&h keys
EDIT: Diamond is the only shape they have
I'm hesitant to cut the WASD keys, they seem popular in the poll. Each extra character key is $0.80. If we cut G&H and just got WASD it would be $3.60.
Don't worry the Long Control key isn't going anywhere. If anything we would get an alt stepped caplock.
The prices and discounts we have are dependent on the 50, 104 US ANSI Base set, however any additional keys we get have to be ordered in sets of 50.
Key options(Ranked by poll)
Geekhack Key
Diamond Meta Key
WASD
Long Control
G&H
International
Keys Other Keyboards
Eveyone kinda of forgot about the colored esc key because I left it off the poll. Is anyone still interested? Remember you can get a red one direct from signature.
G&H are cut for the time being. The rest remain to be seen.
I sort of wish we could do something novel, that the KBDmania guys can say 'wish we had it'- what would a single new glyph tooled cost, amortized across 50 sets? If new tooling is $20, it would mean to get something not-a-diamond for the meta key would really be just 40 cents per order more.
I looked at your avatar, and does anyone else think a Team Dai-Gurren logo for a meta key would kick ass?
A diamond is practical, but paying 50 bucks to replace keys that work fine is not. Might as well go all-out.
Was there any word on the legend types available and/or their pricing?
Sorry, I meant the legends on the QWERTY keys. Do they have the smaller, off-center ("modern") legends available, and is there a cost difference? There is no cost difference for smaller and off-centered legends, but it would have to be applied across the whole batch.
I looked at your avatar, and does anyone else think a Team Dai-Gurren logo for a meta key would kick ass?
G80 one is stepped and the stem is offcenter. If we had to get one or the other which would you recommend?
Filco is flat and stem is centered.
If we had to get one or the other which would you recommend?
Custom legends for double shot keys are $15 or $20 at Signature Plastics for the tooling. I ordered and distributed the original first batch of the geekhack key earlier this year.sixty to the rescue. I told you installing that signal was a good idea.
Double shot is actually the cheapest option signature plastic offers. As you see pad printing is more expensive and sublimation dye is out of the question.
how much would it cost to \"separate\" full sets in two ?
The idea would be to have the keys that are common in just about every ANSI and ISO set (ESC, F keys, modifiers, numpad and so on) in one part, and the rest, which is region-specific (maybe including enter key), in another part.
That way it might be easier for people needing non-US sets to prepare some order for them, without the need to ask for a full set.
Also, that would mean the non-region-specific part can be bought cheaper as the volume will be higher.
Thoughts (at least on that separating part) ?
As expected, the part I asked comments about didn\'t get any... tsk tsk.
Whether or not localized layouts are \"possible\", the question is still current.
Since 90% of the users interested in this plan on using it for the Filcos, we would have to go with the center stem flat key for the default set of course. I just think that an additional stepped off-center stem capslock key would be great since it instantly makes the entire set of keycaps compatible with the whole range of G80 boards.

How many people should be interested in a particular option before we go for it as a group? As it stands, only the OS key has an approval rating above 50%. I did vote for wasd keys, but it probably isnt fair for the majority to have to get something only the minority is interested in.
I would be interested in a set...only if it has international keys i.e. large enter key and small shift key.I need details on these keys, a picture even would be good.
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anyone* reply indicating that they loved Windows logo'ed meta keys.Windows keys are part of the set, so the diamond will be in addition too.
So if we were to only get the diamond keys that would reduce the cost, right?
* - "Anyone" in this context meaning "Anyone who is actually participating in the order"
Have we decided about the size/placement of the font yet?The majority likes the large centered legends.

Really appreciate all the work you are putting into this WhiteRice and I was interested but I was really looking for "boring" Helvetia in the standard keyboard placement (upper left); all black keys. Might be my monitor, but the grey keys have a greenish tinge. The different keys/fonts also give the keyboard a cobbled together look...
I'll take a pass and wait for the Majestouch double shots.
Think they'll work with a Rosewill RK-9000?
I wouldn't mind paying extra for the J-Enter as long as it was reasonable. Same for some blanks if they're not part of the order. Would the blanks be in the green-gray color or the dark-gray, or one of each?

