Title: Nominate-A-Bro 2.0 [OVER]
Post by: Michael on Fri, 25 September 2015, 16:17:24
This will be an ongoing effort to give back to awesome people in the community. The rules are simple;

1. Make a post describing your experience with a member of the community, and what makes them awesome (nominate as many as you like, just separate the posts, and have an actual story with it)
2. At the end of the nominations, a handful of winners will be selected for the prizes.
3. Winners will receive the prizes in the mail (all free, of course)

That's pretty much it!

WINNERS FOR THIS ROUND:

R1N3
swill
sed8op8
suicidal orange
GhostJuggernaut
nickheller
hashbaz
btctopre ---> passed to Badwrench

Up for grabs this time:

1. Andromeda Skies V2 - MX
2. Interstellar Green V2 - MX
3. Star Cluster V2 - MX
4. Interstellar Pink V2 - MX
5. 1x Random MX V2 (Donated from BunnyLake)
6. 1x Random Topre V2 (Donated from BunnyLake)
7. 2x Apple Green BS V2's

This nomination period will end on October 1st, 2015

PS - Ladies also count as 'Bros' <3

nickheller!

I've been letting my game slip re: artisan cap sales and have missed a few. nickheller hooked me up with an SLS esc at cost!

Although he may have done it just because he was sick of hearing me complain in IRC  :D

Jerue is quite the bro. He is really nice on the forums, especially since I am pretty new to Geekhack. He also helped me form my opinions on the Matias Quiet Clicks. I couldn't find a single Alps keycap, and he sent me quite a few in the mail, all free of charge! Also the Quiet Clicks are really nice!

Also have had some very nice experiences with Prelim and Yobinad ;) We are from the same location and had a very small meetup to retrieve some cables Prelim got for us, and endended up with a room full of keyboard to test and a very well spent afternoon :D

I would like to nominate GhostJuggernaut. He sent me my dream bro cap for nothing in return! It was super selfless of him, and I appreciated it very much. Thankfully I was able to repay him by sending him a cap that he liked, several months later. This is just one instance of him being a good guy, but I have seen him help out countless others around the site.

Sed8op8

There have been a number of times since I joined the community that I was just completely lost to what was going on around me and Sed has always been kind enough to direct me in the right path. I can't really put one story to it because it's an accumulation of times that shes helped which shows both patience and sincerity on her part. Thanks Sed!

Another giveaway for the community spirit!  :)

Firsty I'd like to nominate btctopre, he's been a great pillar of the community with all the giveaways to the bro-less and all. He gave me some really nice topre caps I have been using for quite a while now, and that I'm planning on passing on.

He deserves my nomination because he's gives so much to the community and he deserves to get some back.  :)

I don't really explore much outside of the geekhack marketplace forum, but a person who immediately comes to mind when I think of someone being a total bro is Photekq. Way back when I was still discovering the world of custom mechs, I came across Photekq's TEK-80. Wanting to CNC a case like it, I followed the link in his original post which led to the CAD files, but the link was dead and I couldn't get the files. I didn't really want to bother him, figuring that he was too busy to respond to PMs regarding a year old project, but I decided to reach out to him anyways. I PM'd him saying that the link was dead and asked if the files were hosted elsewhere, and he got back to me within 24 hours. He didn't have to help me or didn't have to respond at all, but he replied with an updated link to the CAD files and some advice on improving the case. He probably doesn't remember me asking him as this was ~10 months ago, but his helpfulness has stuck with me since then.

Photekq is a bro.  :thumb:

I nominate Oobly. I had recently joined GH and had been making some keycap renders. Of course, I was terrible at it and used the wrong colors. The posters seemed rather focused on what kits I'd make available or making comments on the color way. Which was fine. Oobly linked me to DT's colors and even threw up a color corrected mockup. This was extremely helpful and helped motivate me to work on the keyset. Oobly for pres!

I bought the bro that cptbadass sold for destiny/GH and found that it didn't fit on my escape key very well. Kept sticking

Suicidal orange pmed me and helped me out as much as he could and suggested a few things that may have been the problem and how to fix it. Still sticking in the end but was nice to have someone help out of the blue when I was a new member.

This is very difficult, as I have over a dozen people that have helped me tremendously in this hobby, whether it is just chatting about whether this keyset look good with that artisan, to discussing the minute differences between green and blue Alps switches. I equally appreciate and enjoyed the correspondence with each and every one of you, so it makes this really hard.

I would like to nominate Zeal for all the work he does to make the community happy, and for coming up with Zealios, which is a complete game changer. You really gotta see his packaging skills, it's amazingly efficient, compact, and secure. He also took time out of his busy evening to lube and pack a few bags of Zealio samples for me to pickup, half an hour before my flight, so I would be able to play with them over the 10 hours! :thumb:

nominated him before - livingspeedbump - always polite, always  doing stuff for people over at /r/mechanicalkeyboards, and he made a post over there about discussing artisans and made it a really friendly discussion where everyone could state their opinions and thoughts without any drama. Basically, he's the reason I kept up with keyboards because he showed it isn't all about being greedy and backbiting.

