What usually comes out during CES? Should I wait to build a computer?

I just bought my first computer build and finally got everything (most of which was from micro center 3 hours away).

I have 1 week left to return everything but...

Does CES come out with new processors and GPU frequently. Should I expect prices to drop dramatically on my ryzen 5 2600 and rx580 i.e. should I hold off on building everything so I can return it and get something better for the price?

Ryzen 3 is going to be announced but the launch date will probably be a couple months away most likely, and the RX580 is technically an older design anyways so that may be worth looking into but won't be as cheap.

If RX580 does what you need it to do,  then that's ok..

But I'm still not sold on the ryzen platform if you're going to be playing games..

for example, an 8700k can overclock to single thread performance ~3000 passmark

ryzen 2600 fully overclocked can maybe push 2200-2300 passmark



This results in a huge difference (for games)  especially competition set games like CSGO.


Ryzen can maybe eek out 200-350 fps csgo,  while 8700k can push nearly 400-600

I dont think waiting a few months and delaying a build would be worth it in that case. Is it my understanding that prices should be pretty stable until the new hardware is actually out and on sale?

Great points. The rig will be used for video editing and light gaming. I think the only games I will be playing are CS:Go and Dota2.

Price tiers, are for a Young-Person whose parents would never buy them something in excess of X-Value..

But if it's your money,  it makes more sense to just Eat Ramen - Wait - Eat m0ar Ramen - Save Bux - and buy the better performance to price ratio, EVEN if it costs more.



For AMD, it's a better value if you're adding up TOTAL Cpu performance, which includes multicore scores..

But at 1000, the multicore score isn't that much higher for amd vs intel.

Whereas at $2000,  the multicore score for Amd is WAY higher.



Finally, it comes down to , WILL that multicore performance ACTUALLY speed up what you do appreciably..


For example, You're rendering a video, it will take 5 hours on intel,  4 hours on AMD, 

Yea that's faster,  but if you were going to wait 4 hours,  you could wait 5..  something you leave on over night as you sleep


Whereas with the Intel's faster single core performance, All real time activities will be accelerated and smoother.

I realize I could have got cheaper ram but wanted RGB. Also wanted to stick with name brand for SSD and harddrives

Also the MOBO came with a package deal with the chip from Micro Center. Ended up being only $30 bucks IIRC after the $30 off and discount from bundle deal.

My total with tax was around $850 IIRC.

That is actually a great price seeing as when I bought my tridentz black and white 16Gb 3200 ram earlier in 2018 it cost ~$220(now it is ~$130), and RGB was much more expensive, you got a great deal. Plus TridentZ is really good ram, so you have no reason to regret even a penny spent.
