From the maker "JUN":
In my eyes, J80 is following the original intention of custom keyboards without any breakthrough. Ten years before, cherry fans want an 80% cherry keyboard, that's how the first Kustom keyboard was born, also the otds, which cherry fans were extremely excited about. After that, the rapid development of keyboard kit come to continuous innovation, optimization and function improvement. The number of keyboard players also has skyrocketed. All the otd followers went so far away from cherry. I would say they did achieve a great job on custom keyboard but just not in a cherry style which I feel a bit pity.
Nowadays, a big gap between current custom keyboard kits and old cherry boards is it’s almost inevitable to compromise on the design due to the limit of CNC processing. The result is that we have lots of keyboard that looks freaking awesome but feel not that great as OG cherry board does.
Here for J80, I use "I want it" as the most fundamental purpose and principles. I will put the type feeling into the first place, trying to produce the keyboard regardless of the cost. Like everyone else, I have my own keyboards, keycaps, and most of the time they are tightly packed in the store box. But this time, I want to build something that you could enjoy it everyday, a perfect daily driver, a ultimate typing solution. I hope J80 could be a tribute to OG cherry board and finally become the last part of collection that all cherry fans are seeking for in these years.
I am very fortunate and very grateful to have lots friends who have the same, overlapping ideas and intention with me. I will continue to improve my work and continuously let everyone know that the J80 is the board that fully loaded with OG cherry fans intention and love.

I saw this over at DT. I would join if there was a gb.

Reminds me of the Realforce.
Is it programmable?
-
I want one

J80 looooooks najs
I want one

-
Looks real interesting.
Any further details on it?
-
I don't understand, what are you saying is the limit of CNC processing here.
-
Dis look'n najs, mane.

This looks so freaking cool. I've been looking for a TKL to put my BSP Cyrillic on, and I think this is the board. Sign me up right now.
-
My want senses are tingling.
-
I'd buy it if it was plastic
-
I reckon if it had them there Windows thing-a-ma-jiggers on the bottom row (so that I could actually use it for productive things), well then... then I reckon I'd buy it.
If it's fully programmable I see no problem with mapping windows to scroll lock. Not very easy to use, but more usable than nothing.
-
If this board makes it to production, it will be the last one I will ever buy.
I would love to hear an update of there is one...
In the mean time I'll wait patiently.

This is really good! but considered it doesn't has plate stick with pcb, will it broke when inserting center keycap?
-
Can't believe I'm just now seeing this.
Very cool.

Should be fine cause the PCB is steadily installed to the housing by more than 20 high quality screws

Stumbled upon this by chance. I think I need one of these too :thumb:
It may have been designed after the Cherry 1800 but I picture it as a winkeyless MX Realforce with a prettier bezel ;D

This in the cherry 1800 layout would be amazing. Still, the ode to OG cherry is cool

Looks pretty cool.
But I have to ask, what is so special about it? The OP hypes it up a lot but doesn't give much information.

It is basically an exact copy of the OG cherry case style you will see on the most popular/mass produced G80's such as the 1000, 3000, and 1800. Cherry never made a tkl, so this is an attempt to capture the cherry style in a tkl form factor; tkl being one of the most popular form factors among us enthusiasts.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Very Nice! I can't really use a TKL since I'm always working with numbers, but those classic styles just make me want to press the keys and feel the sweetness. Great job!
-
Is their an email list yet? This could be the last keyboard I ever buy... very nice

That has got to be the ultimate tribute board! I really like the idea behind this board, and i like the design even more.
I really hope to see this project come to fruition! Good luck.

Does anyone know the price for the kit when it sold on Taobao?
-
VERY handsome, but too large for me. "OG" is original gangster? or is this some lingo I'm not privy to?

Just means older, or genuine etc.
People refer to older things that started a trend as OG, such as the 356L being the OG kustom.

Wait, so this board has already been run? I was unaware that it has been produced once already - got any more info for us?
