Is that a Chinese keyboard? I mean a keyboard that outputs Chinese

It's a Japanese Kanji keyboard with many borrowed Chinese characters!

Hey guys,

Two years ago when I started this hobby, I found this photo in the old family album and I was determined to find the keyboard within the pictures but couldn't figure it out. So I was asking around and later got information that it called "Datacomp DFK101". So my hunt has begin, trying to find this Datacomp thingy.

Three months ago, I started asking "6664 Mech Keyboard Mod" (A Thai keyboard modder, you can find him on facebook) to help me find and restore this Datacomp DFK101. He happens to have the case laying around in his backyard. He calling up some people to hunting for PCB and vintage black coil so he can put this back for me. It has blue Alps switches and I love the feel and sound of the blue! What do you think? :)

Sorry for my English

That's awesome you could find this from your childhood. Hardware always means so much more when there is a personal story attached to it.

That's such a great story.  :)  I'm so glad you were able to track that keyboard down and recreate the memory.  Like noisyturtle said, the personal/nostalgic aspect of hardware is always most meaningful.

Here's an oddity (already posted about it a long time ago but not in the "Post your ALPS keyboard" thread)...

It's a split keyboard using white ALPS, called the "SmartBoard" and made by a company called "Darwin Keyboards Ltd.". I've got serial number 7LAD000515 on it. I received that board directly from that company (when I was living in the US in 1998 IIRC).

It has non-staggered keys, a somehow a bit weird layout and very nice and shiny LEDs for the "Caps Lock" and "Num Scroll" keys.

I took a shot with a keycap removed so you can see that it's white ALPS.

Bored during this lockdown I just tried it and it still working!

240124-1

BTW keys are not doubleshot and I don't know: are there doubleshot keys for ALPS boards?
