Mystery solved - when I took the PCB out I couldn't even see the wire it was so thin, then rushed to make some dinner for the little one. What a strange mod... but I don't hate it. I don't program so I never use tilde.

Wow, it also appears they cut/scraped the diagonal trace on both keys so this is nearly a permanent change until you reconnect those two ends on those cut traces.

Yeah I think the seller very much intended it to be a permanent change - there's small traces of glue on the contact points for additional security. Anyhow it's a neat little difference - bought it as a cheaper donor board to put in a Norbauer so pretty excited!

Every time I come to this thread, it makes me want a topre board more. Still planning on sourcing one so I can at least experience it - have a feeling it would work really well for my work setup.

It works well for all setups. Just have to find the right layout, weight, mods that work for you. Gonna lose a couple dollars in testing is all. Okay... maybe more than a couple...

Hindsight is 20/20 lol. It is 100% never too late to join the topre gang. After picking up my first HHKB and lubing/silencing it earlier this year, I haven't looked back lol. It wasn't awfully difficult to build up some custom stuff either

I'm an older member that went through EVERY topre board. Ended up with HHKB for a long time. Now I have to switch between so many boards for school, work, helping parents, gaming, browsing... I just ended up with a TKL. My brain is too old and mush to adjust between layouts.

You used to be able to sell a topre board for about what you paid for it right away, but upon my recent return to regular activity on here, I've noticed that we live in a custom MX and keyset IC world. No clue how fast the realforces depreciate.

Have a black fc660c and just got the blue/grey caps for the fc as well. Trying to figure out if there is any good combinations of the two that would look cool. Here is what I have managed so far.
