[IC] code. keycaps
« on: Thu, 22 June 2023, 20:19:44 »
Hey everyone!! First time doing something like this O_o but I'm making my own coding-related keycaps! I got the Terminal R1 from mvkb keycaps last year and I absolutely loved them! I did still want to make my own code-related keycaps in a dark purple tone and after a few months, I've got a design you guys might like and I'd love to get some feedback! I got the keycaps prototyped (mostly so I could see them in person + I hAvE sPeNdInG pRoBlEmS :d). Anyways, here's some photos!

Plan is to sell these self-managed on https://hackrlabs.dev/ (once the website it actually up).
These will likely be (and the ones posted are) dye-sublimated pbt keycaps.

Layout: (let me know if there's any additional layouts you guys would like to see!)

Sometimes it's an UwU, sometimes it's an OwO, most times it's a T_T ykwim?

Exciting gameplay, GLWIC

Maybe consider posting layout and other info, if any

I will hopefully update the post soon! I wanted to get 3D renders for you guys (but I'm really bad with Fusion 360). I'll add a 2D key layout for now!

Nice, any plans for 40% MKB support?

I'd strongly advise you look at the kitting of other upcoming keysets in IC right now and see what more you need to add to this.

Second to that it'd also be pertinent to mention how you plan to bring this to reality (vendors or self-managed), what vendor you're using, materials and manufacturing methods?

For sure! I love 40%! We're still pretty early on so I can add it as an option!

I'll look at the other keysets to see what else I could add. I know for sure I'm missing a few keys like the 1u ctrl, alt, hypr keys.

I'll also update the post in just a second but generally, the plan was to be self-managed at https://hackrlabs.dev/ (it's down since it's still a WIP) but I'm open to doing it with the help of vendors if it's easier that way! I'm not exactly sure what the pros and cons are or if I'm able to do a mixture of self-managed + help from vendors.

And finally, manufacturing so far is pointing in the direction of doing with dye-sublimated pbt keys. I got an initial batch in but some colour tweaking needs to happen so I will accordingly update the post once I have those in!

maybe read some info on kitting / refer to recent sets first. currently the layout doesn't seem to support a lot of stuff, and the additional mod keys largely seem to be icon versions of the mods instead of additional supplementary keys

in any event icon mods are better to be offered in a separate kit

I'll better designate designs the next time. The icons are planned to be a novelties kit, yes. I'll post updates in a few days - it's a busy couple days upcoming :P
