I'm here, party starts now
« on: Tue, 21 May 2013, 09:52:33 »
Hello GH,
joined this platform a few months ago when I discovered the topic of mechanical keyboards. By now, it has become a real obsession. I spend quite some time looking out for bargains on ebay everyday and have about 10 mechanicals here now, mostly Cherry, one AEK2 with USB adapter, a QPAD Mk50 with browns, and an old vintage Future Technologie keyboard from around 1984 with prototype blacks.
Well, boasting is done, let's move on: My name is Niklas, I'm 20 years old and from Germany. Love tinkering on my PC and also pushing it to the limits. If anyone ever heard of extreme overclocking, that's what I'm doing (you know, cooling your CPU with liquid nitrogen, dry ice, and I also own a single stage phase change cooling). Pics wanted? :D

Feel free to ask me anything, so long

Looks like your Model F in your avatar needs some Retr0Brite.

Retr0brite is something you can mix up on your own. It's primarily hydrogen peroxide. The site that people usually link is this one but I'm sure Google and GH will have more info as well.

Looks good, will give it a closer look later.
Btw, to that Model F, don't they usually have buckling springs? My one does have Cherry MX Blacks, and two different MX Whites underneath space and enter (the space one is at least 120cN). Switches don't have a cherry logo btw.

See, thats geekhack, you start a topic about who you are and not even 7 posts later it's all about keyboards again ;)

Sounds like it might be a knockoff F with fake cherries? AFAIK IBM/Unicomp boards only ever had buckling springs and/or rubber domes, never alps or cherries.

http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_MX_Black

Blacks introduced in 1984 according to deskthority. Maybe they're an early black but again I've never personally heard of a IBM board with anything but BS or RD.

EDIT: upon closer examination, I don't think that's a Model F. Aside from not being branded IBM, it's made in taiwan, and I don't think IBM outsourced their keyboard manufacturing to Taiwan. (AFAIK they had their plant in Kentucky, where unicomp is based now.)

I don't know what that is lol