Nominating Karura for his maturity and respect shown in the Skidata IC thread regarding bars vs scoops vs nipples.  It's never easy having your opinions or position challenged and far too often we all give in and act a fool as Ludacris said.  Rather than becoming angry and impolite, Karura took it all in stride and did a fine job in standing firm while still acknowledging the wants of others.  Basically, he wasn't a **** when many people would have been.

I nominate DrCr4nK, Hes a long time friend, and a recent addition to this community, much like I am.  He introduced me to the wonderful world of mechanical keyboards, and is responsible for me rocking my v60 with mx whites and miami keys.  Outside of this, he's always a great bro, loaning out peripherals such as extra dvi cables or even an active display adaptor when needed, when he doesn't just give me much needed parts, like a spare hard drive when mine was failing.  Even buys me games from time to time so we can experience them together.  Great guy to know, and would love for him to receive some recognition for it outside of me trying to give back when I can.

My nomination goes out to livingspeedbump.
He does so much for the community and I think he deserves a bro for all his hard work. Everything he does is with the communities best intentions in mind. To start things off he took over keychatter and has kept up with the keyboard reviews as well as interviews with artisans, and informing the community of anything he thinks is important and that others might of missed. As he draws closer to opening the keychatter store, a unique idea set up to help the artisan makers, he made sure to step down as a moderator over on /r/mk so there wouldn't be any conflict of interest. Apart from his work on /r/mk and keychatter he also started /r/keycapdesigners, a subbreddit devoted to helping people with the initial design process of new, cool keysets for the community. I first got in contact with him when he started /r/keycapdesigners and was looking for moderators. I volunteered to help, not really expect anything to come of it, but he added me to team within minutes and has always been supportive of my efforts. He has helped me a great deal with the /r/mk community keyset that's in the works, and is always positive with good suggestions. He is also real pleasure to chat with on skype and has acted as someone for me to casually talk to about my keyboard obsession. It is in this casual conversation that his true character really shines. Whenever I see someone trying to sell an artisan he's interested in I always shoot him a link, but most of the time he refrains from trying to buy the caps because he isn't okay with people selling artisans for such a personal gain. Finial to top it all off, when I saw he was trying to trade/sell his hhkb ctrl esc kit I made an offer, but instead of accepting he sent me the kit free of charge. livingspeedbump truly is a gem in the community and there is no doubt in my mind he deserves a reward for all he does and has done.

lol sorry for the essay, being the midst of way too many AP classes, and it being midnight, can do that to you  :p

I also forgot to mention that he works with massdrop a lot helping organize new keysets and other cool mechanical keyboard drops he thinks the community would enjoy

Last Minute Edit: When negotiating a trade for a Liberator set LSB offered his only BroCap to help make the trade go through because he knew how much I loved the set. If this doesn't exemplify what a great guy LSB, and show how deserving he is, I don't know what will.

You are too kind, and I'm working on making it now. :)

So many good Bros around here...

Sed - I mentioned that I was looking for a Booper Monkey and she, with in like hours, offered me one that she had free of charge. Not only that, but she is super nice and makes everyone feel welcome around here. It is like positivity x1000. I just love it. I think that kind of attitude goes a long way to get people to come out of their shells, participate and really be kind to others.

Badwrench - He offered me some great advice on a woodworking project. Without his suggestion, I probably would have been frustrated for a while. Sometimes a simple suggestions can make a big impact. What makes this place so great is how people really come together and help eachother out, and I think Badwrench is a great example of that.

today i will finally tell the tale of Rumpelstilzchen. his alias on kbdlab.co.kr is 데스피어, or 'DESPAIR' in English--which is a fitting name for him, as you will come to find. it's only been a few months since i opened my eyes to custom mechanical keyboards, and only this past month that i discovered the beautiful existence of artisan keycaps. due to this, the risks of ordering internationally, and the fact that the dollar is so high against the korean won, i only oggle other people's acquisitions on GH and generally translate GH news to the non-English speaking bulk of my kbdlab peoples. the artisan keycap scene is very, very small in korea.

about four weeks ago, i asked the chat to look at a secondhand custom keyboard that i was considering for my first purchase. the kailh brown switches would require a complete desoldering of switches and full LEDs, which chat unanimously declared would be more trouble than it was worth (at the asking price), especially since i didn't have the tools or the knowledge. i had given up all hope until DESPAIR appears in the chat and offered to sell one of his, a very rare LZ-b10 with vintage stock MX Blacks (clear tops) stickered, lubed, tuned, and lit up like a christmas tree, all at the cost of base materials, only.
of course, i jumped at it. it really is a well-made keyboard, and just as described. little did i know, however, i had paid with my soul, as well...

a week after my purchase, a post went up, announcing 'FREE ASSEMBLY EVENT!' DESPAIR would be welcoming new people by assembling their first keyboard for no cost. he had seen members like me, who wished for one, but didn't know where to start; professional assembly costs were too expensive. why not give back to the community that gave so much to him? the conditions were, you must not own any custom keyboard, and you would have to ship every little part required to him. of course, i would not be applicable, though he did add in the notice that should there be few applicants, those who owned a custom but could not assemble one would also be considered.

