Sexy sexy board. Hope we can have an EU vendor

I would guess there will be vendors for all of the major regions.

This would be great!

Q: Split space support / ISO?

How did this plan out? Is there going to be split spacebar support?

Regarding split space and ISO support, I will likely aim to include these features on the PCB, without including native compat. for these in the included plates. However, if this is the case I will also release plate files after fulfillment.

Hi folks

I expect for there to be vendors for most major regions. I'll be adding regional vendors to the main post when I've confirmed with them.

Since I'm bumping anyway, here's a build stream of an earlier run of Moment! Big thanks to lulzthax for sharing the VOD. However, this uses an alternate PCB (Moment is compatible with many universal 60% JST PCBs) as well as features some finishes that won't be offered in the GB.

Thanks.

Hello,

Currently awaiting prototypes from the new manufacturer before confirming a GB date, but the estimate is (and still is) late May. If anything is rescheduled I will definitely update here. Thanks for checking in.

Unfortunately, prototypes are taking a bit longer to arrive from the manufacturer due to COVID delays and lockdowns. As a result, I've changed the projected GB date to a general Q2 2022 - hopefully we can narrow it down to June 2022 if things pan out well.

Thanks all.

Yes - probably the best anodization I've seen, but they made some mistakes in machining. So I'm working to resolve that with them (and ensure they're able to produce the board perfectly) before proceeding.

Took delivery of a prototype that meets my requirements for production. That being said, the lead vendor and I are currently now waiting on delivery of a final round from an alternate supplier to really solidify our decision. I'm expecting we may be able to set a final group buy date window that begins within the next month or two. Next update should have a lot more concrete details.

Looks like we're getting this ball rolling!

Moment is anticipated to be available for group buy between October 1st - October 14th.

The vendor list and unit counts are as follows:

  • US: Cannonkeys (400 available)
  • CA: Deskhero (70 available)
  • EU: Mykeyboard.eu (70 available)
  • UK: Prototypist (30 available)
  • AS: ILUMKB (210 available)
  • AU: Switchkeys (70 available)

More details and final pricing to follow. Sale formats, region locks, etc. will be determined individually by respective vendors.

Howdy sir, I don't want to get into any specifics about speculation on pricing, but there is a really big miscalculation in your estimate - I can confidently say that even if this group buy performs exceptionally (which is not a guaranteed bet with the current state of the keyboard market), the number you've reached is several multiples way too high. Just wanted to address the comment vaguely, so folks won't feel they are paying an unfair price.

This project was delayed for about half a year as I wanted to try to lower the cost to be within reason for the current market conditions and had to sample multiple manufacturing options. I hope folks will be pleased with the quality and design - I was pretty picky on selecting a supplier :-)

On another note, Cannonkeys has now launched a "Coming Soon" page for MOMENT - check it out: https://cannonkeys.com/products/moment-coming-soon

« Reply #188 on: Tue, 27 September 2022, 02:25:19 »
Hello everyone!

Some announcements and updates on the upcoming buy beginning this Saturday.

0. To reiterate, the sale will be opening at Cannonkeys this Saturday, 11AM ET. Check with your vendors for more specifics on their sales! IMO, the best place to get instant information for this would be vendor Discord servers (list below). I will be updating this thread when I have the confirmed times for all regions.

In the meantime, I'd suggest keeping up to date or directing vendor-specific questions to the following:

1. Because the full polypropylene plate was a core element to the original run of Moment, Cannonkeys and other participating vendors will be adding the option for buyers to upgrade the base kit's plate option from FR4 to full polypropylene. This way, full PP enjoyers will not have to pay for a whole extra plate and leave the FR4 plate to waste, instead just opting for the upgrade. Please check with your designated regional vendors for the specifics on this.

2. Due to a slight delay in latest prototype units arriving, in addition to prior-planned scheduling, build streams (alexotos, LightningKeyboards, Lulzthax) will be most likely be coming during the first week of the buy (Oct 1 - Oct 7). This means there will not be the typical array of content leading up to the sale date. To look at it with a glass half full, that basically guarantees anyone that has been following this project for a while and is interested in picking one up will get their board! That being said, there's a ton of media for this board online (thanks to that R0 run!): https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=moment+jjw

3. To clarify, the hotswap PCB is a fixed layout. Tsangan bottom row, split right shift, split backspace, full caps. Solder PCB is Tsangan bottom row, options for split right shift, split/full backspace, stepped/full caps. Plates are similar - ISO users, split space users, etc. should have custom plates cut later on. These layouts are not supported by the stock PCB, but Moment is fully compatible with PCBs like the Wilba WT-60 (with JST), and Hineybush H60 (default JST position). Plate files WILL be released closer to fulfillment date.

4. Here's a quick shot of the two colored prototypes I recently got in-hand.

I personally am a huge fan of the full polypropylene - it feels the most well-rounded of all the plate options IMO (totally subjective).

I don't have all of these plates built to directly compare, but I'd say my memory of each plate is pretty strong.

PP is a bit more dampened in reverb - sound is "tighter" compared to polycarbonate. Polycarbonate has some lingering mid notes that sound a little deeper and more plasticky (which some like). Feel wise, I'd also make a similar comparison but not nearly as noticeable to me.

I haven't tried POM on this board - I find POM to be too muted and quiet most of the time.

I love the side profile of this keyboard, but I wish the bottom weight could've been a screwless design.

Does the base kit come with the Gasket Kit and Dampening Kit or do I need to purchase them separately?

The bottom weight is screwed in last because it serves to hide the screws on the rear-angled edge of the board. If the weight is screwed in internally, then there would be no way to screw the top case and bottom case together without doing a screwless design (which I typically don't find worth the headache in use with the downsides it usually presents, and I personally like the look of screws on the bottom haha).

That being said, the gasket strips are included in the kit, but the dampening kit is a separate addon (case foam, plate foam, and pcb foam).

Wait, disregard previous post. What happened to 1st October? I don't see any links anywhere, checked a couple vendors like MyKeyboard and nothing on their GB sites either

That being said, the gasket strips are included in the kit, but the dampening kit is a separate addon (case foam, plate foam, and pcb foam).

That's good to know.  Is there a sound test available with all of the dampening foams installed?  It seems like none of the sound tests linked in the thread utilized foams and am curious how it'd sound.  Thanks!