I went through the thread there are around six people who want J shaped enter and some blanks.
J shaped enter are $2.39 / each
blanks will probably be $0.60 / each
Sorry guys but I don't think there is enough demand to justify the cost for the whole order.
I could ask signature for a smaller run of like 10 sets J-enters w/ two blank caps. The cost will be higher. You would have to pay extra for these set in addition to the base set.
Diamond's fine. Was this key going to be double shot or pad printed?
I'm up for getting ISO enter key and blanks in regular order, could use the enter key at some point in the future.
But yeah, no win key/logos please, it offends :) Diamond is fine.
wow, we reached 50 sets now, but...... why there are 53 voters -.-'''
I voted 'other' for topre replacement keycaps. =)
Oh dear, are they already all sold? I registered just to post here and say I was interested. :(Worry not! I will order more than 50 if needed! It all depends on how many people actually pay.
If it's possible to extend the order, I want the control key to replace caps lock and the diamond keys as well. And a GeekHack key, why not? :)
Worry not! I will order more than 50 if needed! It all depends on how many people actually pay.
If I order 10 J-shaped enter keys they are $8.49 each...
Blanks are $0.21 each.
So the international "booster pack" would be $8.91.
ps: good work btw ... i really appreciate your efforts and thanks for the whole organization stuff :)
Yea, I worked with Melissa from their sales team. She was really cooperative and patient.
No time estimate yet, but I will be asking shortly.

You do accept a combination of obsolete foreign banknotes and bits of string, right?
Hi WhiteRice,
Put me up for 2 sets please.
I assume the set include all the options, right?
I will also like 2 set of International Booster Packs.
I am from Singapore btw, let me know the final amount I need to pay you.
Thanks!
Hi qlojolp,I just checked and yes, that is good. I will for shipping first class instead of priority then. Is that ok?
I'm from Singapore too, I'm gathering up people @ vr-forums to save on the shipping... currently have 3 sets...
@WhiteRice, 3 set for shipping = 14 + 2 ???
I'd like to be in on this order for 1x set! and I'd like a full set of all the options, please :) Prices are very reasonable.
Think they'll work with a Rosewill RK-9000?
EDIT: To clarify:
KEY COLOR: Black or Dark Grey (As per the OP)
LEGEND COLOR: White or Red (OP configuration is fine)
FONT: Default as per the OP. Looks sexy like an old typewriter.
TO FIT: Rosewill RK-9000 (which should be identical to a Filco)
OPTIONS DESIRED: WASD Orange (with arrows too, ideally), CTRL, CAPS, Geek Hack
OPTIONS NOT DESIRED: J-Enter, Tiny [ \ | ], Tiny [<-Backspace], Diamond aka Meta, Apple Keys
With that said I'd be happy to have a full set of all the optional keys, and would pay to have them made. If the only way to get what I want is to get all of what everyone wants, then so be it.
Yes, should be 100% compatible.

I can get a filco zero tenkeyless for ё40
You're probably going to have to buy one from another member. There was an aspect to the logic in the Filco Zeros that was unacceptable to many people, so the product was discontinued. According to Diatec, they had to implement a slower scan rate to properly debounce the Fukka switches; therefore, if you type very quickly, you could run into some transposition errors. Again, this would only occur if you could something like 150WPM, or on short bursts of typing like "the" for a lot of people. The first person to notice it couldn't type the work "note" without it sending "ntoe." YMMV, though.
Also, the Filco Zero Tenkeyless was discontinued (and is listed as such by Elitekeyboards' item page (http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=filco_keyboards,majestouch_87key&pid=fkbn87zeb)). It's a clearance item. That's not to say it may not be a decent deal, but it's hardly a regular price.
Actually to be fair the Filco Zero was only cleared from EliteKeyboards, probably due to a certain member and their posts on this board. Other retailers still carry it. The XM (older model, non Fukkas) version also is not faulty at all and has no controller issues.
I could possibly give my set to a late-comer if he wants it that bad ... eventually.
Email went out, sorry if you missed the boat. Depending on the how things go you maybe able to get a set from someone else or me.
I am hoping to be able to process all the shipping online. I have a good scale, and someone was kind enough to provide a good guide on customs forms. I will do my best to get everything done quickly, but I will probably need a weekend to sort everything out once the keycaps arrive.
I will keep everyone updated :)

I doubt it'll work when it gets overseas. There are a couple of german buyers for instance.
Might be worth a shot though. Just learn some German/whatever language necessary and write it on the box. Ol' Uncle WhtieRice sending everyone presents!