two lucky newbies were chosen, and their new custom keyboards were magically delivered to them less than a week later. pictures of happiness and multi-coloured LEDs, followed. with little hope of getting a place in this raffle, i ordered switches. the very next week, DESPAIR made another announcement, calling for another round of participants. this time, he had even talked other reluctant elders into helping. DESPAIR had a custom metal logo sticker made with 'DESPAIR' on it, which he had stuck on the keyboard i purchased, and this sticker would taunt me, forever, as three more members received what they desired, and yet another announcement went up. i ordered acrylic housing, bolts, and bumpers...

by this time, news had spread about DESPAIR. members were increasing, applicants doubling, and i started to wonder when i would offer up my firstborn child to Rumpelstilzchen in return for a slot, while i proceeded to buy some PCBs, a soldering iron & solder. i made a mess of things, the iron too hot. got another. i wasn't alone. the marketplace and Q&A are busier than before.

another announcement calling for new applicants will go up, soon. to this day, i wander the internet in hopes of catching the devious imp as he hops about and sings his song revealing his True Name, which will free my soul from this growing despair   obsession.

DESPAIR is not from here*, but he is everywhere.

*if this disqualifies him from being nominated, then that's a bit of justice, i suppose. still, you get to hear a 'good' (!) story from the other side of the world on this, korean thanksgiving (chuseok).

btctopre is who I'd go with. He would go at length to pursue that cap that will go well with his 10AE colour scheme and when it doesn't fit, he gave the cap in a giveaway.

Ashley is another I'd go with also. Super generous and is always doing good things for people who's bro-less or artisan-less. She just want to see people being happy!

I'd like to nominate Freecopy.

During the blackout bro sale i had really wanted a matte black BBv2 but i couldn't resist the allure of the Pharaoh and unfortunately i couldn't afford both so i had chosen the Pharaoh but was always disappointed that i never got the black BBv2.
A couple months had passed since the sale and Freecopy messaged me completely out of the blue and asked for my address and if i was comfortable with him sending me keyboard related goods, of course i said i'd be happy to but i was insanely shocked because i literally had never spoken to Freecopy and possibly never even quoted a message of his. What was this stranger going to send me? **** pics? anthrax?

So a week later i receive this amazing looking box containing a matte black BBv2.

This complete stranger had seen my previous messages about my first world problem of not being able to afford two BBv2's and had wanted to get me the black BBv2 i had originally wanted for some unknown reason, i think he's trying to get into my pants, i might let him.
Apparently Freecopy had gone as far as to message bunny during the blackout sale to ask if he could pay for a matte black BBv2 and add it to my order since i had already been lucky enough to win a dibs ticket for that sale but it had been too late or bunny didn't see the message in time. Turns out that Freecopy had also entered the blackout sale and had won a black BBv2 and after some procrastination got around to sending me this beautiful cap.

Thank you so much Freecopy, you said you wanted nothing in return but unfortunately i'm still going to try =P

BunnyLake - I know that he will probably pull some strings to make sure he does not win, but I am going to nominate him anyway.  :)  There are so many reasons why he is a totally solid bro, but I will only list a few.  Giving away hundreds of dollars of stuff to start PAY IT FORWARD is an amazing initiative.  He has taken the helm on the GH60 GB which has been floundering for like 2 years now and he is making great progress getting that all squared away.  I did a small amount of work for him with no expectation of any payment and he offers me a JTK set for free for it.  This is just in the last month or so, the list gets very long if I go any farther back.  If for no other reason, I nominate BunnyLake because that man deserves our props...

Bro, I know you do a lot in the background and contribute in many ways that we don't really hear about.  A big shout out to you for just being awesome.  Love your work...  :)

For a month I told Joey Quinn I'd be buying his lightsaver v1. We went back and forth over message, but eventually I couldn't commit the funds toe the board and had to back out. I felt terrible, and said as much. Joey accepted it gracefully and wasn't mad or angry but understanding.
Good guy that Joey.

A user from reddit, who I'm assuming has an account here somewhere, /u/rjmana is one of the nicest bro's i've ever talked to or seen interact with others. he's always super duper helpful. a few weeks ago i noticed he was looking for some stock mx clear springs. being the bro he is i figured i'd bro back by hooking him up with my over abundance of them. We talked for a bit and made arrangements and springs were shipped. During our conversation the topic of bro's came up. I had stated how stoked I was for the cherokey sale and that I finally had a chance to nab a bro, but totally bummed that I missed out on the one I really wanted, a Traditional. rjmana said he was lucky enough to score one and that once it shipped to him he would be happy to send it my way. now thats a bro. keep up the good work Bro. I'm LOVING the new sculpted designs. Can't wait for the Rustler.

In my limited time here, I've noticed that
HoffmanMyster
and
BunnyLake
are really cool bros. There are many others, most of which have taken great pangs to answer each and every one of my newb questions, but Hoff and Bunny stick out because they deal with droves of users, newb to elders alike, innocent to incendiary.
They're pretty much the definitions of chill pills.

But, again, there are other cool cats too.

PS
Elrick is pretty funny.

Edit:
Zeal,
too. He needs to stop being at the PC/Tapatalk all the time to answer all my questions and get on with his daily life!

Dude is a proper legend who constantly harasses me with more stupid **** to waste my money on, and I'd have it no other way. Recently he found me a £200 plastic robot toy, I mean really, at this point I'm pretty sure it's not even my fault anymore. The bastard.

