Nice ANSI conversion!  Using the cat for scale is a great plus too!  If you put both ON a scale, I think the keyboard would win!

How many keys did Unicomp provide?  Just enough for the standard 101 layout?

It's a 104 key set, the upper F-keys are the ones that came with the keyboard.
On a side note: the new keycaps have some imperfections, there's a bit of colour difference between the pebble keys and I had to sand down the corners on almost 1/3rd of them.

Yeah, I didn't think they would provide F13 to F24 :))

And their quality control is ... interesting.  My RGB set has different shades of green for the two shift keys, and I'm not the only one.

Yeah, I know, but this guy had the extreme opposite situation and had a lot of luck. This is the only time that ever I saw one going for that low. I really regret that I didn't bid on that auction...  :(

Huh? You mean a Displaywriter? But that can't be a beam spring KB... The case is from the Model M era. I must be missing something.

DisplayWrite was an IBM word processor App. I'm guessing the keycaps on the SSK are DW specific.

How interesting! I've used lots of apps that have specified the keys you should press with them, but never any that specified what shapes the keys should be.

Software that seeks to control the hardware it runs on... Hmm, could there be a movie idea here?

Unfortunately no, the later models like this one have a thick metal back plate and internal frame but the top is a hard plastic. The 3XXX series ones are massive metal behemoths though, I could oggle them for days.

Just got my beamspring xwhatsit in today, still need to finish cleaning up the case and things. So far I really like the beamspring, but I'll know better once the caps are back on from being cleaned and I can spend a day working from my home office on it. Would love to bring it to work but I think my coworkers would murder me, and that's withoit the solenoid! Been using the F107 a lot lately so I'll have a fresh experinve in mind during the comparison.

Thanks for the kind words chaps.

Here's a picture of my highly customized Frankenboard.
It's got 10 distinct modifier keys (including a working APL key).

My favorite custom key isn't shown in this picture.
The top right key on the NumPad now says "Quindar PTT" (for Push-To-Talk).
When depressed, it un-mutes my Mic and plays the NASA Quindar in-tone (2525 Hz for 250 ms).
When released, it mutes my mic and plays the Quindar out-tone (2475 Hz for 250 ms).

Every web meeting feels like Mission Control:
"[In-tone] Mission Control, you're in the mud. Try switching S band to Omni Bravo. Over. [Out-tone]"
"[In-tone] Roger that, Houston. I've got you 5x5. You're in the pipe. Over. [Out-tone]"

Drives my co-workers crazy!

The dream...                     The reality...

So a 1390120 case with a older Unicomp 104 barrel plate?  Looks very nice.
Quoting me causes a posting error that you need to ignore.

That. It so badass.

Really cool idea with the mic, haha. I'll have to think up some more creative bindings sometime...

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

SSK with blanks, like ramnes shows, is perhaps the most beautiful board, I think.

Long time lurker here but I haven't posted much, here's what I got:

A 42H1292 with the guts of a 1391401: The case of the 1391401 was in bad shape with cracks and large chunks missing, and the 42H1292 sucked to type on. It was really inconsistent and some keys didn't click until they were bottomed out, no rivets were missing surprisingly. Anyway, I combined them and it worked nicely, the controller is just stuffed in there and I had to move the LED strip, but I'm happier with it than I was with the two boards the way they were.

A Unicomp Classic 101, feels almost exactly like the 42H1292 used to except all the keys actually work correctly. A lot lighter than the IBMs in both weight and feel
Yes F10 and F9 are reversed :))

and an early 1390131, the heaviest and stiffest but that's why I like it!

I'm also waiting on a NIB SSK in the mail, there will be pictures of that soon  :D :D :D