It's a bit of a gamble, although shipments to the UK from the Fast East often get through untaxed when marked with "gift" whereas the same is much less likely to work when shipped from the US.
My last name is Wang, Ol' Uncle Wang.
Put "Alles Gute zum Geburtstag du Rotznase - Onkel Wang" on the German boxes!

I'm pretty sure I'm at the bottom of his custom key list.
So has anyone translated the reviews of these gray doubleshots at KBDMania.net?
I hear a lot of comparisons to Dogs and Kimchee? Should I be worried? My mom is a little prejudiced about Koreans. She thinks Kimchee smells like wet baby diapers.
But does the set come with windows key for those that want it ?
What, uncle Wang still posts here?!

Regarding the spacebar.. if our version only is made to fit on a Filco, it will not fit on a Cherry board such as the G80-3000/1000/1800 series, since those have the stems in a different position. Chance is that the guys from OTD already thought of this and designed the spacebar to work on both boards. So if SP uses the same molds for our order that they used for their order, it might fit. We will have to wait and see.

Does anyone know of any scripts or programs that will pull from a spreadsheet and fill in the forms automatically?
Before I write one it would be nice if there was already something out there that could save me some time.
Otherwise I have like 2-3 weeks to write it and test it. Yea once I get that setup it should be a breeze to get the forms done. "Collating" and packing will probably take more time.

Ah thanks, right idea. I'm going to write something up that will have to work with the web forms and some other input info.
It's ok, it's pretty simple actually.
That was the part I thought might work for you since iMacros states it can import & export data using CSV files. I have Autofill Forms which works for my personal info but can't import data so far as I know. Good luck...That's what I get for not reading thoroughly :3
That's what I get for not reading thoroughly :3
I'll have to take a closer look. Thanks TF
It's not real obvious, or at least it wasn't to me, but here (http://forum.iopus.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5663) is an example of tweaking a script, which could be recorded, to read a csv data file.

Actually, now that I look again, I lied. That is an example of how to read a csv file with javascript you wrote. If you record it, the syntax for reading the csv that you'll want to use is like that in the example script "Demo-Loop-Csv-2-Web.iim", as described in the iMacros WIKI Form Filling - Data Input - Input from Comma Separated Data (CSV) File (http://wiki.imacros.net/Form_Filling#Input_from_Comma_Separated_Data_.28CSV.29_File) section. So just as a test to show it works, I recorded a script to log into geekhack and modified it to read from a csv file as described in the iMacros WIKI Form Filling - Data Input - Input from Comma Separated Data (CSV) File (http://wiki.imacros.net/Form_Filling#Input_from_Comma_Separated_Data_.28CSV.29_File). I created a csv file named GeekhackIdPw.csv with only one line containing only two fields, my geekhack id and password. The file was saved in the iMacros Datasources directory so I didn't need to include a path to the file. Here is the code, works fine:

Would you like me to notify you if a spare set becomes available?
Have any luck scripting this, either by my suggestion or other?
I'm glad you asked the question since now I have iMacros loaded and can use it if needed. I already had a form fill program but this is potentially more powerful, although would take more work as well.
Looks like you could ever use it for testing purposes, almost like a poor mans mercury load runner (I know HP owns it now but not when I was using it in anger).
I have yet to take a deeper look, I will spend some time with it on the weekend.
Muchado is the babe in the middle.
It'd be nice if we could get Signature to provide a pic or two of how our doubleshots are made (we know the process, but real life photos of it happening would be nice), even more awesome would be a video. It'd be geek porn.
I'm OK with this.

Things are progressing well! Your order is scheduled to ship on November 2nd and I don't see any issues making this ship date.
Thanks for checking in!
Signature Plastics LLC
.
Ship to me is Nov. 2nd. Is I will do my best to send them out asap. Possibly before Nov. 15.
Do the international ones first, so we do not get into the postal Christmas craze. No, actually I'm just impatient.
I second this idea.
No do the US first so we can all review it(and make the international guys salivate even more~!!!)
*buy me a topre 86u
WE want them first!
We paid more for the shipping, so we have a right to get them before you domestic shipping cheapskates!
I think I'm going to send you a couple of keys every month... to keep things suspenseful...
Weren't we talking about keyboards?
I think people that haven't paid should be lynched and put on MW's ignore list.
In that order?
First we must set Rantenki's avatar dog on them first :X
Not so vicious that girl. More likely to beg for treats or cower under the computer desk.
Also, she HATES the noise of the Model M.
How are the customs forms and shipping labels going, WhiteRice?Looking good. I may have to pm some people about foreign addressing as I am not familiar with some of them.
Ok Gang! Signature says that everything is on schedule for shipment for tomorrow!
Yeah well, at least it's their own region they destabilize ..
It seems that Americans don't mind travelling thousands of miles to destabilize somebody else's region, preferably killing all the interesting people they meet on their way and installing some pocket-Mussolini dictator who will sell the Oil to you at a price you set yourselves .
How the Hell they find the places is a mystery to all us fortunate non-Americans,
considering that an embarrassing amount of Americans can't even find
their own country on a map ..
Sure we should go on trashing other peoples countries ?