/u/rjmana (I've been told his name on geekhack is rjmana) is great, he is always helping out every new person who comes to reddit, he would gladly tag in for any topic, always so nice and helpful, I nominate him. Any question, easy, hard, repetitive or exciting, as long as he is online, he will answer it and respond nicely! He really deserves this!

I would like to nominate nubbinator.  He is always doing so much for the comminity: answering questions, pushing the alps agenda, giving out his caps to people and for good causes (njbairs alps gb), etc.  He is a really nice guy and will also be helping me to finish sorting and packing my gb.

1 for Nubbinator I don't know him Well but he's always been super legit and does so much for the community I love the fact he practices what he preaches and is one of the most straight up people on GH. I think it is admirable how he conducts himself and treats others and his love for this hobby and community is apparent in all he does here. Not to mention he makes me lol often. There are other bros that I would nominate as well but Bunny stood out for me. That whole temence drama was solved thanks to both Bro and Bunny spotting that fake photoshop and in the end Bunny still compensate me with some free caps. Need more Bunnies in this world!

He is super chill and love how much he does around here. His current GB and destiny raffle being a couple of examples. He was the first guy I traded with here and he went above and beyond. Hooked me up with an awesome spongebob pez set I keep on my desk to this day. He also sent me a great book and really was a great example for me to emulate in my other interactions here on GH! And to ride the Joey Quinn love wave, I nominate Joey! We've never really spoken directly, but they've always been super helpful in posting answers to my questions and pointing me in the right direction. Totally unsolicited as well, so thank you Joey for being so friendly and awesome!

I also nominate Nubbs - he's always been so helpful in my keycap making endeavors and I truly appreciate it!

ironpup is a stellar guy. He worked incredibly hard on organizing the /r/mk keycap set that is in the works and does a lot to help mod /r/keycapdesigners. He helps pick up a lot of the slack that i have just because I get flustered and busy and can't normally do everything thats on my plate on my own. Having a kind, trustworthy wingman is worth a lot.

Trizkut is another awesome member of this community. He has helped me find caps on multiple occasions. Most notable for me was my first stump. He read about my experience with my first bro here and contacted me about my post admiring the stump design. He even offered up one of his Preciouses (he is a stump fiend haha) at cost and we talk here all the time and just recently in a trade threw me a nub dolly as a surprise and free of charge. He is one of my favorite people here and a true Bro ! Thanks for being you Brozkut

I'm really glad giveaways like this happen, recently I've been feeling ****ty about the community and it's nice to know that myself and others have made our mark and helped people.

I'd like to nominate Sed, I don't talk to her that often but we always end up on a tangent talking about random hobbies and life. It seems to me that she's in this hobby to make friends and have fun instead of collect every board and artisan which I really respect. I also see her constantly helping new members and giving away caps.

How could I forget, I nominate GL1TCH3D, such a helpful person, not just in mechanical keyboards (even though he is really helpful with it). I was on the /r/headphones subreddit and we were talking about /r/mechanicalheadpens and he talked to me about fountain pens which I bought one of and now I really like it (although I am usually covered in ink just from writing with one). He is very helpful and very friendly wherever he goes.

I've never spoken on the forums just lurked mostly, but I will say I slept through nearly every sale and missed so many by mere hours. So, one day mildly inebriated on some wonderful plants, I decided to message Bro Caps and ask him if he could give ten minutes extra on any sale because I literally have missed some by minutes. I thought my name might offend him and he would never let me win one of his (since I saw you can ban on Cntrl). I was met with a very nice guy and he told me a sale would be soon. I thought that was pretty bro, because I figured he would ignore it and possibly ban me from the competition.

My friend went on to win a key in that sale and I of course came up with no golden ticket. :P

I'd like to nominate a guy I heard about the first time when he asked arround for some simple stabs to test some plate he got. Said plate later went into mass production and was thus made availaible to the community of GH as part of his groupbuy.

That wasn't even long ago (I think?).

Now LeandreN opened his own online shop after leading his second successful groupbuy to provide awesome keyboard parts to the community, equally in the US and EU (what makes him even more sympathetic!).

So yea, even if my experiences with him were mostly businesswise, LeandreN became a real bro to me over time! And I'm sure others here think the same way  :)

I'm nominating HoffmanMyster and btctopre! When i participated in the whole secret santa thing, my santa dropped out, and Hoffman sent a package with a awesome KBK mummy, some coffee crisps, and some other stuff! That was my first KBK mummy, and I totally wasn't expecting it. He's just a stand-up guy in general :)

Also btctopre gaveaway a zombro in a thread to the first person who showed they didn't win a bro more than 3 times in a raffle, and that person just happened to be me! That was my first bro ever, and i can't thank him enough for it. It was really hard to pick those two, because there's just so many nice people here, and also nubbs, Sed8op8, CPTBadAss, and Badwrench, all sent me awesome gifts when my secret santa dropped out. And like i said earlier, i can't thank those guys enough :)

Who to nominate...

I'm gonna go with Meiosis for helping through a very tough time in my life. Also for always knowing someone who has something I want and putting us in contact.

Honorable mentions:

Everyone who joined my "pay what you want" 1st sale. Got me on my feet and believed I could make more than ****ty caps. (Everyone that's complaining I didn't mention them, you could've been in this one!)

