Hello again everybody,
I'm Upas, from CannonKeys. You might know me from the Satisfaction 75 (which unfortunately is delayed again). But a delay there means a new opportunity for one of my other designs to run - the Brutal 60.

Note: All images in this post are PHOTOS, not renders!
IC FORM HERE: https://goo.gl/forms/KtGH5dBRbFCQuYbf1
The Brutal 60 is roughly inspired by the Boston City Hall - an iconic example of Brutalist architecture. It features a wider top than bottom, and aggressive chamfer where the top meets the bottom. When looking at it, the seam you see on many boards is hidden. So in a sense, it's a seamless design!
Here are some of the technical details:
Aluminum top and bottom
White FR4 plate offered in both ISO and ANSI, Tsangan or Standard, with split Rshift, stepped caps, split backspace
FR4 ALPS plates are available as addons
No PCB included
Burger mount (top) - 12 o-rings will be provided with every kit
7.5 degree angle
20 mm front height (Same as Tofu)
34 mm back height
Acoustic polyfill will be provided for the interior
Weighs 1 kg (2.2 lbs) without plate/PCB/switches
I have already done a production run of this keyboard for a smaller, private GB. I intended to run this after the Satisfaction75 group buy, but given the delays, I can move up the timeline. Given that this has already been produced with high quality, this IC phase will be relatively quick. Once enough interest has been expressed, I will move into the GB phase. Fulfillment should also be relatively quick, given I already have a great factory lined up.

Here is a sound test of the board, with the acoustic polyfill inside, with lubed gat yellows, o rings for the burger mount, and an FR4 plate.

The target cost will be no more than $200 including shipping (to the US - my apologies to others!). I can't promise that I'll achieve this price point, but that is the goal. One thing to note - this is a 60% that's on the cheaper side. Which means the bar for quality will not be as high as something like the keycult no 1. As an example, here are a few damages that would still be considered A-stock, with justification.
In this image, the dent is right under the seam. It's not possible to see when placed on a desk, and very minor.
In this image, the dent is so small that it wouldn't be visible once the board is assembled.
In general, large defects to visible faces will make a board B stock. But minor issues, small issues that won't be visible, or small dents on the bottom of the case that are not visible when the keyboard are on the desk will not cause a B stock evaluation.
This might change your interest in this board, but the idea here it to make this a very accessible, but beautiful case design that people can buy.
I may also offer carbon fiber plates as an option for this GB, but the layouts will be more limited.

In for this. I've been looking for an affordable top mount 60% case

Good price! GLWS!
By the way, shipping to some countries can be as high as more than 60 dollars. Might want to consider that :)

Thank you for reminding me about this! I have edited the post to clarify my goal is to keep it at 200 shipped for the US.

The edges aren't as bad as the Macbook Pro
ne machicolations avail?
Those would make it expensive to machine :))

I like this design

Besides being top mounted, I ain't sure what else this design might offer beyond any other regular sixty.
-
I've been asked to share details on the mounting. It's a top mount with a twist. It's burger mount - which was pioneered by hineybush.
This is the case before the plate is installed:
Notice that every plate mounting point has a little cutout for an o-ring. It's not as deep as an o ring, and a little bit wider. This is so that the o ring has space to expand when it compresses, but is bounded by the edges of the o-ring indentation.
This also means that when installed, the o-rings stay in place:
Now when we install the plate, it's sitting on o-rings, and does not touch the top case.
When we screw the plate in, we can use another o ring on the other side. This o ring isn't constrained so it just compresses and squeezes out.
Completed:
So you can use this as any traditional top mount, or you can use the o rings to provide a bit of isolation.

WKL top? I think it would fit with the brutalist aesthetic. Other than that great board. Love the fact that there isn't a fat brass piece in the bottom and the targeted price.

Only planning on offering a standard top in order to keep the price down.

Will this layout be supported?

Wondering about this too. If not, I'm still super interested! Would be a beautiful and affordable build.

I will not be offering a plate with this layout, but I'll post DXF files after the group buy completes so that others can create their own plates.

Excited for the GB! Just curious, would this burger mount (top mount w/ O-rings) differ in feels in comparison to gasket mount?
-
i am interested in that blue ....

This weekend...! Can I get a whoop whoop?

There are so many different implementations of gasket mount. Which one are you referring to? This burger mount system is also somewhat a variation of gasket mount as well (if you put on those gasket washers).

I assume they mean like the Meme, Leaf, Volcano, etc which has the plate pressure-mounted with gasket-like strips around the edges.

Here you go! The board is really awesome, I will do a typing test tomorrow once my kids stop the noise pollution in the house.

See, if you used a proper layout you wouldn't need 3 keyboards at the same time kappa

Hey guys, still waiting on approval for the actual GB thread, but the GB is live on my site!

The Reddit post says 25 blue and 25 black so it sounds like it’s limited.

I've actually rebalanced a bit. I have already placed the order with my factory, but they haven't started anodization yet, so I was able to change the numbers of each color. There was way more demand for blue, so it's gonna be more blue than black.
-
Ordered a black. Cool board.
-
man want to put in an order but waiting to see if I hit on a raffle lol. If not, hopefully there's still a few boards left!
-
Lovely board and reasonable pricing, I couldn't ask for more. But when I got to checkout, shipping to Australia costs an extra $50 making my order of brutal 60 + pcb over $300.
Pretty sad to hold off purchase at the this time, and I hope international buyers get better shipping in the near future. :(
-
$50 to australia sounds cheaper than average lol
-
Are there still spots left?

There is 1 Blue brutal60 left. :)
After this run, this blue color will not be run again.

Any chance of a black FR4 plate?? Sure would look better on the black case :)
-
Dayum, just got shipping notice. That was fast.

You're telling me. I got the ship notification today and a few hours later, it's in my hands!

Got mine today. The finish (black) is absolutely flawless. Very nice board. I was hoping to pick up a CF plate b/c I don't like the look of the white plate on the black board, but no luck so far. Anyone have an extra they want to sell?

I'm still waiting for mine, but I got a CF tsangan plate to compare with the FR4 plate. I'll let you know if I decide to pass on it.
