I'd personally love to see this happen in SA. That's becoming my new favorite profile.

Form has been filled out.

In my notes, I suggested supporting the SmallFry 40% board. Details here, since it we be released in the next month or two. Perhaps you could combine it as a kit with the HHKB kit?

Just a thought.

edit: Trying to figure out the best way to make more layouts supported.
I want support for the following layouts:
Smallfry / 40%
60%
87-key ANSI
Numpad
Possibly ergodox

Check out the stripe concept in my Typewriter IC.  I think it's an easy way to make more accessible variant sets.  I stole the stripe idea from Bunnylake and built on it some.

And remember, you don't have to make everyone happy with the set.  If you did, it would be ungainly and expensive.....just don't change it to SA profile.

Nice looking set, I hope it takes off in the next try.

With a tsangan kit and hhkb kit would this be possible? http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/layouts/08cab4e18bedd84cfe291e2202b0d8cb

I like the left-side one too.  We might run into issues with SP's legend limitations though.  There are minimum legend width and minimum empty space requirements.

Alright everyone, I'm working on some summer assignments for school today and I have drivers ed next week so I may not have much time to work on the set until next weekend.

GreenTea R2 is going to have the following kits:

Smallfry/40% kit (contains both layouts for Smallfry board and some tea kanji winkeys)
60% kit (Contains keys for a 60% board, tea kanji winkeys, a capslock/ctrl swap set, and Pn/Fn keys for the Poker II)
TKL kit (Contains a TKL ANSI layout)
Numpad (Just a numpad)
Tsangan kit (7u spacebar, 1.5u ctrl/alt keys, 1u winkeys and tea kanji winkeys, 1.75u right shift)

I also need to make a menu key vector for the menu keys.

Still deciding whether to add the HHKB keys to the 60% kit or the tsangan kit.

Do the 60% and 40% kits include the alpha keys as well? The reason I ask is that I wouldn't want to buy the alphas twice and I would be interested in both a 60% and a 40%.

Just a thought, but it might be easier to just offer the TKL set as a base and then just include the special keys for the 60%, 40% and HHKB as a "Minimal" child set. Personally, I would buy the TKL, Minimal and Tsangan set to give me the flexibility to use them an any of my keyboards.

Yeah, each kit will be all the keys for a complete board. I don't want to run too many kits and I don't want the set to be too expensive for people who just want the keys for a 40% or 60%.

Yeah, each kit will be all the keys for a complete board.

That may be cause for fewer orders, depending on price. Knowing that I would be buying two complete sets, I don't know that I'll be getting a 40% and a 60%. I would probably choose one or the other.

That's why I like the stripe concept.  It allows you to buy fir your kit with minimal overlap.

should we have 4 keys in R1 for above the numberpad? even blanks will do the job just so we don't have to be stuck with using novelty keys. Anyhow I voted for SA, never tried one and wouldn't mind to try, plus they look thicker than the rest profiles sets

@numiru: Don't make full kits for 40%/60%/TKL , this is not a good approach, it will only split the orders and lower the chances to reach the MOQ.
From watching other GB's matt3o has the best approach.
1 set for ALPHA (where you can include also the 1u |\ key )
1 TKL modifiers set (that can be used also for 60%) (this includes F1-12, navigation, PG UP/DOWN etc, 1.25 on the bottom row with 6.25 space bar)
1 40% modifiers set
1 Numpad set including also a top row (for multimedia or something like that, have a look at Midnight for inspiration)
1 Tsangan ( 1.5 mods, 1u Win/Menu, 7x spacebar, Short 1.75u right shift, 1u FN, HHKB Style 1.5u backspace
1 ISO Kit (ISO Return, short left shift and the 2 extra keys, don't know what's on them, I'm not using ISO, but a lot of EU guys will love you for that ;)
And optional, I like this one the most, but that's me: Caps lock replacement kit : 1.75u Control for people who like the HHKB layout. You could include this one in TKL or TSANGAN
You could make an extra kit with some weird sized caps, I would not include them in other kits because it might raise the price too much.

The best thing is to try and get the best price for each kit, too many options increase the price and people don't buy it.