Clacktalk for being a great mate to play games and chat with; also a good hype man.

Karura for his attention to detail when dealing with large groups of people and being a genuinely nice guy to almost everyone.

Sent for not going Rambo on some *****es who totally deserved it, but kept it professional when anyone else wouldn't.

Freecopy for reaching out to me to get some tacos. Seriously, tacos are dope.

Sethk for having been nothing but supportive and encouraging.

Vespersaint for his pics raising the overall quality of GH (and maybe a little for playing dank memes over his mic on CS).

Azhdar for not giving a **** about what anyone else thinks (seriously, straight forward answers help a lot).

KatzenKinder and Binge for being awesome cap makers who share and teach great ideas and practices.

Hwood for same reason as Azh, but more dank memes.

There are many more, but I'll stop for now.

I am nominating 5 people and I hope they all win. In no particular order.
Tasker (https://www.shapeways.com/designer/Tasker)
Bosk (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/3latvb/keyboard_art_artisan_keycap_art_by_bosk/)
Andy and Aaron (https://www.keychatter.com/category/reviews/)
and lastly but not leastly 00zeRO (https://geekhack.org/index.php?action=profile;u=32059)

Here's why:
Tasker for some of the best 3D printed caps I have ever tried or seen.
Bosk for that sick painting skill!
The two guys I briefly have interacted with at KBChatter. You know who they are. If not for their site I wouldn't have ever known about all this stuff.
And 00zeRO for trying so damn hard to bring a GB I missed back before the release of FO4.

I just got into KB stuff recently. I still don't know jack about anything.
I just like to make my stuff look cool.
That's the only reason I am here.

Good luck to everyone.

Edit: reading fail.

I posted a WTB for ork trooper and keyng a few weeks ago after getting an ork trooper in my cart then being notified that it was all gone when trying to pay in the Binge sale a few weeks ago. As expected, not a soul responded and the thread got buried to oblivion.

Then earlier this week out of nowhere, I got a message from a dustinhxc. now, I recognized this name instantly cause I've seen his amazing photos all around geekhack. in the message, Dustin said that he saw that I was looking for a keyng and offered to sell me one... at retail. but that wasn't all... he showed me like 12 other artisans, including a bro, nubs, boopers, keykollective, ALL at retail. blew my ****ing mind.

I ended up buying a trans orange dolly and a royal jelly keyng. Dustin also threw in a creamsicle dolly for free (holy ****). three keys that I never in a million years ever dreamed of owning. I mean… in the time that I became interested in artisans I’ve never even seen a nub sale. every day I would see all these media posts of beautiful artisans and all these WTT artisan posts and felt like it was some impossible secret society that I would never be part of, and here was Dustin just out of the blue, completely randomly offering me the most beautiful caps for zero profit to himself.

If this guy’s not a bro, I dunno wtf a bro is. And so, I nominate dustinhxc. hope you can win one of these bro caps through this nomination! thanks bro.

btctopre - Ran a brocap giveaway for any people who were bro-less, and I won! You can't argue that running giveaways to spread around some great artisan caps isn't a positive interaction. If this thread is anything to go by then this wasn't a one-off occurrence, and there is plenty more beyond giveaways that he does around here that has earned him the level of respect that he has around here.

cottonsox - Bought a 23U from him via the classifieds and everything through the process was handled beautifully. Stayed in constant contact with me all the way through until I received it and was satisfied. I was really impressed with how much care he took through the transaction.

I want to nominate two members, who have not directly been bros to me, but have been bros to the community as a whole.  They have put in countless hours of their own work to further the development of custom keyboards and their layouts.

JDCarpe:  He needs no introduction, but his work can bee seen all throughout GH.  He provides valuable information in various topics around the site, and has aided in the design of numerous projects throughout the site.

Swill:  He created an website that allows you to design a plate.  I mean come on.  Who knows how many people have used his tool, in order to bring their custom ideas to life.  He has also offered to create a site to allow for tracking of pay it forward gifts.  Something so that the same people are repeatedly receiving gifts.

I think that these two do not get enough recognition, and deserve to be nominated as the unspoken bro's of Geekhack.  These are the people that make this community what it is, keyboard enthusiasts.

This.  So much this.  Both are awesome awesome guys that have contributed an inordinate amount to GH.  The best part is how humble and laid back they are.  True bro's. :thumb:

I also nominate livingspeedbump, he's been very supportive especially to someone new to mech kbs like me. I'm sure he's very busy but he finds the time to help, give advice and just overall be an awesome person. There's all sorts of drama and negativity in any community (it's the internet!) but I'm lucky to be around LSB's positivity  :thumb:

My nomination goes out to livingspeedbump.
He does so much for the community and I think he deserves a bro for all his hard work (this would be his very first one).

Pretty much this!

