[IC] - KC 65% Gasket Mount
« on: Wed, 10 February 2021, 08:02:15 »
*UPDATE* down below

Hey keybpeople, Cody from Keybs Co here. I'm trying to gauge public interest for the keyboard I've been working on before going to the prototyping phase.

Imgur Album: https://imgur.com/gallery/f5Pa0Tt

Case Top: Anodized or E-white Aluminum
Case Bottom: Brushed or Polished Brass or Aluminum
PCB: ANSI Layout, Hotswap or Non-Hotswap (QMK/VIA Support)
Plate: Brass or Aluminum (possibly more options depending on feedback)
Daughterboard: USB Type-C (JST cable connecting daughter to mainboard)

GB is TBD. Depending on interest it will most likely be around 2 months out. Ship date would then be 6 months after GB ends, give or take.
The GB will be hosted on our website, with no limit on units. You will also have the option to select extra PCB's and Plates. Hopefully I didn't miss anything, please let me know if I did.

Thanks for reading! Looking forward to reading all of your feedback!

*UPDATE* I've closed the google form and we have our winners for additional colors and plate options! The additional colors will be a Navy/Dark Blue, Rose Gold, and a Dark Red/Burgundy. The additional plate options will be POM, Polycarb, and possibly FR4. Will update later on the FR4 when/if it's a guarantee. Thank you to everybody who took the time to fill out the form!

*UPDATE* 3/18/21
Hey everybody, prototypes have been ordered! My initial timeline has delayed but I'm doing my best to get to the GB date as soon as possible, while still having a high quality keyboard. We've ordered a polished aluminum bottom and a brushed brass bottom to give an idea of both finishes, along with an anodized black top and E-white top. We also ordered plates in each material other than FR4. FR4 unfortunately was not an option from this manufacturer, and others we found where it was available just couldn't justify the cost. We are open to continue looking if anyone knows of a place, or there is enough interest in it, just shoot us a message!

*UPDATE* 4/4/21
Small update. Realized I forgot to post pricing in the last update. As of now we're looking at an MOQ of 30 pieces per bottom piece (30 Brass bottom & 30 Aluminum bottom) and still no limit. With this MOQ were targeting a price point of $450 USD for the Aluminum bottom kit, and $550 USD for the Brass bottom kit.

*UPDATE* 5/21/21
Prototype cases have arrived! Here is the Imgur link for the full album, but I put a few up above. We are still waiting on the pcbs and cannot wait to make a proper build video to show these off. We ran into some issues that delayed groupbuy date, but we're hoping for around a month out. You can stay updated with everything going on through here or over on our Discord server

*UPDATE* 8/2/21
Hey everyone, I'm sorry there's been such a big gap between updates. I've been struggling with pcb testing, and I wanted to exhaust every resource before making a post on here. I'm in need of help with qmk/flashing. I'm currently at a stand still and not sure what to try next to get it to work properly. If you have experience and would like to offer help, I would really appreciate it! Please hit me up either on here or over on discord, and thank you in advance!

You have an interesting concept going for you looking at the bottom piece, but 1 post count, no prototypes. I'm skeptical to say the least.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I'll be posting a lot of updates whenever something happens. This was just the initial IC to gauge interest

That bottom is so different, I would recommend embedding some pics into your thread on here so people have easier access to them.

This will not be optional as the blocker is built into the top piece

I dont know what happened to the back. Normally, people would try to avoid what you did.

Wdym by MOQ of 30  and "No limit".    Normally, you want quotes for the amount of keyboards you're going to sell.  and I suggest capping the limit instead of making it an unlimited group buy.

Do you have a daughter board that would go with it. I'm having a treeleaf moment and I dont know how the usb port on the pcb would go in the bottom cutout

I'm not sure what you mean by what happened to the back. The minimum order quantity for us to place the order is 30 kits of brass and 30 kits of aluminum which is how we got it quoted and determined pricing. We didn't want to be too optimistic in our quoting but felt like that was an achievable number. The no limit aspect is us being optimistic and hoping for the best but the groupbuy will only be available for a set time ie 1 week, 2 weeks etc depending on feedback. Yes there will be a daughterboard

Is the top piece even tall enough to cover the keycaps? It might be the photos, but the inner wall does not look very tall. Ne built pictures avail?

It's nice to see more boards using the Bauer layout, but I'm personally not really a fan of the design beyond that. Also, those keycap renders are very very rough.
