Can we have a separate board for Keyset ICs?
« on: Thu, 18 March 2021, 23:16:34 »
It's gotten a bit excessive to try and find interesting new keyboards, macro pads, PCBs, and other interesting ideas when there are just so many keycap interest checks. Not saying there's anything wrong with keycap interest checks; I post them myself. But, there's just a lot of them and I feel they could perhaps be organized better.

Worth taking a look at?

100% on board. Even better a third for just deskmats where new posts are instantly archived/deleted.

Couldn't agree more. Keyboards, keysets, and everything else should be compartmentalized into three groups in my opinion.

Here's to hoping one day we see a split between "pre-confirmed" ICs and more raw WIP ICs.

Entering the echo chamber. Also +1 for separate thread for "accessories" like wrist wrests, artisan caps and of course, deskmats.

Would love to see a minimum post count for IC as well, or account creation date restriction. New ic page for keysets, one for keyboards/macropads, and another for other. If they don’t want to implement restrictions can they at least flag and hide low post count ICs and now show them until a mod approves.

Yes, and although it may be difficult for keysets, other IC's should require an actual made prototype for it to be approved. That would cut down drastically on failed GBs, because people would have an actual idea on manufacturing costs and limits. Going from rendering to an actual product is a whole different step. As a machinist, a lot of what I see on here is either impractical from a machining standpoint, or a job no shop will want to take on (ie a case with 10-20 complex parts).

I see a lot of piggybacking for people wanting to get ICs screened or not screened for quality and any thoughts about that matter aside, that's just not what this thread is for. I think this change would be high-impact, and relatively low-effort. I'm not really comfortable with asking the mods to do exorbitant amounts of work policing all these threads with an eagle eye, this is just the quickest solution that would work.

This to infinity. A separate category would rule and is a pretty low impact change.

Totally agree, and I think this is the way to go really. Generally speaking, we don't want to police IC threads or "ideas" in as a whole (aside from the obvious theoretical/actual examples), because a poorly thought out idea can spark something really cool and it seems foolish to stifle that. However, I think that some combination of splitting off Keyset ICs entirely and/or creating a separate subforum for keyset ICs in the ideating phase is a good move. :thumb:

I'd settle for an "Unread posts" page that only filters out the keyset ICs.

i think breaking out keysets is a good change

screening ICs for quality is a high effort solution to a problem that's not really a real problem

I like this idea. I am also OK with limiting the content on that board to ONLY keycap sets or keyboards, but having a place for only keycap sets might be better.