Livingspeedbump is a BRO and he deserves a BRO! My vote goes to Livingspeedbump.

id like to nominate R1N3

its hard to list all the things he does for me, but he is a constant source of support in projects that i enter in to as well as constantly going above and beyond to be a friend

outside of these attributes, he has also sent me some of the kindest and most thoughtful packages i have ever received on geekhack, ranging from a huge screenprint of one of my favourite artists which is now professionally framed and next to my desk in my office (a constant reminder of just how great this community is) to some of the coolest shoes i could imagine for my baby boy thats about to be born, and so many other little touching things

he is one of the most genuine people in this community, and whilst i will always try to pay back the kindness and support he has shown me, i dont think ill ever be able to express or repay the gratitude i feel for having "met" him

hes a true bro through and through

next i would like to nominate

PUNKSDEAD

once again, the main reason i want to nominate him is he is someone who i most appreciate for just being a friend, someone i look up to, admire, respect and frankly just love chatting to

but outside of that, hes always there to help me out, whether it be proxying stuff for me, waiting outside of record store day all day to try pick something up for me, spending god knows how many hours doing artwork etc for me and too many others things to mention, once again this is someone i feel permanently indebted to

lastly id like to nominate

CODYEATWORLD

he is one of the kindest, most genuine people i have ever met, completely selfless and someone who facilitates everything i do here, i spend most eof every day chatting to him, about anything and everything

i honestly cant list everything he has done for me, but instead, ill just simply say, outside of bro caps himself, this is the man who works hardest to get all of the rest of you some bro cap, in smoothest and most accessible ways possible

and lastly, an honourable mentions

BRO CAPS

my brother from another mother

VESPERSAINT
GHOSTJUGGERNAUT
SWILL
SPAMRAY
REMENITION
RSADEK
AGMURDERCORE

and lots more that are already mentioned in this thread

On the note I would also like to nominate Evo_Spec He's a lovely person and has offered multiple times to get me things from Japan too, most recently a B-shop exclusive Jesta cannon model, which I think is lovely of him, he also really likes green and is a little down on luck at the moment so something like this would be awesome for him!

I'm not going to make a huge write up because I truthfully don't plan on winning this contest; But my Bro to nominate is: Poostar

Poostar has been my good friend on the internet for two full years now. I got him into mechanical keyboards, and he got me into artisans, keycap sets, and just the great community which is geekhack. An example of him being a Bro is when I bought a ssd drive that didn't come with the SATA cable and I had no spare ones. He bought me one that was bright sparkly blue, and had it shipped to my house. He's a cool guy.

Aww thanks a lot, that's really nice to hear! :) likewise I'm nominating livingspeedbump as he helped me in getting lots of keyboard stuff available in US, but not in any way sold in Japan due to crazy shipping prices. In fact, thanks to his effort now I'm like one step away from my endgame which is a huge deal for me. And of course keychatter.com has been on my browser's starting page for quite a while :)

Also I just want to nominate a few other community members:

@keyclacker (sorry, I know you're on GH, but I don't know your name here) – he sent me an awesome miami-colored keyboard sleeve, and now I'm looking forward to getting some miami caps for that ultimate build :) also it's always nice to see some quality keyboard posts on my instagram feed

jackhumbert – helped me to trim down the shipping costs on my Planck order, and I'm kinda wishing other stores did that (looking at you, massdrop). Also, really like that Board Makers podcast he's doing, haven't skipped any releases so far.

VesperSAINT – we talked on youtube, he gave me a rundown on his Ergo Clears build, and now I'm trying to convert my Cherry MX Clear board into Ergo Clears as well. His keyboard also was a huge inspiration for my dream board, which I'm currently in the process of putting together :)

I nominate whizzard. Even though he's not as active as I'd like (ha), he's a brand new artisan trying to break into a really tough game. His technique is pretty great already (mastered the triple shot) and I can't wait to see what he'll come up with next. Whizzard's been a great friend to me on GH - always up for answering my silly questions and helping me along in my journey here on this forum. He's a source of inspiration and kindness, and for that I'm grateful he's here.

Demik. When I first joined he wasn't coming around (hiatus or something). Then all of a sudden, here comes this guy into the Free Stuff thread, giving away legit nice stuff.

Plus he endures constant post count manipulation, and all of nubbinator's harassment, even though he could probably just snap his fingers and have like a hundred cousins in lowriders all up in nubb's grill.

It'd have to be BunnyLake, never really talked to him directly here on GH but see his efforts a lot throughout the forum. For example he took over that sunken-ship-of-a-GB by WhiteFireDragon which pretty much seemed like a dead end to me.

I'm pretty sure hes the only one capable of reviving the Sprit GB.

I nominate dustinhxc!

As others have already mentioned, he is a stand up bro. I want to highlight that he is super supporting of a bunch of the newer artisan cap makers on the forums. Posting encouragement on their threads, buying stuff and taking sick pics, setting up 'Post your X caps' threads etc. I think a bunch of us on here can get pretty grumpy and argumentative, but Dustin seems to be living that positive life 24/7   The stories we hear of him sharing his artisan key fortune with people are actually kind of underwhelming.... "Dustin sent you extra keycaps with the ones he already sold you for retail? *light exhale of air from nose* of course he did"  ;D  That's a true bro 2.0 right there!

To iterate: Give prizes to Dustin, let him take pics, we all win  :thumb:

I'd like to put forth Elrick's name. I doubt he even cares for Bro Caps. I didn't have much direct contact with him, but his ever presence in many of the threads and his ability to hype up an GMK GB made him a valuable member of this community. A GB is pretty boring without this convict from Convict Town and he deserve a win, just so to see what snark remark he will come up with! Ha ha.

