LED Swap - Magitronic board
(1/1)
Tarzan:
I'm interested in swapping the stock LEDs used in an older Magistronic board for a different color/shape (the stock ones are kind of tall and wedge-shaped, apparently to best fit the aperture in the top case).
Anything I should be wary of, or is this a fairly straight-forward swap? I've no idea what the stock LEDs are rated at, I figure I can test the leads with a multimeter and see what voltage is present when the light is lit.
These are the ones I'd like to use as replacements:

what colour were the stock LED's? If they were blue or green, their VF might be a little higher, and you can look into replacing the resistor. likewise, red LEDs are usually about 1.6V so you might have to change it there.
I notice the replacement LEDs have a VF of ~2V, so they might work as a drop-in
What's best is to check the resistor, and see what current you want through your new LED to see if it needs to be changed