Trick or Treat?
ripster's trolling. Don't feed the troll.
Iraq ??? Probably should have solved it during the gulf wars when Iraq invaded Quwait. That would have been sufficient reason to oust Saddam.
My first Filco is on the way, and I'm afraid the home row keys will have worn off before it even gets here.
Y'all are completely off topic. We were talking about someone letting me take over their order! My first Filco is on the way, and I'm afraid the home row keys will have worn off before it even gets here. I must have some hot Dolch lovin'.
Lol, sometimes I think that 90% of us think this.
The other slight technicality is G80-3000s are no longer available in the USA (except some blacks).
Hey guys. Looks like I was just a couple weeks late to this. Is there going to be any policy on taking over unpaid orders at any point or doing another one in the future? This looks like a great set and I'd love to get my hands on one.
I just (re)discovered the world of mech keyboards today (and remembered my old model M) and my Filco is on the way.
But you don't have a Ducky keyboard to put them in yet?
I disagree. Why do we care? Does Kuwait represent our values? (any Kuwaiti members.. don't answer :) ) Iraq vs. Kuwait is as relevant to American interests as the status of East Timor, but do we intervene there?
At least Hussein was a relatively secular madman.
I vote for public humiliation of these 3 deadbeats.
Can someone explain the appeal of the Filco ... Why don't people buy (or at least when they could) a G80 instead, with keycaps that last?
I couldn't find where to buy the flavour of G80-3000 that I wanted. Also, the manufacture quality of Filco is much better than Cherry. Last but not least - Filco has tenkeyless.
Cherry make nice switches, but their keyboard department has oddities.
Why don't people buy (or at least when they could) a G80 instead, with keycaps that last? It seems no worse than a 2kro Filco.
Wow, Ducky won't ship until December?
Plenty of time to read the Geekhack Wikis. (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=START+HERE+--+The+Geekhack+Mechanical+Keyboard+Guide+-+Includes+Glossary+and+Links#LINKS)
Maybe because the only g80's I've seen available in the wild were POS keyboards with credit card readers built into them. That might be fine for some people, but IMO (unless you're actually into magstrips) it crosses the geek/dork divide.
Can someone explain the appeal of the Filco, especially the non-NKRO?

Any updates :d ?
Any updates :d ?According to the tracking they are schedule to arrive Tuesday.
That should only take a couple hours.
Until you get to the end and find there's one extra 'M', and one missing 'R'. So need to go back through all of them to find where the mistake is.
When the Korean guys got their orders a few were messed up too. Some people had double F2 and F3 keys or F1 instead of 1 and stuff like that. Mistakes are likely going to happen, everyone is human.I AM A KEY COLLATING MACHINE *BEEP* *BOOP*
I was going to make an "all those extra pieces" remark, but I thought it'd be in poor taste.
Simple solution: Print a scale 1x1 keyboard layout on paper (spanning multiple pages is OK) and then extras on the side.
Do one set at a time, then bag them/box them as you ensure each set is good.

Hahaha - the comic is of course in PNG.
Any fuzziness in the real keys you can blame on JPG.
I'm heading out to the hardware store to buy double-stick carpet tape immediately. Last time I took off my Filco Otaku keys, it was hell to figure out how to put them back on.
I'm going to post a "Cherry MX Key Removal Guide" in the mods section too so nobody breaks their stabilizers/keys.
Sometimes I worry about you guys......

But I thought they would personally deliver them.

Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.
Yea I just meant that I got my confirmation that they'll be shipped today.Anything with cherry stabilizers is a breeze. They just pop on and off.
Sorry if I made anyone go crazy ;)
Edit: What keyboard (if any) is easiest to replace these keycaps on? I may purchase a cherry keyboard, just to use these =)
How do they feel, compared to Filco's keycaps? They have a nice texture and the double shot nature means you don't feel any pad printing.
For me 6 KRO is pretty important anyway, so the G80 is not an option (and I wouldn't get the cherry red version anyway).
Today is veterans' day post office is closed

Pretty great!
squarebox, the stepped capslock is for cherry keyboard compatibility. The stem is off center.
I will be shipping them out tomorrow when the post office opens. Sorry about the delay guys.
Because Caps lock is useless
It seriously looks like that underneath ? Doesn't look cleanly done :/
That's the way double-shots are made. How often do you look at the underside of your keys?
i bet u going to get your key cap before your kb lolIn your AV... that's not a real person. Is it?

I hope you got a free key set or some cash out of this.
If not feel free to keep MuchAdoAboutNothing's keys.
Maybe it's because they're new but in the right light the key seem to sparkle a bit, almost like gun metal.
r they pbt?abs
r they PBT?
PBT and PET need UV protection if used outdoors, and most grades of these polyesters are flammable, although additives can be used to improve both UV and flammability properties.
Assploding keycaps :D
Did Signature confirm that?
All of our 2-shot keys are made from ABS material (our tooling is only set up for ABS). Sublimation is done on PBT keys and cannot be done on the front of the keycap.
I was just checking tracking numbers. Everything has gone to be processed, and one set has already been delivered.

Nope, that's what we call a mistake.
Though I wish I would've realized that the stabilizers are not symmetrical a little sooner...
Lenovo does the same thing. Annoying, but hardly the end of the world. And at one point (not sure if there still is) you could swap the CTRL and FN positions in the BIOS.

The keys can make nifty fridge magnets.
gorilla glue is something fierce and awesome! I always look for the gorilla now when i need something in that section and look for the mad monkey first. Oh i wonder if i have a need for gorilla tape?
It's pretty good. Not as good as 100 mile an hour tape (http://www.amazon.com/Military-100-Mile-Hour-Tape/dp/B000S93FH8), but nothing much is. My only complaint is I taped up an old vacuum hose with 100 mile an hour tape and then patched it with gorilla tape when I couldn't find the 100mah roll. The gorilla tape got gooey and separated after a while, something the 100mah tape never does.
A hose you want to use silicone self fusing tape. Amazing stuff.

Question about the stabilizer keys: the white pieces fit very loosely (and sometimes so loosely they fall out when turned upside down) in the new key caps. Is there a simple solution to keep them snug inside the key short of gluing them in there?
Received, installed, and awesome. Thanks for all your work WhiteRice.
And does anyone else think the spacebar is abnormally sharp?
i feel the same way actually and i think i'm going back with my old spacebar.
I'm actually really liking the new spacebar, but perhaps that's just me.
Can't you just take some fine-grained sandpaper to it and smooth it out?
Interesting to hear about these issues...did anyone install these without having to use mods? If so, on what keyboards?
Everything works fine on my ducky. It uses cherry style stabilizers.
Well I received confirmation that mine arrived today...can't wait to see them! Still haven't decided on selling them or buying a new keyboard for them yet though...
These keys are awesome, I really like the texture. They are a little noisier than the stock Cherry ones, though.

shouldn't the up and down arrow be different heights? the uparrow is so high that i actually flip it around and it sorta creates a cool inward slope feel, but both ways don't feel natural.I don't know, but cherry key caps are like this too.
It seems everyone's got their keys to play with, except for me!
;-(
I finally installed my set, and I love them. The texture of the keys is much superior to the Filco originals. Not to mention the "looks totally badass" part.
One quibble: the injection spru is on the front edge of the key, and so is visible between the cracks of home row. I don't know why they wouldn't be on the back - every other key I've ever seen has them on the back.
Did you guys get tracking numbers?
pipedream: I was looking at the invoice and they blanks should be profiled row two and three. Did you get two of the same profile or is one key the wrong profile altogether.
The blanks I got are identical. Clarification: they are both same profile as the row three keys.Which row is the one you are missing? I have some extra. :)
Which row is the one you are missing? I have some extra. :)
yea it's pretty annoying to me i think i'll have to sand it out.
One second row blank would be awesome! What about shipping though? Seems a bit of a waste to just send one key to sweden :(I'll see if I can post it in a thick envelope.