I couldn't find a single Alps keycap, and he sent me quite a few in the mail, all free of charge! Also the Quiet Clicks are really nice!

daww thx bro  :-* it was my pleasure lol

Gonna make a few separate posts, probably with users who I don't think have been mentioned yet.

I'd like to start with absyrd/abswyfe . This probably doesn't need much explanation but I think these two are bros of the century for all of the support with Destiny. We can all put on an act online and act like bros but these two are bros to the core. Destiny has really made an impact on a lot of us, like inanis/badwrench with their raffles, riotonthebay's insanely generous donation, and Hoffman's PuLSE charity auction.

I realize that through absyrd/abswyfe a lot of us have become even more awesome bros on geekhack but I don't think any of this would be possible without them and for that, I thank you.

If I'm ever in Philly and we have the chance I would like to buy you two a philly cheesesteak (or something else maybe not so overrated) :)

Thanks Brocap for another community driven give away.

Anyhow, I'd like to nominate my "Bro" /u/QuiickLime (https://www.reddit.com/user/QuiickLime).  In short, he and I were trying to troubleshoot the led support well back in the initial Pok3r launch back in May.  He was super helpful and quick to open his Pok3r to take pictures of the PCB as well as try to install an LED.  All in all we were able to determine it the lack of led support was done via firmware as all the main resistors and pinholes were on the PCB.

Flash forward a few weeks ago, with the release of the Vortex firmware update we worked together again and he was able to quickly install the LEDs and showcase the new LED firmware support.   Guy is a super standout guy and very helpful.  I'm waiting for follow suit and install my LEDs to my board once they come from the slow mail from China.

Again, thanks again for another the giveaway.

I'd like to nominate RoastPotatoes for introducing me to cap making, and also for being incredibly helpful when i first started making caps. He answered all the different questions that I had, and was really friendly towards me throughout the whole process(Even though I probably was a bit annoying with all my questions). Solid bro right there! :)

There are a lot of people nominated that deserve to be nominated again, but I'll try not to ;)

I would like to nominate Cottonsox. Back when I was even more clueless than I am now, I was watching Spy and saw an update in the fake Radnelac thread. I had heard about the Clackvent sale of the past, and looked into the event for a bit and saw the original thread where people were rushing to post first, how exciting. So when I saw this thread being bumped in July, I immediately posted, and was convinced that I had won some quad shot clack or something. I was very happy. I looked in the therapy thread and no one there had even reacted to the post (boy, was I fast or what). Seeing as Clack was still well and truly MIA at that stage, I asked if I had actually won or not, and a couple of people reassured me that I did. I was confused, but still excited for my ultra rare cc (they were probably jealous anyway).

However, I then got a PM from Cottonsox, fellow aussie, and saviour of noobs, informing me that the thread was indeed fake. If it weren't for him, it's possible I could haves still been patiently awaiting my sweet clackvent cap to this very day.

this is the moment in the therapy thread (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45955.msg1807802#msg1807802) if anyone's up for a sensible chuckle.

Almost forgot, i would like to nominate Jersern. He ran a HHKB tour for Australian around the time that I joined. In fact, my very first post was asking if I could join the tour, with the understanding that if he didn't want to hand over a HHKB to stranger with 0 posts, that would be perfectly fine. However, he said it was fine, and I even got it from him in person, as the first person in the tour.

Fast forward, and today I have my very own dental band modded HHKB  :thumb: If it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't have taken the leap when I saw HHKBs for sale during my trip to Japan.

Ha ha.
+1 For the Hype Master, GH would be boring without him  :thumb:

Nominating paicrai, cause without him on steam I'd be pretty lonely and he always brings me a smile to my face.

Also nominating Nasby99, the OTD master. Taught me almost everything I know about korean keyboards and has been a really good friend to me when we are talking via Skype.

Hahaha. I have way too many people who have shown me love to even start nominating.

I like reading about all these positive interactions, though. This thread/giveaway showcases the great part of the GH community. When people get negative, just direct 'em here.

Well I don't have too many interactions yet as I'm still pretty new, but the first person that comes to mind is katushkin.

I was looking to buy some artisans, and katushkin offered to sell me one at a very reasonable rate. Life got in the way, and long story short I've had to postpone the purchase, but he was very understanding, and mentioned that it'll still be there when I'm ready to purchase. I know it's not much, but it's one of the first interactions I've had in this community, and katushkin genuinely seemed as if he wanted to help a fellow collector out, and not charge an exorbitant amount just because he can.

Cheers katushkin!  :thumb:

Definitely a couple people I wanna shoutout but I'll start off with livingspeedbump. Like several others who've already posted in this thread, I was completely blindsided by livingspeedbump's generosity.
I was selling a KRAP skull over on r/mk and livingspeedbump was interested. However he told me his payment might be a bit delayed so to make up for it he'd send me a keychatter.com mug! I was like "hell yeah I'll wait as long as you want me to for free stuff" (or something to that effect :p). Anyway turns out the payment wasn't delayed at all but he sent me the mug regardless!! Thanks again dude!

