I appreciate this, makes it easier to hide from my wife!

You're not quite in the clear yet haha.

So, I've sent out the first 77 invoices, and it turns out that paypal is having a bug on their end relating to invoicing. Whenever I paste (or type, even) in the email addresses, I'm receiving an infinite wait time indicated by a looping blue bubble.

I've talked to a paypal business rep about this, and he said that they were aware of the bug, and informed me the bug is not in an escalated priority. He said that they couldn't give a timeframe for fix time, but he did say soon. So basically, we have to wait until the bug is fixed for me to invoice again.

I apologize. :( I've tried everything in my power to troubleshoot, and I've used 3 other devices, all of which have the same error.

I'll invoice ASAP after this gets ironed out.

Maybe, just maybe, the samples would arrive before the invoices after all?

Oop, sorry!

I've sent out almost all of the invoices now.

If I emailed you for an unclear order, I have not sent you an invoice. I will do so tomorrow, after sorting out your order.

Thank you!

I've fixed the error with duplicates. It was you and 3 other people, and I've removed all of your duplicate invoices. Tell me if you still see two invoices. Thanks.

You should be getting the invoice tonight and tomorrow morning (german time).

Also, current invoice due date extended until friday, oct 6th PST due to 34 people not paying their invoices on time. If they are not paid by friday, I'll have to cancel them.

Weekly update #1 up in the OP.

You can expect these every 7-10 days for the duration of the GB.

I mean, I still haven't placed the order with Maxkey yet, waiting to iron out molds.

However, I don't want to do this on principle. The GB period is over, and you'll probably have to get extras. Go talk to candykeys about it, as you're not in the states.

By the way, I'm planning to not order any extras for states, but if I do, there won't be very many.
:/

Just wanted to let you know.

Thanks for your reply.
I didn't receive a PayPal invoice. It is a standard email with bank details and Paypal email address from Candykeys.
Then I paid by using 'Pay for goods and service' on Paypal with the order number in the note.

Hope they have received and acknowledge it. Didn't want to be kicked out of the group buy.
Haven't joined a group buy like this before, it makes me feel a bit worry when I paid and received no confirmation.

You know, I joined this group buy like the first day it was available, but it slipped my mind to check up on it.  Apparently I never got an invoice emailed to me.  The US buy was run through Monokei, right?  I wonder how many people they failed to invoice.  That sucks for me.  :(

Yeah, I mean nothing has happened so far. I've promised updates whever anything new happens, and right now I happen to be waiting for Maxkey to finish some line stuff before they get to us.

Not that the thread shouldn't be bumped, it's just that there was no reason to bump for the sake of bumping.

Minor tangent there, sorry. :)

One odd thing about Maxkeys: it sounds like once molds are made for a new key, they won't necessarily be available to be used by later sets:

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=91288.msg2503164#msg2503164

Hoq asked Maxkeys if the 1U Fn, Ctrl, and Alt molds made for Calm Depths could be used Maxkey Flamingo, and was told the molds were to weak and wouldn't last for a second set.

Thanks for letting me know!

I ran calm depths as well, so I'm going to ask them if I can use the molds we're paying for with that set.

I hope I can, but if not, :/. Going to have to pay mold fees (6000 dollars, tf) anyway, as I'm going to be making new molds with this one too.

At the end, it's still quality af, and a good ass deal for SA.

I guess that means they’re definitely not using steel for these molds. I’ve heard SP uses brass for some/all of their keys. Maybe Maxkeys is using something even softer than brass for these type of keys.

That sounds pretty strange.  What kind of metal would a plastics company use to make molds that doesn't survive more than a single run?  What if that one run is a LOT of keys?  Does that mean the last sets that get produced are of a degraded quality compared to the very first sets produced?  Forgive my ignorance on the matter, but I would expect they'd make the molds for a given profile once, and reuse them "indefinitely".  I've always wondered why all these GBs for the same profile keycaps include a cost for producing molds...

Edit: Relevant thread on making keycap molds:  https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=91596.0    :)

I’d be curious to find that out as well.

Molds that last longer are more expensive to make. For example, steel molds are strong and durable but that strength also makes them harder to work with and thus more expensive. For something like a novelty, the manufacturer might choose a less expensive material for the mold since they don’t expect to use the mold that often.

Not all GBs have mold costs. The mold costs that they’re referring to are for the legends, not the outer keycap shape. Keysets only have mold costs when new molds need to be made (i.e. novelties, new legends or entirely new keycap profiles)

All that said, I’m still not sure why Maxkeys can only use some molds once.

Yaay! A more concrete date.

Should be in my hands in January.

I'm not sure how long it will take me to ship 156 sets, so to play it safe, I'm going to say around  2-3 weeks for shipping it? 2-3 day shipping time, USPS.

Sorry for the relative lack of updates. I know this one isn't very substantial, but I thought I should post it. :)

We should be getting samples of the new molds in 48 days.

They only will provide sample caps when they finish making our molds.

Anyway, hold tight. It's coming.

Also, production time should not be that long. My current estimate of the end of January still stands.

Are they still using brass or w/e it was for moulds rather than steel, limiting the number of times they can be used?

If so I'd be surprised, because the extra moulds you added are going to be requested a lot

Honestly, I'm not sure. I havent asked them about that.

The molds can be used, but only for 800 sets. SA Fade/Fortune is using them, and that should make it cheaper for that set. Also, royalty, when it comes to it.

But I'll have to ask them if they can add those molds to their base offering, as I assume a lot of new sets will want to use them.

They said it would take 45 days from that point, but they said production will not take as long.
