Acrylic/Aluminum Case Manufacturers
« on: Tue, 16 April 2013, 21:45:03 »
I was wondering if we could get a sort of list of some manufacturers people use to get acrylic/aluminum cases made?

I've PMd a couple people about some people to contact for some quotes on getting a case made for this little puppy.

Maybe someone could give me sort of an estimate based on their knowledge of getting cases made of what an acrylic and an aluminum case would cost for this PCB. Yes, I know it will be expensive and not worth it for something that literally does nothing, but I think it will look awesome so we will leave the opinions out of this, please :D

If someone has knowledge on how to design such a case, please PM me!

Anyway, thats all this is about :D

Thank you to everyone that helped get that PCB design built, especially Regack.

So, it gets power from the USB, and lights the LED when you press the Cherry MX switch to close the circuit?

And yes, regack is awesome!

I don't know anything about PCBs, but that isn't what I want it to do haha. I want it to just be constantly lit via USB connection. The switches are there merely for key holders.

Does something need to be changed?

You should add a controller! :P

No, I was just asking if that's how it works. If you told regack how you want it to work, I'm sure it works that way. :)

i recommend ponoko for acrylic "sandwich" style cases; especially if you're prototyping, they have no minimum set-up fee.

Alternatively, depending on where you are located, various hackerspaces have laser-cutters available to the general public at a per-minute fee; it's probably cheaper than ponoko, and no shipping ;)

I've though about this, it could be a nice mini "numpad" for gaming and what not if I really wanted it to be.

How much cost do you think this would add?

Ahhhh, I see! You scared me for a second :p

And yes, Regack is really talented with this stuff and helped out a ton with everything.

I may have to send him a little care package for his help! :D

Hmmmmm, I'll have to look ponoko up! Thank you!

This also seems like a good idea, but I doubt they have one of these in South Dakota :/

On another note, if someone has any knowledge of designing these cases. I'd love your help!

You asking someone to teach you, or to just do it for you?

What is that PCB anyways? A runt version of a keypad?

Do for me :/

My PCB is a showcase for CCs, brobots, girlDC caps. So basically just a place to show them off.

WFD you are the man!

One thing, I don't see a place for the USB to go through?

Thanks man!

Depending on what controller you use and how many you buy they go from $12 for a ATMega32u4 to lower depending on quantities.

I guess I understood it wrong. You said this was just to mount valuable caps as a showcase, I didn't think it'll actually be a functional PCB. So you're going to be typing on all these CCs, brocaps, and iron mans? It's going to be even more expensive once you add grooves for the plate, the plate itself, and USB cutouts. I think you should just stick to the current GH60 keypad already in development if you want a fully functional PCB and case.

I said earlier that I want it connected to my PC via USB connection.

No I won't be typing on these brobots, CCs and expensive caps, if I want to use it as a gaming addon I can switch the caps..

Eh, I already have the PCB design done, and a couple people are helping me with a case. I'll just stick with this.

Thanks for the advice anyway

You need a controller to actually use it as a game pad.
