In general 1800 models are probably most common with blacks. 1813 have blues, 1838 and 186* have browns. It's also possible to get 186* model with reds and 1800 with clears though they are considerably harder to find.
1865 has reds and 1824 has clears..right?
i've no idea what other 1800 keyboard has clears

This has been my daily driver for most of three years. A little dirty. Some keys are getting a little shiny.
I prefer the Dolch case over Cherry's because it is flatter.

I suppose you could always mod one to have clears.

1800HQU I see on taobao now and then. Usually with beige though, black is kind of unusual.

nice board, glad you got an 1800 at last!

and that is actually quite the interesting frakenstein board as the 1819's are pretty rare and I have never seen a black one of them. So your caps likely came from the g81-1800HQUAS

Finally some more pictures of and details about the scitex 1824 HAU

It is quite the beautiful board, and I am thankful tinlong sold it to me :)
The keys are pretty much unused, but some are scratched and the case is especially scratched. So it looks like it just moved around on a shelf for its whole life.

Show Image

Show Image

The color of all the keys & case is the same dark gray color from a dolch keyboard
Show Image

And yes the Blue F1-F8 keys are double shot
Show Image

Inside & outside labels match with G80-1824HAU.
The "A" part of the model name doesn't match, as per the wiki it should have black switches & DIN cable.
It actually has clear switches & ps2 cable.....so its either another Cherry model number mystery or it was modded by someone at some point in its life
Show Image

Btw, all scitex 1800 come with clear switches.

P.S. There's a scitex 1824 HCU selling in Taobao at thsi moment.

I see some G80 1800 listed on Amazon.de that are supposed to be using a light grey switch?

this
G80-1800LPCEU-0

Does anyone know if they're dark greys or greys?
Also with the exception of the Raptor K1, all 1800s are 2KRO right?

Sorry to hijack the thread  :-X

That should use black switches as indicated by the P in LPCEU
And yes, all regular 18xx keyboards are 2KRO

I'm considering once the designs for my TKL/60%/1800 are complete, I want to do something different besides the normal acrylic case GB.

A GB where we can have funky cases made, eg, the school bus case, maybe a pikachu case.

We can have maybe 4-5 designs in different form factors, because I see there are many members with families and young children here on GH, and I know for a fact that you want to treat them with awesome keyboards, and thus these colorful funky cases.

Agreed - please allow me to relieve you of the onerous burden of owning that Clack so that you can return the keyboard to its intended state.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Well, to be honest, it's much more beautiful without keycaps at all ;)

The clack ruins the board.

I knew someone would say this!

and I agree with Broadmonkey that it looks even better without keycaps. kinda hard to type on though

Dont know why, but I always end up using this keyboard somehow.
I like it a lot and I cant imagine how great it can turn out with some modifications like you guys have done. Very nice guys. :)

My first mechanical keyboard arrived today finally. For 10€ there is nothing to complain about and I´m already loving the layout  :thumb:
It features black MX switches and it is to early to tell if Ill stick to it. What is this grey spacebar switch all about? Never read about "grey" MX switches anyway.

I would really appreciate if somebody could give me a hind where Ill could find cheap blank alpha caps shipping to germany. Banggood is still the cheapest vendor...

Cherry always has a stiffer switch for the spacebar than the other keys, so that is what linear gray spacebar switch is for

good luck on getting a complete set of blank keys to fit the entire 1800 layout though as they don't exist...or do they:
