Classic by Hanshen, on Flickr

Black dye or squid ink in the buns?

I had to look it up when he posted this elsewhere. Apparently those buns are made by using bamboo charcoal in the dough recipe. Pretty crazy.

Ahhh that makes sense! I really do like charcoal coated peanuts and ash covered cheeses!

are these real foods ?

I haven't researched but I would assume they contain some mineral content that's beneficial. Mind you, apparently burnt stuff could help with getting cancer so who knows.

I've personally tasted lead paint, after being told that people actually eat the stuff,    it doesn't taste as sweet as "claimed"..

That was the reason why they said small kids would eat it..

It's less sweet than sugar substitutes..

A rainbow sushi roll and some sashimi tonight.

But I eat (or will try about anything). Not a big fan of extremely spicy stuff but I like flavorful.

I've caught quite a few blue fish and they are rather tasty in a nice fish gumbo

Hot milk and coffee with whatever cookies at hand, as long as they have some amount of dark chocolate in them

Pasta is starting to become a b* to digest (sorry Italy!) so it's mostly variously seasoned rice with some meat or fish for lunch.

Whatever cookies/pie/chips my mother found on discount this week for afternoon snack.

Meat or fish and roasted potato or boiled vegetables for dinner.

When I move out I want to try cooking all sorts of stuff since I had fun messing around in uni, but since my mom becomes a f* lionness whenever I approach the burners, I guess this is my life for the next year.

BTW that was a really nice-looking casserole in the first page. Going back to ogle the rest of the pics.

That cheesecake looks awesome... going to have to recreate that for sure.

I made salmon with plum tomatoes, shallots, garlic, lemon and zucchini. Served with jasmine rice. Was an audible at the store when their steaks were not up to snuff. Came out well, though.

Brisket!

Got a sous vide.
Decided I would christen it by cooking a brisket with it.

No pics...cuz...well, it certainly wasn't eye candy.

but OMG....SO TENDER...SO JUICY...

I made a potato salad to go with it.
I didn't even notice I hadn't touched it until there was 2 or three brisket bites left on my plate.

Ziploc brand bags are BPA free and don't contain dioxins so they should be safe.

But seriously everything we eat, touch and/or interact with is killing us somehow.

Can't eat raw spinach you might get salmonella, can't grill meat because of the carcinogens that might be made, and don't even think about having any sugar substitutes, pronouncing their names gives you cancer.

Just wait another 20 years when they realize how many of us got altered brain waves leading to mental health break downs due to smart phones. :P

Well the choices become more clear as time moves on.

For example the BPA is bad,  but the things they use to replace bpa have experimentally been determined to be equally as bad.. we know that as further research is conducted.

Meats is the tough one, it's a very endearing part to the American way of life..   even though so much new evidence show that it IS the cause of significant western cancers and the PRIMARY cause of heartdisease (WHICH) kills most Americans today..

But removing it is almost the same as being --Un-American-- so, that just won't happen for the general public any time soon.

It took almost 70 years to get our children off smoking..  it's going to take probably longer for meats.