I'm estimating 2 weeks from US east coast to Canada west coast, which is the norm for normal mail that isn't Express/Next Day/etc. The guy in Singapore will probably get his before I get mine. I'll just enjoy the pics of everyone else's new keys in the mean time. :canada: (I can't believe this board has a Canada smilie.)
Did you guys get tracking numbers?I just pulled off the keys and pulled some others to compare. It seems you must have ordered the wrong rows as it matches my 'Q' key - this is row two from the top.
pipedream: I was looking at the invoice and they blanks should be profiled row two and three. Did you get two of the same profile or is one key the wrong profile altogether.

Also, I'm missing a small left-shift key. Was it supposed to be included in the Int'l pack or was it never made to begin with?
I've now replaced it with a diamond key...
I assumed rows were being counted bottom-up.
I don't think a small shift was meant to be part the international booster pack since it just specifies 1 enter key and two blanks. I'm using the alternate meta key in it's place - it's the same profile.
Edit: Actually now that I check my two blanks are not identical! The difference is very small so I didn't notice this at first but now I'm comparing with one key from the Q row and I see they're actually the same! My bad WhiteRice, I couldn't see a difference last time I checked.
zefrer do you have all the right blanks?

Just to avoid confusion please look here (http://www.keycapsdirect.com/key-caps.php) for key row reference.Actually, we needed row three (next to enter) and four (next to left shift), but got row two and three instead.
Are you guys missing the key for row two or three.
Front two rows are ALWAYS the same.
Hm i'm willing to trade my geekhack key for an alternative double shot for the escape :X
Maybe like that @&%! doubleshot key :X
i can help you get some before i go back to singapore, i will be flying to Msia for chinese year too.
u have to pay for the poslaju = =
How much bro :typing:
I would only need 1.
note to self: stick with dye-sub pbt.
no lazer otaku
Still nothing here in Germany. The tracking still claims them to be in New York :baby:
You make me feel guilty. Living so close to the factory and getting them last must hurt.
Hey guys, with the intl booster pack, give me until after Thanksgiving. So basically I need to get a blank for the 4th row and ship them out.
Take your time.
Your effort is well appreciated!
I wish the keycaps were more refined. I guess as long as I'm living in this world I will always have to accept imperfections as character-defining rather than defect. Like others, I would have liked the keycaps to be thicker.
Anyhow, here are some things I noticed, followed by my preferences:Whats a spruce mark ? Do you mean the slight chips on the underside of the keycap as if it was removed from another piece of plastic ? I see them on some of the keys :X but when installed i doubt they will be visible.
- Marks (sprue marks?) at front wall. Should be at the back wall
Actually i really liked the context menu key. Looks really good to me.
- Context menu key graphic is relatively huge. Should be smaller (I guess the excuse is that it's so detailed)
I see what you mean, however i think the diamond centered is fine.
- Diamond key labels are centered horizontally, unlike other thumb key labels. Should left align those, centered in the region occupied by the winflag logo
Looks fine to me
- 1234567890 keys' normal and shifted labels are relatively left aligned while being left aligned. Punctuation keys' normal and shifted labels are relatively centered while being left aligned. Prefer the rule for punctuation keys
I saw the difference in font thickness between the enter and shift like you mentioned as well (slightly). However i think it's alright. Shift, ctrl, alt, caps lock, tab all seem to have the same thickness. The enter was probably so slightly more thicker to accentuate it since it's so oftenly used. If the right shift was thicker than the left shift i would probably call foul, but since the enter is a single unique key i don't think it really mattered :X the thickness is just slightly so anywayz.
- Enter key label is doubly thick all around (the arrow, and text. I guess this key is quite important). It's noticeable vs. right Shift key. Should be consistent with other key labels
Yet again i notice the difference in thickness. Out of all of your observations, this one seems the most discernable because the contrast between the ;: and ' " in thickness is noticeable. Still i can live with that.
- '" key label is bigger than ;: . Reassess the relative sizing and styling for all punctuation keys
- Horizontal lines in -_ and =+ are all crooked. Make them not crooked
Other thoughts:The dolche as it is seems fine to me.
- I don't know about the Dolch color scheme, but I wanted the grey to have been darker, at least as dark as the average of the two-tones
Is fine as is.
- "Back Space" (would have preferred Backspace, or even BackSpace)
- Thumb key "Control" keys would've been fine labeled as Ctrl (see other keys that are abbreviated [e.g., Alt, which is two keys over]). More consistent to relative key size. The caps lock Control key would've been more distinct this way.
- The "J" (which is effectively a circumcised "U") by weight appears offset to the right, although geometrically centered. Nudge it left a hair
This isn't really fair since I'm biased on QWERTY and it's only noticeable since "J" is directly below "U," so this wouldn't be applicable to say, "L"- "O" too small. Should like good fonts extend above and below other block letters' boundaries, ever so slightly; not doing so makes it look smaller. For an example of what I mean, check out the bottom edges of the "e" and "d" of the Fedex logo
PS: the f and J keys have the dibs on it and the numpad number 5 has a nipple dib :X
@Moogle Stiltzkin : May I ask if you bought this double-shot and Ducky PBT, won't it render one set a waste?
Which would u use?
I'm still deciding whether to buy more Ducky but couldn't decide whether PBT is worth the money.
Asking why do u need more than 1 set of keycaps is liek asking why do u need more than 1 keyboard >.<

