Title: Lol Newb here..bought my Steelseries 7G keyboard a week ago, keys ALREADY fading!
Post by: Russ369 on Sat, 10 December 2011, 00:32:12
Hi guys im new...

I just bought my Steelseries 7G keyboard and its great, first mechanical keyboard i've owned... Only problem is, after using it for about a week I noticed that the white paint off the letters is kind of fading to this greyish color... I read that this happens quite
often so im just wondering where might I purchase some key caps (full set) that won't fade... Preferably a site that ships to Canada

Thanks :)

If want forever no fade, you have 3 options:
1. Doubleshots, it will only fade after you completely wore off the keycaps(which will take at least hundred years of use...)
2. Dye-sub, similar to doubleshots but as it is PBT keycaps, it will took you even a longer time to wear off the keycaps and fonts.
3. Black engraved keycaps, basically there is nothing for you to wear off on them.

BTW, try contact imsto if he got any lasered PBT keycaps replacement for you.

Black and white engraved keys. They are very hard to wear down. I'm not sure what the shipping will be to Canada. Hopefully not much.

if you want an exact fit for your 7g your going to have to pm qtan and have him get a fully compatible set off of taobao.

You can generally find him roaming your local forest late at night, make sure you don't bring a flashlight as they tend to scare him off.

make sure you wear protection, when scared he tends to bite.

He won't harm you, but if the moon is full, he might.

Fading in one week. Is that even possible.
Can you return it?

Technically it's not fading, just staining.

See the Key Ref Wiki above under Steelseries for 6 examples of this.  I just made this one the 7th.

Is there a way I can un-stain it? :(

Wouldnt that just take off the white paint as well?

edit: nvm I tried and it didnt do anything... Sucks you would expect an expensive keyboard like this it would be coated with something...
