JT Keycaps Debut GB presented by [CTRL]ALT - shipped
« on: Tue, 05 May 2015, 10:51:48 »
hey guys

delighted to be able to finally open up this gb

i have been working closely with JT Keycaps for some time now, collaborating on this

this will be our initial offering

double shot abs cherry profile

$58 or $73 with mx compatible topre pom sliders

$30

$53 or $68 with mx compatible topre pom sliders

JT Keycaps is completely new, and these are the debut sets, as with anything new, it needs a starting point, we have put a huge amount of time in to testing these, but they will only get better over time, however please be aware, as this is the first large scale production run, there can be some slight errors, or things we may change at a later date, but every cap will have very strict quality control

here are some pictures of the actual caps offered in both sets

i will post a lot more pictures in this post shortly once i have time to get things set up here

additionally, the first order will get a [CTRL]ALT tshirt

the first 100 orders will also get one of these

this gb will be open for 4 weeks from today, once the gb is complete, the turnaround time will be fairly short compared to a normal gb, approximately 3-4 weeks, for future buys, this time will get much shorter, however as this is the first one, itll have very strict QC and a bit of a learning curve that will be streamlined later

shipping will be

$7.50 US
$18 international

if you would like to make a large order, please contact me before ordering via the site

please keep this thread on topic, and if you have any queries please feel free to pm me

you can place your order here:

https://ctrlalt.io/buys/jtk-debut

payments are taken via stripe (debit or credit card)

if you are unable to pay via stripe, please place an order on the site, leave the order as unpaid, and either pm me or use the contact form on the site, giving me the order number and a paypal email (please note, if you pay via paypal, additional paypal fees will be added)

That's really interesting, is it known how these caps feel to type on in comparison to caps from GMK, or standard PBT keycaps?

im typing on them now, and to me they feel the same as gmk

we are using the same purple abs as gmk use, as well as thickness,  so you should notice very little difference if anything at all

im waiting on the options, once i have them i can either make a note on peoples order as to a specific colour they want, or alternatively give people a random one if they dont pick

It makes me so sad that international shipping is almost double the US one, but I will buy a purple set and spacebars anyway because this is too awesome  :thumb:

If this has been discussed already, I have overlooked it, but is the "CA white" on the purple sets actually a sort of a cream off-white color?  Looks like it judging by the photograph of the samples, but I want to make sure it's not just the lighting.

the pics are pretty accurate on my screen, but it hasnt been calibrated in a while, i certainly wouldnt say they are cream, but its a milky white

they are like novatouch sliders yes

although its doesnt take any modding to install them, you just pop the old ones out, and the new ones in

Second this. I'd gladly put in an order if they would be willing to sell the sliders separately. I'm not all that interested in the keyset tbh since it isn't the colors that I like on a board. But I would damn near be the first person to put in a order if you guys offered the sliders separately.

Also are there any pictures of the sliders themselves that you could post Bunny?

Wow, these look great! I'll be in for a couple sets.

It's really exciting to have a new player in the keycap manufacturing field. I'm interested in learning more about JT Keycaps in general.
Where are they based?
Do they do this type of manufacturing (injection molding) for other industries?
How are they able to keep costs this low?

You might as well pick up a set, even if you don't fancy the colours, I'm sure you would have an easy time selling them after the GB and just keep some sliders.

You don't need stabilizers. The only stabilized key is the space bar.

So what is JT Keycaps, anyway?  This is the first set they've done, right?  Where did they come from?  These look like direct Cherry replicas, including the Cherry logo.  Do they have the same equipment as GMK?  Are the designs licensed?  Do the profiles match Cherry exactly?  Also, what is the significance of the anchor and star logos?  So many questions.

no

but topre boards only have stabs on the space bar

later down the roaqd we are looking in to making a 6 u spacebar with an mx stem but tope stab mounting points

as for selling the sliders separately, that was originally part of the plan for this buy, however, they are really only being made so people can enjoy these sets on topre boards as well as mx, so we wanted to give people in on this buy first shot at them, but a while down the road they will be available on their own

But these caps have stems where "stabilized" topre caps do not, correct?  (I don't have a topre board in front of me right now)  How would we handle this?  This might be a bit naive, as it may be similar to what people have done with the Novatouch sliders, but I'd like to know what the recommended method here is.   :thumb:

so the stems on the side of the mod caps that would normally have stabs on an mx board dont have any clearance issues on a topre board

jt keycaps is a friend of mine who ive been working with on this, he is based out of china and someone ive worked with on many things before, they are cherry replicas by way of profile, however the tooling is very different as you can see from the pics, there are other subtle differences, rather than a direct copy, over time both profile and font selection will grow

with regards particularly to the cherry comment, the goal is to make caps of a similar quality to gmk, but be able to be much more flexible with options (custom legends, colours etc) so not to replace what they do, as there is always a market for that, but to be able to merge the best parts of gmk/cherry, with some of the flexibility of something like sp

the anchor and star logos arent particularly significant, other than showing we are doing custom legends, we have to start somewhere, and those were what was chosen, as we continue with these buys, the options we have for keys and various legends will grow

starting up something like this takes a huge amount of time and money, so we cant necessarily launch with everything we want at one time, but as some of the initial costs are recouped, more can be invested to grow the sets and options

Neat.  I like that there's new blood in the keycaps market and that they're so willing to work directly with the enthusiast/hobby community.  I want to see where this goes so I'll probably pick up a WoB set.

So, one of the mai  issues with making these sliders work with topre boards is the lack of stabilizers and a 6u spacebar. Is that correct?
