Just got my tracking number. My shipping invoice was January 6

 :eek: My invoice was also January 6th. Maybe mine is coming soon too.

Just to put this info out there so others can compare, I ordered WK version with multi-colored weight, an extra pcb with alu plate.  Paid my invoice on Oct 27.  Who knows if these are batches or whatever, but that’s my situation.  Of the YouTube videos of the v2 CE that have been posted on YouTube already, I think they are all WKL versions.  This is all circumstantial info, but at least you have some info.  Time to get back to my switches.

I've waited for a TGR board before and I'm waiting for this one. I'd recommend just not paying attention, it helps the time pass. Obsessing over each and every step only makes it take longer.

This man speaks the truth, but at the same time obsessing over it is part of the fun :) I've not seen anyone here be toxic or annoyed with it which is refreshing.

On that note, my tracking number just got updated from a january 7th invoice :)

Beware of the LEDs. The last Jane PCB did not play well with LEDs, at least with mine and a couple others. I installed LEDs only to find that out and I had to desolder all of them. I'd opt for the Hiney PCB if you want to do that.

I just tested the plate with tealios, it seems impossible to push it in.

This happens due to the corner radius size on the plate's switch cutouts. Using 1mm doesn't allow for all the material on the switch to come through the plate, but if you use 0.5mm the switch should sort of snap-in cleanly.

I highly recommend putting switches through the plate before you try to push all the way through to the PCB. In my experience this has lessened the overall destruction of my thumbs from pushing switches through tight switch cutouts.

Edit: Talking to yuktsi about it, it seems like both Cherry and standard Gateron fit without a problem -- it appears to be isolated to Tealios. According to his measurements, the width of Cherry and Gateron switches are 13.95mm and the Tealios he measured were 14.05. The standard switch cutout size is 14mm so that .05mm seems to be an issue.

Gateron Inks are very tight as well.. Was about to get them through but it squeezed the sides so tight that it put pressure on the switch and gave it a tactile feel. I had to go with another set. Now that I think of it these were filmed Inks and I didnt try it without films. Anyone having this issue as well?

Outside of that very happy with my board.. It's quite pretty :)

Hi Yuktsi, no apologies needed.  I am 100% satisfied with my Jane and the experience!  I’ll need to send you some pics after I return home and work on fixing my F5 key - there are some other questions I have regarding flex of the PCB - I’ll explain with detailed pictures at that time because it would be easier.  (I also added a short sound test in my imgur link - I’ll need to upload the full vid, but sound wise, everything sounds great.  The iphone mic doesn’t capture the full sound as it is a much deeper sound in person.  I am also typing the keys very hard in the vid.)  There’s an issue with flex in the PCB towards the center of the board, but that might be due to some alignment of the switches (due to the low tolerances probably) that I discovered that I’ll need to fine-tune.  Also, both the gasket and the plat mounting screws are used as the same time, correct?

There are a few pics of the diode issues - but they are easy and I can fix myself (I think) - this was the PCB that was in the case, so I think it was just due to being shaken up during shipping or whatever against that small foam piece.

In terms of the tolerance of the tealios (I also filmed them, so not sure if that changes the dimensions for fit into the plate) - about 75% of the switches popped in with a click and a little pressure.  The other 25% had to be worked in, but they still fit.  I never felt like I was going to break the plate or “force” the switch in, but with pressure applied evenly, I did get the switches in.  There are a few that need to be seated better - I’ve identified about 5 or 10 from an overhead view that need some fine tuning.

Good to know, I was planning to use gateron inks on my build - but I'll leave those for one of the hiney pcb/plate combos.

I highly recommend putting switches through the plate before you try to push all the way through to the PCB. In my experience this has lessened the overall destruction of my thumbs from pushing switches through tight switch cutouts.

Edit: Talking to yuktsi about it, it seems like both Cherry and standard Gateron fit without a problem -- it appears to be isolated to Tealios. According to his measurements, the width of Cherry and Gateron switches are 13.95mm and the Tealios he measured were 14.05. The standard switch cutout size is 14mm so that .05mm seems to be an issue.

I noticed this to be more a problem with the 'boutique' teal-colored tealios with a recent build. I tried to shove them into an OG 910 brass plate and they.would.not.fit. But the normal V2 tealios, while still somewhat tight, were able to get into the plate without pushing so hard my thumb would hurt.