There there, stop having your lovey dovey quarrel in here. Do it in somewhere else.

Some of the key's lettering are offset too much to the left. (too close to the edge)
aren't those ctrl/alt keys supposed to be offcentered left?

All hail Panda :d
switching back to my old cherry space bar, this on cuts too deep =/Did you try turning it around. I forget where but I saw that someone else did something similar.

Came out nice with suprisingly crisp lettering.
I think keyboardlover was trying to sell his if I'm not mistaken
...
Anyone selling a set of these by chance?
I'm giving serious thought to selling my second set, but I'm 99% sure I've promised first notice to an individual here already (I'm going to check my post history). If so, I have to honor that.

If you don't already have them promised them to someone else, I'd be glad to take them off your hands :-)

tjweir took the keycaps, paid and ready to ship tomorrow (apparently the USPS requires in person delivery to a USPS employee for International Priority Mail, which I can't do today).
Be interesting, eh.......
wah?I think it's a spam bot.
The spacebar should fit both ducky and leopold since the cross points match.
It is the cherry keyboards that won't fit because the spacebar crosspoint is slightly off center.
the stabilizers are nearer to the switch? btw, are the keys pbt? I couldn't find any clue abt them talking abt the material used for their keycaps. I am assuming that if they use pbt, they will talk abt it.
what abt the keys...ima assume they r abs ^^
Until you actually get a mechanical keyboard, please stop talking about stuff you do not have the slightest clue about.
"So long as we do not depend on the facts entirely, incomplete knowledge is better than complete ignorance."
Ducky will fit, Cherry will fit (g80-3000 winkey, g80-1800 winkey) since the Korean guys who originally ordered the set that we cloned designed it to fit both the Filco and Cherry.
Leopold does not fit because it uses an entirely differently aligned spacebar, because it is made by an entirely different OEM.
Well just cause i dont have one yet doesn't mean i don't know some stuff i've read about. You'd be a fool to ignore that even if some stuff are half truths. Sorry if i can't get 100% facts straight sometimes; i'm still learning. Like everything on the internet take with a grain of salt :/ But it's distasteful how you seem to think that your the sole authority on mech keyboard just cause you own some :/ let others have their own assumptions; and yes i'll gladly learn from my mistakes. But i can do without your condescending tone thank you very much your lordship.
Didn't really mean to be that offensive, apologies. However, I don't think its a good idea to spread half-truths and total guesses though. Especially not when questions have been answered correctly several times in several threads including this very one (including once just two posts before your post), for example by people posting pictures of them working fine on Cherry keyboards (http://geekhack.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=13524&stc=1&d=1289914786) and elsewhere of people reporting the spacebar not to work on the Leopold board (http://oi52.tinypic.com/14il6qh.jpg).
Knowledge is not about the amount of keyboards you own, some of the most knowledgeable people on this board barely own a few. But if you want to learn and gain knowledge you should at least bother to invest some time researching (or in this case, even only scrolling back a few posts) instead of mindlessly spreading wrong info.
You just happened to be in the target of my monday-morning-rage. Apologies again.
Actually I have spent a lot of time Moogle correcting your false statements.
Chill with the speculation dude. Even MW at 4000+ posts at least owns a couple of mechanical keyboards.
This isn't OCN.

Where can I get a set of keys like this for my Filco? That group buy 4 thread is so confusing to me :(

ROUND3/STANDARD
email youremailhere@email
send that to 7bit_R4
Hmm I'll have to go through and read the round 4 wiki again. Any suggestions on what I should do for a space bar that matches? Also should I get like a confirmation email after sending this PM to 7bit_r4