And would skip the blanks, some might get upset, but based on statistics blanks never hit MOQ (or only on rare occasions) and would only split the orders.

+1 for this

And if it's going to be DSA then one kit for Ergodox modifiers would be nice.

On DSA the standard font is nice, I like it. It's like on Dolch DSA or Macross Skull Squadron.
Any other font would cost $4000 custom legend fee, only a large scale GB could cover that.

Just got an email from Melissa. They can't do cherry legends on DSA caps unless we manage to raise $4500 :(
Any ideas on a nice font for this set?

Then go with SA as I filled out your form accordingly  8)

Can't have enough perfection here especially when it comes to the fantastic SA profile, but if you decide to go GMK then that would be another epic story.......

I would love to do cherry profile but I already promised SP that I would run GreenTea through them. They also already have all the marketing materials ready for the set. Depending on how successful the 2nd round is I may consider doing a 3rd round through GMK, but I would need Ivanovich's help in order to do this. He offered to have the alphas as an extension for the Dolch set which would work nicely.

I've always been a fan of the green/grey with white legends. So I'm definitely down with the set after the proposed changes. My personal colorway is actually the opposite (green modifiers with grey alphas) as that's what I currently have on my Topre board. But I was also limited by the RF 10th anniversary mods as they're in blue and only the alphas are grey.

For an MX set this looks great.

If Ivan comes out with a full GMK green/white mods set, I'm going to start throwing cash at my computer screen.

What's wrong with DCS exactly?  Apart from Elrick not liking it I mean.  It's very close to Cherry profile.

Current zeitgeist is to hate on DCS. You can't be one of the cool kids if you even deign to acknowledge that DCS could be remotely acceptable.

I thought DCS was more like OEM profile (taller keycaps)? If not then that would be fantastic!

No, DCS is almost exactly the same height as Cherry/GMK. Except for a slightly more angular bottom row. But in any case not nearly as tall as most OEM.

In this guy's opinion, DSA are terrible for typing on. They might be okay for a POS keyboard, where you are only typing one key at a time, as in hitting a certain key for a certain item sold.

Wow that's great to hear! I want to run it in DCS profile, but I'm afraid that people may not want to buy the set if it's not DSA... Seems to be "trendy" right now.

Just as a perspective thing - DCS just isn't an option for everyone.

Ergodox/dvorak/colemak are all going to have problems / not work with it. DSA or SA r3 are pretty much the best options there.

Personally, I use DSA on everything - I don't really like the extra height of SA, and I have to have a profile capable of doing Dvorak. I am probably not a prospective buyer though, just wanting to point out the benefits of non-DCS.

That's just incorrect. I have seen several ErgoDoxen with DCS profile keycaps on them. You don't need crappy uniform profile keycaps on the ErgoDox or other keyboard, just because you might use a different layout than qwerty. I would think that using "flat" rows, in contrast to "contoured" rows would be the antithesis of ergonomic. A few extra keys in a "Dvorak/Colemak" kit could solve the wrong-row-profile issue. But in order to cater to a vocal minority who are using non-standard layouts or keyboards, the vast majority of buyers in a group buy are forced to submit to their will.

And the poll showing a huge margin in favor of DSA is flawed by a too small sample size. Most people who would be prospective buyers of a group buy set won't bother to vote in the IC, and thus you have the small, but vocal, minority setting the parameters.

Or, people are simply misinformed. They may think that DSA = PBT, which they have heard is better than ABS, so it must be so. For whatever the reason, there exists currently on Geekhack a "group mind" that believes that: 1. Ergo Clears are the only MX switches worth using, 2. PBT is superior in every way to ABS, and 3. DCS profile keycaps are terrible. None of these is true. All these are very subjective, and one can only decide what they like best by actually trying them, and ignoring the current "hype" when making their decision.

I used the so called Cherry (and later DCS) profile keys for decades. I pretty much prefer DSA, lowers the profile of the whole board. I don't think there's any objective advantage to "sculptured" caps, it's all in your mind :P BTW, Cherry did DSA way back when (AFAIK they are still available too !) and I still have my 1st keyboard from the late 80's in storage (halfway around the world..) w/ uni-profile SA caps (and serial interface.)

