Superfluous Parentheses, added these to the wiki, but not sure about the "corrected key colors" version.  Should I link to both black HHKB Pro 2 images in your post (that's what I did for now) or just the corrected one?

Thanks

I think the corrected version is better. The keys on my Black on Black HHKB are almost the same color as the case, so just leave out the older version

My Realforce 87ub.  I started with some of the others I found in this thread. Then fixed the colors to match my setup.

Then I did sub-pixel edits.  On a standard LCD with RGB stripes (the most common) you'll see that this keyboard shows a smaller gap between the keys.  Most of the images in this thread just show a full black pixel between them.

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 22690

A lot of early posts in this thread refered to sub-pixel editing, but I'm not seeing them.

I may play with this more.  The consensus in this thread is to show a shadow on the bottom pixel of each key (I guess corresponding to the front of the keycap).  With my office setup I have sunlight coming in behind me, and the front of each key appears lighter than the top.  I may play with that for a while.

Would you be so kind to apply your sub-pixel editing magic to the Kinesis Advantages? The thumb keys, especially on the white ones really need it, to make the lines smooth:

I assume you're addressing this to eyesnine? Good idea, I know I struggled with this and you improved it but still...  And FYI, above images added to wiki.

I'll try to do something soonish.  If not today then maybe on the weekend.  Probably better would be to describe to people HOW I did it.  I don't have a paint program the deals with it directly.  Instead it's tedious playing adjustments of colors based on looking at RGB values and picking new colors based on averaging color components across them.  Tedious.  And then more tedious.

The thumb keys really do look much better.  If you save as gif or png instead of jpg, you can retain transparency and the compression is lossless.  I prefer png but gif is OK.

I think it would be a lot easier if using a 45degree rotation for the thumbkeys would be OK.

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 22839

It would be interesting to know if it would be possible to create the appearance of sharp lines using subpixel magic, if there are any optimal angles easier to work with than others?

Easier yes, but they are rotated way too much. I own a few of these keyboards and it's too obvious.

My apologies for the rush job. Here it is cleaned up and with transparency.

Actually, I see that there is still a lot of corruption present that crept into the original image as I did the subpixel part with a higher color depth; so I've remedied that now, I think:

Actually, I see that there is still a lot of corruption present that crept into the original image as I did the subpixel part with a higher color depth; so I've remedied that now, I think:

Show Image

When viewed at normal size I think your original version of the white one looks best.  When zooming in you can see the jpg compression but only when zoomed in.  On my monitor at least the second white version (in post immediately above) shows some gaps in the coloring of those key clusters.  The silver one (second in the post immediately above) looks good, if perhaps not quite as crisp, at least to my eyes, as the original.  So if I try to take just those key clusters out of your first cut and transplant it to our original, it looks like the attached.  I'm only half sure of what I'm typing, hoping that once I get all of the images in one post and can compare them side by side, it will be clear.  So I'll wrap it up for now, submit and take a look, come back and update this text if needed.

Yup, your original, or the transplant, still looks best to me.  What does everyone else think?  Are we covered for white and silver? Still need black I guess if so.

Thanks for the great work quadibloc!

If I may be so bold, I really think that sub-pixel blending, or indeed anti-aliasing of any kind, really takes away from the aesthetic appeal of "pixel" art :-O

Just had to chime in with that.

I was hesitant, thinking that there were, after all, the others here who were first to address subpixel techniques, and I didn't feel I could easily do the black keyboard... but I finally made the effort. Here are my latest versions of the three colors:

I think I have them looking reasonably well now, without spoiling what had been done well by the original artist of these images, just adding improved tilted thumb keys.

The black's thumb keys need to be made darker to match the rest of the keyboard. I tried to fix it but the subpixel thing is stopping me.
Also the very top of the thumb keys in all of them looks too jagged, looks like a V, I think it's missing a lighter-color pixel in between the 2 top corners of every thumb key (in all of 3 images).