Here's the mugshot:
[attach=1]

And aside from the mug, livingspeedbump has just been a super chill and polite guy in the relatively short amount of communication we've had. Recently I asked him his opinion on Zealios (since he's tried them already) and he was super helpful!

TL;DR: people like livingspeedbump just make the community more enjoyable to be a part of; free mug :thumb:

PunksDead: Really enjoy talking with him about lifting and life. It was great to find someone with shared interests outside of keyboards. Really generous person and really cares about this community as a whole. Looking forward to our next conversation although he is a damn busy man.

CPTBadAss:
Got to meet him a week or so ago and got to explore his old stomping grounds. Really great person and really enjoyed getting to chill with him and talk about keyboards and life. Really informative about events that occurred before my time in the community and was a wealth of knowledge on artisans caps and their makers. Showed me some amazing food places and got to discuss music and his upcoming travels.

I'd like to nominate some people who are always there for me in one way or another.

BunnyLake and CodyEatWorld - You guys have no idea.  I am indebted for the hours you put into your work and while treating me with respect and making me feel comfortable.
Joey Quinn - Not to many bros will just let you spend a night or more on their couch without ever having met.  This guy has always been there to talk about wild projects.
CPTBadAss - Always tells me just how real it is.  I don't know many people who could easily say they spent as many hours making their friends lives more interesting as they put into their day job.  Thank you CPT for knowing no state borders.
Livingspeedbump - As generous and friendly as they come.  He's never once treated me as an outsider.  The time he puts into responding to inquiries or chatting while keeping up with his interesting projects/work is truly appreciated.
HoffmanMyster - Can't really say anything that hasn't been said.  He also pays me child support on time.
Sed8op8 - We don't talk much but I get hella pumped over your enthusiasm.
Beehatch - We'll catch this crooked bird-scammer. :thumb:
kudosgodspeed - Sorta just met but already in bromance with your energy and dedication to the craft.
Punksdead - First person I met who would talk with me frankly about capcraft and a great source of inspiration. :)
Dustinhxc - Genuine fan and I hope he knows I have not forgotten my promise.
Badwrench - Has offered me a bunch of things I simply can't accept!  Well not all of them anyway.  Thanks for the birthday gift.

I'd like to nominate ImpendingxDoom.

He attended the meetup here in AZ that I missed out on and a few days later made the time to meet with me.

It was my first meeting outside the forum pages and it was really great. Talking keyboards with someone else
who shares the love of the hobby was a lot of fun. He opened me up to some other boards, layouts, switch types,
and even key profiles I'd yet to type on. He showed me and discussed his process in cap making which was very
interesting and FAR more involved than I had thought. It's always awesome listening to someone explain their
craft, more so when they're good at it.

Being so far from home and taking the extra time to hang out for food, drinks, keyboarding, and shooting the **** in general is definitely a Bro.

Coming in to toss in some names.

People listed have been great part of the community, are kind people, and have helped me and/or others in many ways.
They're all equally nominated:

Badwrench - Always a kind person, helping others, and is a pleasure to deal with.
PocketFool - Very kind and thoughtful. Dealt with him and was possibly the best communication and transaction i've had. Very kind, and even went and sent me something extra for a small issue that occurred, that was not a problem for me. Just overall, from the short span of time of dealing with, I've seen he's a great guy and I've changed a few things of my own to be more like him.
ghostjuggernaut - Awesome guy. Always see him around and i've delt with him before and was pleasant the entire time
Signature - Very kind and generous person. Has helped me, and have seen him go out of the way to help others in their time of need.
rowdy - Always a kind person and is the always the Welcome Party when it comes to new members on GH.
CodyEatWorld - Dude...He does A LOT for people. Does a ton of work for CTRL[Alt] and more, and sometimes we seem to forget/dont realize the amount of work he puts in. Great guy.
nickheller
swill
Bunny...
Hoff..
Joey Q..
CPT...
...
There are plenty of people that have already been mentioned many times.

Congrats everyone! :)

so uh... hey guys, what's going on in this thread? ;D i'd like to pass my spot on to another person if that's kosher though, i've been fortunate enough as it is lately (i mean come on, i won a tahiti even though odds were like 0.75% :P).

Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread to highlight the great people here and to everyone who was posted about for being as kind, helpful and/or generous as you are. Some of you really go beyond and it's an honour to be included in the same list as you.

I've been a semi-serious member of four forums prior to this one and have always left without a second thought which has suited my emotionally immature self just fine, but this one is different.  I could write a ton of drivel here but suffice it to say I am seriously moved by the generosity here to the point it makes me uncomfortable but without discomfort there is no growth so thanks, I think!

Thank you to those that nominated me.  I didn't realize I won until Bro pm'd me.

I just got this beautiful pink sparkly Brobot.  This and the black were my favorite colors from that sale.
[attachimg=1]

Unfortunately, it is a Topre, so I will be forced to trade it since I don't own any Topre boards.  I still really appreciate the sentiment Bro Caps in all that you have done.  Thank you.

Damn, that is a sexy cap Badwrench.  More than a little jelly.

Since Bro did ask winners to send him their choice of switch type, maybe he'll let you swap it.

It's not a big deal to me.  He is really busy and unless he would prefer that, I was just planning on offering it up for trade.  That way he doesn't need to do even more and it will make yet another person happy that they got a cap they were looking for.