Oh yeah, having uniform profile is definitely not a new thing. Companies have been doing things wrong for a long time. ;)

In my opinion this set looks the best in DCS profile with Cherry legends, it has a classic look, maybe the color scheme has something to do with that. This scheme will look great in any other profile, but it will loose the fine Cherry legends, I didn't knew that those were not available in DSA profile when I placed my vote.
What I want to see is this set become a reality, so important is to have the profile that will draw more buyers. Unfortunately it is impossible to make everybody happy, this is the reality.

As for the debate which profile is the best .... this will never end so we should not start all over again in this thread.

I definitely love this color scheme, but I am not too thrilled with the look of the legends. If we stick with DCS, can we have legends more similar to the DSA sets such as Retro and Granite? I like to have simple-looking modifier keys. I would be completely down for a set symbol modifier keys similar Granite as well.

Alright everyone, I just finished drivers ed so I can get back to work on this set.
As of right now, there are 6 sets that you will be able to buy:

Base (Green keys)
Smallfry mods (For both layouts)
60% mods (With HHKB kit)
87% mods
Tsangan kit
Numpad

You can see mockups of these kits here!

I've got the illustrator files done for all of these kits, I just need to make sure the tea kanji legend will be possible with SP's manufacturing processes and see if there are any adjustments that need to be made.

Hey, I love how the set developed, it's just wicked cool :thumb:
This will look amazing in real life, I think you nailed it. Now you have to make sure that no other full set GB is running at the same time and I'm sure is a winner.
As far as I know, the Nuclear set is scheduled to be launched soon, I don't know about midnight, but I'd say if you launch it in ~1 month it would be ok.
After a SA set people will be interested in a cool DCS ;) And also my wallet will recover  :thumb:

I was way on holiday and missed the form for this IC! I really want this set! I think it's set to become a classic colourway, something like Dolch. Very calming and understated while still not bland or boring. Love it.

I'm happy with DCS, but would totally LOVE GMK Cherry thick doubleshots.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Yes! Loving this set. Glad to see it in DCS

It was always DCS to begin with......  just go check the postponed section of the "Green Tea Set" at PMK.  Where do these people come from for Christ sake  ??? ?

Thank you for the info.
But why all the lip?

It's okay.

He comes from the land down under, where women glow and men plunder...

Just smile and give him a Vegemite sandwich  ;)

It's hard to find the best timing for launching this, but the first attempt did come at a bad time, with so many other good sets launched just before, so people didn't have much left for new sets after ordering the others. For instance, I had just ordered Ivan's GMK Dolch and my wallet was still in shock.

This set is too good to give up on, and I reckon it'll reach MOQ next time round. It's looking really complete and ready for launch now and I think the timing is okay. Or wait until after the Nuclear set GB is complete?

This will be my third DCS set with Cherry legends :D

I'd say let's wait till after the Nuclear GB, otherwise the 2 of them would cannibalize each other  >:D Also August is not a good time, a lot of people is up on holidays, mid September sounds like a good plan (hearing the voice of my wallet :P ) ;)

It failed already as dcs, you put up a poll, and only 15% voted for dcs - what have you changed so dramatically that will make it not fail this time? O.o

Hi everyone! Just checking in for an update. GreenTea R2 will launch after the Nuclear set GB runs. (Hopefully in about a month.)
Still finalizing the files, I want to make sure everything's perfect. I added a 7x spacebar to the 60% kit to support the GH60/Duck Viper/KMAC Happy HHKB layout. I also added a row-1 delete key to the SmallFry kit for the 'alternate 'layout. I'm working on an ISO kit also and still trying to decide whether to make a new kit for ISO or add it to Tsangan.

@numiru: maybe it would be a good idea to ask SP for an estimate on the prices for each kit. This way people can prepare in time and have some money reserved for this GB. I think it would increase the chances for success ;)
I love how this set evolved and it will be a cool one :D

IC has been submitted to PMK's new interest check feature. The interest check will be up soon and it will go on until the group buy runs (after Nuclear finishes). Anyone have an idea of when Nuclear is supposed to go up?

I agree with this. Keep it in the mods kits.

