Looking for a new Pointing Stick/Trackpoint Module Retailer
« on: Fri, 25 April 2014, 20:53:41 »
I am looking for a retailer/distributor for new pointing sticks/trackpoint modules.  So far I have found only officially found:  http://sprintek.com/products/SK8702.aspx

They want approximately $50 shipped for their module ($29 module, $15 handling, $8 shipping from Cali to MD).  For that price I could buy a new Lenovo TrackPoint keyboard and have it shipped direct from Lenovo:  http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?redir=y&GroupID=460&Code=55Y9003&category-id=3FB2CEB78A0F49D18148731559AF4603&redir=y

Anyone else know of a more reasonable option besides cannibalizing a used TrackPoint off EBAY?

I've found several threads here but I've not seen a good answer.  If anyone else is interested in the Sprintek I could try to arrange a group buy to get the price down.  Let me know.

It seems TEX Yoda uses FlexPoint SK8702 or SK8703 from Sprintek.

I ripped one module from a used thinkpad R40 keyboard, with less than $5.

If you only need a few, get one from a dead thinkpad (keyboard) is the easiest/cheapest way.

Of course if you insist on getting new modules, maybe sprintek is the only way to go.

I am looking for a retailer/distributor for new pointing sticks/trackpoint modules.

I have 40 brand NEW TrackPoints. I am in the UK, so PM me with a price that you think is reasonable.
Here is an Photo Album.  You can have them without the ribbon cable attached.

Thanks for all the Private Messages requesting Track Point modules.
Can I ask that you guys also include a postal address, so that I can do the shipping quotes quickly.
I am not a business, just a hobbyist like most of the people here.  I got tired of buying lots of different old laptops on Ebay & ripping out the Trackpoint modules, So
when the opportunity to buy a brand new batch came, I bought them all.  I have about 30 modules left (including the complete keyboards if needs be).

The TrackPoint modules are packed in anti static foam, and then packed in non crushable plastic boxes.
Shipping options include, signature on delivery, full tracking etc... So just send me your Postal address, and I can send you all the shipping quotes.

Example code & Libraries are also including that have been tested on Arduino AtMega32u4 (Leonardos etc...), and Teensy 3.1, I can provide wiring diagrams, and also specify LLC (Logic Level Converters that I have tested them with, if you are using 3v3 controllers).

Once I sell the batch I have, If there is enough interest, I will try to secure more modules.  I just love the TrackPoints, there are really no other options, (I have tried about 5 different alternatives, but these are the best by far).

Best Regards,
:o)

I bought two modules from the following: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/ThinkPad-TrackPoint-Red-Cap-Mouse-Pointer_62315777485.html
More
The module is not like a picture in the page but the module in the video on the page. The smaller module is soldered on the board with Elan EM78F611 USB MCU.
It works like a standard mouse.
One of two is broken and when I push the bar to the left, the pointer moves up and then move left a bit. When I push the bar, strange noise is came from the neck of the bar. It looks the base of the bar is not well fixed on the PCB.
Another module is works well.
Diameter of the center bar is 2.5 mm, height is 6 mm from the top of the PCB.
The module does not have any screw holes on the board so its hard to fix in the keyboard. You need another USB connector.
