Could you make a wrist pad out of this ?

https://store.rojeleather.com/genuine-stingray-skin-polished-finish-in-black/

or this

http://store.rojeleather.com/genuine-python-back-cut-skin-short-tail-matte-finish-in-gray/

Unfortunately nope.. these types of leather can't be formed, and you also can't import python to Canada so I wouldn't be able to get it legally even if I could incorporate it :(
Stingray leather comes in small pieces (and it smells distinctly fishy!) so it's got some additional practical issues.

Yeah, I wouldn't feel comfortable with it, sorry acidtrip69 but exotic leather is something I'm not branching out into using
(the croc rest a little while back is a print on vegtan and not the real thing).

really ? are you kidding me ? i'd pay for the cost of skin and anyway i would be the customer. You make what the customer wants its not about your feeling :( i guess i can try to find another person that works with theses leathers if you don't want to, but i still feel like you should get off your high horse a bit.

I think his back order list indicates your purchase withdrawal would have little impact, nor is there any incentive to go against his morals to appease someone like yourself.

Lol at "you make what the customer wants". You must be a real joy to be around IRL, salespeople must love you.

I do tend to make rash judgments based on what I perceive a person to be like from their online person. It is a fault of mine no doubt. I'd like to think I'm just being blunt, but yea my responses can be equally ****ish :D

I'd like to say it's not only a reason of morality.  It's true that I personally would not feel comfortable using elephant leather/endangered species, but you could push the question of why I think leatherworking is ethical in general (which I do have an answer for, as it's a question I've thought about--but that's a longer post for another time).

However, I actually did look into the possibility of using non-endangered exotic leather for a customer many months ago.  The import laws in Canada are far, far stricter than those in the United States, and even with flawless paperwork for a species that wasn't blanket-banned it would take a huge time investment to handle and resources I don't have. (For example, kangaroo leather is severely controlled here, which any Australian will tell you is pretty silly.)  Getting into legal trouble over this isn't worth it.

Neither have I developed a way of using different types of leather in a rest since they can't be moulded in the same way I normally use--again, I've tried a couple of methods, none of which I think do proper justice to either the raw materials nor the level of quality I'm comfortable putting my name on.

In sum there are a lot of considerations I've made here--I just felt I'd let you know early before you spent too much time looking at different leathers.
Hope this clarifies my post a bit more.

? Well that didn't make sense. I made a statement about how I form conclusions online, how could one be 'still wrong' about a self-assessment which is a whole other topic. ^_^ Unless I was 'still wrong' about my response being equally ****ish, in which case you may be right, in that you are truly the bigger as*h***.

I'd like to point out it's not simply a question of morality--if it were you could rightly ask me why I think leatherworking is ethical at all (which I do have an answer for, as it's a question I've thought about--but that's a longer post for another time).  It's true, though, that I personally would not feel comfortable using elephant leather.

Well said, and yea there is case to be made that one type of leather should not be significantly different than other from a morality standpoint, though I could still understand and respect not wanting to knowing the animal is exotic and the leather may have been sourced using unethical means (poachers) that could be threatening the species

if you read the page on the leather saler its all fine and done to code.

Elephant loxodonta africana are legally traded in the United States. All elephant hides we trade comply with US Laws and CITES Appendeix II. Since you didn't seem to understand jolonnar's post...

1. jolonnar lives and works in Canada, not the US. What you posted in reply is therefore irrelevant.

2. jolonnar already said they wouldn't use that material, so why press the issue?

i wasn't talking to the OP, i was talking to the person that said maybe the leather might have been potched  or what ever. I know i'm not going to be able to get wrist pad in a exotic leather from the op. I'm not arguing about that. Next time read the Post more carefully and see who i replayed to to see and and understand the conversation more.
Maybe next time you do that you will be able to "seem to understand my post more" ahahah XD

I think at this point I need to ask you to take your own arguments with other users out of my thread as it's disrespectful to me and my customers.  Thanks.

Calm down AcidTrip.
The response you are getting is all because the way you voiced your first response. It makes you sound like a self-centered twat.

This is the artisan services forum, you are commissioning an artist. And Jolonar has every right to decline an order for whatever reason she wants.
And you are pressing the issue.

Besides, both snake skin as well as stingray are not very comfortable for your wrists. The latter was used for the handle of swords because it provided excellent grip even when wet with blood. The flip side is that it will be very uncomfortable on the sensitive skin at your wrists. Snake skin is too coarse and will either look like crap a few months down the road or will just be very abrasive.

still have your work on my mind. planning to commission you once again after I get the funds in order. I have a total of three possible projects for you, though one is a two piece item and the other is something new and unrelated to this forum that I would like to pick your mind on. keep up the great work!

Just wanted to say that I received the green/black faux-alligator wrist rest last week, and I'm loving it.  I'm using it with my work keyboard, and it makes typing an absolute pleasure.  Plus, it looks stunning, which adds to that certain je ne sais quoi of keyboard as a seamless extension of the mind's creative process.   :thumb:

Hey everyone, just got back from a short RL business trip to find a bunch of new orders and PMs :)

I'll be catching up on these responses today, as well as getting a bunch of almost-finished custom orders ready for shipment on Monday.
Last week it was all standard black and white going out, so I didn't post pictures, but this batch will be a lot more interesting to show off.

I believe I've caught up on PMs and stuff (Melvang has a really cool idea.)

So I ended up looking up at my clock after working on finishing up Binge's awesome piece and realized I missed the 6 PM shipping cutoff :(.  gsimon's will get dropped off tomorrow but badloop's will get picked up Wednesday instead of Tuesday.  DHL is so fast you should still get it before the week ends though.

Three went out this morning, a full size black and white from my site, plus these two:

Wow, this is maybe kind of geeky, but I'd like to thank Tony for being my first Bitcoin customer!
(I am more than happy with BTC/LTC payment, if anyone is interested.)

Some more orders out this week!

I know badloop has been waiting for this one:

And gsimon's all-black TKL isn't boring at all!  It's a nice piece of leather with a bit of veininess to the grain, makes it a bit more interesting imo :)

I failed to get the piece in the mail but I should be able to get the details we talked about finished up in the morning and shipped to you as well.  Feel free to post any pics when you finish.

Omg why did I not think about putting an aperture lab symbol on mine, man that would have been sweet

Still loving mine btw, I put a big scratch in the right one and it's starting to look worn in but it still looks good

I figured now was a good time to fix my name, less confusing for PMs and stuff :)

Hey I've still got a big piece of that leather, I can definitely make another one!

The nice thing about real leather is that if it ever gets too worn for your taste, it fixes up with a bit of leather conditioner or protectant stuff.

Speaking of which. Is that something we should do right away?

Nope, I put on some conditioner as a final step before shipping so it should be good for a while.
