Bought this old gen 1 Realforce 91 NE0100 from 2004 for 70 Euros from Japan. I restored it since it didn't feel right.

Looks cleanable

- tested the keyboard it fully works

Cleaned the housing

OOF

It has some sticky brown stuff on the rubber and the PCB. I guess it must have been soda or something.

Cleaned the PCB and the rubber

Lubed the sliders and the stabelizers. The plate was hard to clean since removing the housing was a bit dangerous since the plastic was pretty old and brittle so i couldn't remove them to clean the plate fully. Housing/sliders also got a nice wash.

End result a very nice 91u with aged variable domes that are pretty nice to type on.

nice pickup mate, good price too

if you're willing, it is possible to restore the plate, however your plate's rust is significantly worse than what I encountered, so the pitting could be quite deep

I recently sanded down and repainted my 87u plate. The rust situation wasn't nearly as bad, but I saw a little bit creeping up in the corners where paint had rubbed away during manu.

Very happy with the final results. Pulling the slide housings off the plate was a pain, but I'd recommend it!

Thanks for the replies but, I haven't found any video on how to properly remove the housing from the plate with out snapping the tabs. I tried a bit with one but it felt like the tabs would break since the plastic feels pretty brittle.

I used the end of a cap puller (soft plastic no ticker than a guitar pick) and gentle pressure to push down one side of the housing. Slight pressure on the other side and bobs your uncle.

I didn't shave off any tabs, but I'm sure some aren't as pristine as before.

It's not very hard actually - if you look closely at the RF slider housings, they are held by small clips. Just compress carefully and wiggle them out. They'll come off.

Oh somehow thought he was talking about the brass inserts for the screws. Which would also get in the way of sanding and painting the plate quite a bit.

Couldn't pass on the HHKB Yuki Edition. I managed to grab one of the 25 keycap units that were made available in EU to boot.

I'll probably add some color if I can find something decent later on.

Check out the 89u! Its from the JIS layout specifically. When japan released their realforce r1, it came in 89u and 91u

I ordered 2 days ago a new black variable weight Realforce 87UB, and will do I think a stormtrooper version with my beige 87UW. Or I just wanted to get a black 87U when they are still available. A problem I have: I lost the 'Back Space' keycap on my 87UW :confused: or better my son >:D Getting a fullsize 104UW would be the only option now I guess to get that cap again? Wow, then it would be like an artisan keycap. I also wrote PFU, but they told me:

2013ish 104UB-DK (XF11R0). and yeah they're a light gray color- basically the equivalent of the beige mods but gray instead of beige.

white - dk gray - anni/pro gray

spacebar was starting to yellow a bit on my current set of alphas so finally just ponied up and bought a new one

THOCK THOCK THOOOOOCK! Sanded and painted my rusty RF87 plate, and added Deskeys #3 silencing rings. I think the kid between a Realforce 55g with its metal plate and HHKB with its layout would be the hottest kid in town. I didn't lube anything though, maybe with this model it is not needed, it is a butter thocky awesome sound and feeling.

Yeah, so many hhkb users - how do you guys handle arrow cluster position - it drove me nuts, couldn't get used to.

I prefer RF over HHKB (shots fired)

but I actually really liked the diamond arrow cluster orientation with the HHKB's FN layer. I used to program my 60s with my own arrow placement but started replicating the HHKB function layer layout after I got mine.

I will always prefer dedicated arrows, but I do find it very usable

Oh yeah, and I bought this thing to essentially give me all the keys the HHKB lacks in a dedicated cluster. I take these two around when I travel.

Decked it out with hipro to match even if the legends make it look ridiculous