I like how you've designed the kits, although you may get more sales combining the 60% and TKL kits. More numbers on a single larger kit often equals lower price due to hitting a higher tier, instead of dividing the numbers between smaller kits that share a number of keycaps. It'll also make the kit more universal. I'm in for a base and 60% :)

+1 I think that one kit for 60% and TKL would increase the chances of hitting the MOQ, even if I am a 60% user I don't mind buying some extra keys ;)

This is something I would love to happen, I really don't want to have to buy two separate kits for the 60 and tkl. If they were combined I'm 99.9999% in.

Include the HHKB in the tsangan kit, I guess would balance the prices. I'm afraid that orders will split between the 2 kits and not hit MOQ.

Countdown to the launch of the set

I've noticed a lot of new users making their own keycap designs recently on PMK... I'm hoping nothing will launch during GreenTea and cannibalize the set. I understand matt3o's situation during Midnight more now.

Hope the same, in the same interval Pulse GB I think will be running, but that one is in SA so it should be OK.
For the lenght of the GB make sure you get the maximum of days, I think is ~30

Going to try to get this as well.  One thing I am looking at though is we don't have a 1.25 ~` key and 1U control key on this.  for those of us with ergodox's if we wanted to place it on there those would be the only things missing.  candidly though I don't think the color sequence will go well with the massdrop colors (mostly buying for the RS II if/when we get the gb for it, but more options the better)

With anyone with that idea as well:
1.25 shift from ISO, 1u alt/win & 1.25 caps from tsangan/HHKB, and the rest is more or less already there.  keep in mind that no button will match for space in that regard and the numberpad enter fits just right for the larger keys, as does backspace.

I added that extra key to the SmallFry layout because there aren't that many keys in it, and that way more people with the desire to have different layouts on that board will be able to. Unfortunately, adding some extra keys isn't something I can do to support EVERY keyboard that exists. I'm gonna have to go with a no on this one. Sorry!

Also, do you guys/gals think I should make the MOQ 25 or 50?

Any chance you can add a 1u Control key? I plan to use the 2 1u keys on the bottom row of the Smallfry for Ctrl and Alt. Thanks.

A green GH key would be a cool add on if possible, not sure what kit it would go in.

This set looks awesome. I hate the fact that I won't be able to use it on my Pure Pro, so I'll have to buy the set AND a new keyboard  ;D

I would have loved a 2u shift, but I don't think there would be enough interest for it to be added to a modifier set.

Why would you do this to me SlotH42? I thought we were bros?  ;)

I'm just kidding, I'm probably buying this set regardless, but a GH key makes it mandatory that I buy one.

adding some extra keys isn't something I can do to support EVERY keyboard that exists. I'm gonna have to go with a no on this one. Sorry!

Fully understandable - and thanks!

Hey everyone, just checking in. GH key is done, I'll include it with the alphas. Should I go with gray or green? They both look nice.

I'd vote for both.  ;D

Most sets that include GH keys have them in both colors if there are contrasting modifiers.

Hi everyone! I've been really busy recently with school, so sorry about the delay. Album has been updated to include the new GH keys.

Side note: are there too many keys in the mods kit? I feel like I'm driving up the price...

Pretty nice job numiru. However, I gotta ask.

Did you contact SP already regarding the Chinese symbol keycap?

You'll have to work a little bit on it, if you're going doubleshot.

"On any 2-shot legend, there needs to be a minimum space of 0.020" to 0.035", depending on the cutter thickness (line thickness) between characters and lines and also on islands. Note that this does not mean there will be 0.020" of space between the characters when molded."

Awesome! Can't wait to get this set :D. But I was wondering if there were any possibility in providing blank modifiers as separate keys to buy (like in the nuclear data GB). Hopefully this suggestion isn't too late, because I'd love to get a few blank modifiers to match with my other sets.

So sad. :(

This is running in the same time frame as PuLSE, and I can only afford one or the other. Already placed my order for PuLSE. I wish this had started two or three weeks later. :(

Hello, I was wondering if the modifiers were going to be split into two different sets for TKL and 60% boards? Or are all the modifiers just grouped into one kit? Super excited about this set, thanks for all your hard work numiru!