Gateron Inks are very tight as well.. Wasn't able to get them through. Had to use a different switch.

Good to know, I was planning to use gateron inks on my build - but I'll leave those for one of the hiney pcb/plate combos.

Unfortunately it wasn’t enough. In some cases, I had to work the corners of the switch housing.

I also wonder if that extra pressure in the switch case is going to impact anything long term. Feels great to type on so I don’t know.

I’ll post my additional pics of the build in a few hours. I’m also going to watch Jae build his this weekend on his stream. Curious to see his experiences.

I've rectified the other issue with switch / PCB alignment that I was going to post pictures about earlier so my board is pretty much calibrated and good to go at this point.  With the plate screws in (minus the one near the arrow cluster), everything is very stiff - but I'm really liking it.  I kind of wonder 2 things:
  • does the o-ring provide any sound dampening benefit?
  • I wonder if I used the o-ring with my aluminum plate w/ out screws if that would be fine (assuming you're having success w/ the CF plate

For my F13, and the split space key immediately underneath, I set those to vol up and vol down respectively for the time being.  For split right shift, I've got it set to mute until I get more creative.  Don't really need any layer setup for now.  TKL is starting to become my favorite layout thanks to this experience.  I'm going to swap out GMK Honeywell for GMK Laser now and see how that looks.

Sorry, let me know if you have trouble replacing the diode and the plate screw. The size of the plate screw is m2.5*4mm.

I just tested the plate with tealios, it seems impossible to push it in.





This happens due to the corner radius size on the plate's switch cutouts. Using 1mm doesn't allow for all the material on the switch to come through the plate, but if you use 0.5mm the switch should sort of snap-in cleanly.

Gateron Inks are very tight as well.. Was about to get them through but it squeezed the sides so tight that it put pressure on the switch and gave it a tactile feel. I had to go with another set. Now that I think of it these were filmed Inks and I didnt try it without films. Anyone having this issue as well?

This does make me a bit wary for the Gateron Ink switches that I planned on using for this build; I don't have a board yet but once I receive it I'll definitely check how they fit. The inks I have are from the original run on Novelkeys before the leaf issues and 'retooled' bottom housings.

Luckily I do have some cream switches with UHMW stems as a backup, they're awesome when lubed with a thin layer of 205g0.

What stabs are you using?  The ZealPC stabs have a standoff that pretty much prevents the gasket from fitting "naturally".  When I put the plate in the case, I use a plastic spreader from my tech toolkit to 'fit' the gasket in.  It's not the tightest fit, but I already worry that it's putting too much pressure on the top half of the case already.  I've just spent the past 2 nights getting all the switch seating issues resolved because of the tight tolerances with the plate that we've been discussing, so replacing the stabs is out of the question at this point for this particular plate/pcb combo.

I just took out the plate mounting screws and it's interesting how different the experience is.  Typing doesn't feel as tight (and with the screws in I felt a crispness to it), but I also wouldn't say that it feels soft...luxurious is too cheesy of a word, but it's in that vein for me.

Where I notice the flex this most is on the left hand side of the board, and in particular the bottom left hand side, but that makes sense considering it's a TKL layout.  Do you have the same experience?

I had one diode on one of my PCBs compromised as well. I took one off the other one (that I ****ed up and lifted a pad on 100% me) to build my current build.

I put Gat Silent Black Inks in my build as well. it was an absolute nightmare, I soldered in the mod keys with stabs only to realize there was no way i was getting all those switches in the plate. That's when I lifted the pad (for backspace) trying to get those few switches out.

If you have tight switches and are building the CF plate, I ended up pushing every single switch through the plate (for my Gat Inks) then sandwiched everything very carefully double and triple checking the pins all lined up.

Super satisfying that they did, too. After that it was smooth sailing on soldering.

The CF pattern makes me want to switch all my lifestyle accessories to carbon fiber. carbon fiber phone case, carbon fiber minimalist wallet, carbon fiber laptop shell. lol. and somehow integrate into my keys too. but i'm holding out so far.

That said, a few of you probably know I'm selling stuff. Point: I'm trying with all my ability to not sell this Jane. It's amazing. I'm also hoping to hold onto my Alice.

I did have to drop a spot i had for the keycult 1/65 rev 1, too. That hurt.

Vintage Cherry clip-in stabs, toothpick modded. Gotta pull out all of the 2012 keyboard modding stops for this kind of board.
