Retro-Modern PCB Gasket 60% Keyboard

Blending the past with the present, Vector renews vintage keyboard elements with modern functions and stylings to create a distinctly retro board that blends into desk environments of the present.

For group buy updates, please subscribe to CannonKeys' Newsletter through their website - this is the fastest and most reliable means possible vs waiting for me to relay the updates.

A Leap Across Time

Large seams, tapered front ledges, rounded edges, large bezels, pen rails - Vector revives the elements of early keyboards and reshapes them to fit the modern.
Use the default penrail matched to the case for an undeniably retro feel; swap it for an accent color to create an entirely new impression that pairs well with vibrant keysets.

Bold Brushstrokes

An uniform visual seam journeys around the board’s faces, defining the case parts and outlining the massive polished weight overlaid with accent laser engravings.
With large, blocky faces that wrap around the keyboard’s form with both a sense of roundness and overall sharpness, Vector blurs the lines between retro and current stylings.

Classic, Timeless Internals

Vector’s homage to the past carries over to its internals with a plateless PCB-mount structure from early keyboards.
With full gasket isolation from the case and internal case screws, Vector brings the early inspiration to custom keyboard standards.

Q&A

Q: No hotswap option?
A: Nope - the board is designed first and foremost as a PCB-mount structure which doesn’t pair well with hotswap.

Q: Can I buy the board without weight engravings?
A: Nope - this is how the board is designed and envisioned.

Q: But I dislike how the weight accents look!
A: Then go find a different keyboard. Also, that’s no longer a question.

Q: What do you mean by the price being “not pretty”?
A: The initial production cost quote we received blew past that of Andromeda. Even after revising the design to make it much more reasonable, it’s still not pretty.

Q: Why the lack of flex slots on the PCB?
A: Without a plate, it flexes so hard that it slams into the bottom of the case and short-circuits. Yes, we tried it - you can probably imagine how that prototype ended up.

Q: What’s the story behind the name?
A: As the winds of creativity moved the sands to form this design transcending the boundaries of time, their motion was captured within vectors of —
— Or not. I randomly slapped the name onto the design to refer to it before any name was chosen, and couldn’t come up with anything else so it just kinda stuck until now.

Note

Early prototype revisions did not have a detachable penrail and had a flex-slotted PCB - some of the photographed units are of the old units and will differ from production.

i do like it though. Is similar To the kwa. And your boards always sound great. Also i would request sandblasted weight as I’m kinda guilty of never being able to keep my deskmat clean enough for long periods of time

When will the final prototype be photographed? Would be nice to see the accent bar

Edit: i didn’t realize this was the final because the bar was the same color. I can see it’s a separate piece from the one photo

Can you add leaf springs? I feel like past boards have been well isolated but stiff
This one relies solely on the PCB for structural integrity and just adding a flex slot was enough to flex so hard that the PCB could easily short against the case - leafsprings would incur a similar issue.
Also, I'm not a fan of removing feedback to the point where bottom-out is mushy or bouncy; I believe this PCB-only gasket mount is a nice middle ground.

Also i would request sandblasted weight as I’m kinda guilty of never being able to keep my deskmat clean enough for long periods of time
I'll look into it - it might be difficult to add an entirely different finish as opposed to different colors, but if it's practical it'll show up as one of the available options.

Oof, I hope this goes better than the Vega GB.
99% sure it will go vastly better, as being backed by CannonKeys resolves the issue of a crippling lack of manpower.
(Although knock on wood since who knows what can go wrong during a group buy)

After seeing the QC complaints on the Iron165, what assurances can you give people that at these high-priced items get the same level of care on the interior facing parts as they do on the exterior?

Why only anodizing?
It would look gorgeous in E-Beige
Please think about ISO users, add a split left shift to your "alice style" keyboards

No, this refers to the initial production cost quote. As I understand it, a revision of the design has at least brought the price down below that of Andromeda (even if we don't know to what extent).

Vector Group Buy Details

Vector is launching soon - here are the details.

Storefront: Hype V2 (visit page -> select Vector limited or standard edition)

Layouts: Regular, winkeyless
Case colors: Black, silver, red, blue-grey
Kit Contents:
- Case
- Aluminum penrail matched to case color
- Weight of choice (see editions below)
- Solderable PCB (sorry, no hotswap on a plateless board)
- FR4 half-plate in case you want to change up the sound a bit
- Feet, carrying case, etc.

Standard Edition:
- Sandblasted steel weight
- "Roughly unlimited" (very high worst-case unit cap that I doubt will be reached)
- 620 USD

Limited Edition:
- Polished PVD brass weight
- Limited to 20 units
- 725 USD

Addons
- Extra PCBs: 45USD
- Daughterboard/cable kit: 5USD (Note that this differs from the standard Unified Daughterboard C3 since it didn't fit)
- FR4 plates, half or full: 20USD
- Aluminum penrail in any of the case colors: 39USD
- PVD brass penrail: 65USD*
- Extra feet: $5 for 20
*Still under negotiation with factory; may change in the near future

Launch Time
- Limited edition will launch on Sept 10 at 11:00AM EST.
- Standard edition will launch 15 mins later on Sept 10 at 11:15AM EST.
- Each edition will run until they sell out or until Sept 30 at 11:59PM EST.
- Sale will be through the CannonKeys raffle queue system.

As much as I'm not a fan of the price myself, it ended up the inevitable for such a low-volume, massive, and quirky board.
Best of luck to everyone looking to secure a limited edition unit.

The protos were just grey (not blue grey), and the color did not end up being an option for production.
The blue grey used for production will be closer to the render (second image).

Unfortunately I do not have any on hand; my best advice is to choose additional penrails by what would match keysets that you plan to use on the board.

In addition, one note for today's launch is that it will be through CannonKeys' new Hype V2 raffle-queue system.
While it has been tested internally, there is always the chance that something implodes when first used publicly; if something does happen, I kindly ask for the following:
  • If there is an error screen with an error message, please screenshot it and note down what you were doing when the error occurred.
  • If the system fails so heavily that there is no error screen (freezes, lockups, blank screens), please note it down, and if possible open the debug console (usually accessed by the F12 key) to capture any error messages (usually marked in red).
Please report these errors via Discord with a mention to my username so I can immediately tackle it or forward it to whoever has the power to fix it.
In the absolute worst case, navigating to /reset (https://hype.cannonkeys.com/reset) will reset any saved data and recover your system, although it will lose any progress if you were in the raffle already.

Edit:
Now that the group buy is live, I will lock the IC thread after a short while.
Since the group buy is handled by CannonKeys and they have a solid system set up to deliver timely updates via newsletter and their online updates page, please use those services for receiving group buy updates.
