Italian Beef sandwhich. An amazing Chinatown where mistakemistake and I went *really ****ing hard* on the dim sum. I've been fiending for some real ramen.

In general, stupid SeriousEats is always posting amazing food porn.

Al's Italian Beef is awesome and I'm in for dim sum.

Al's is definitely different from Portillo's, luckily there's an Al's down the block from where we'll be.

From Chicago can confirm.

Also on the topic of food, we need to hit up the Sheffield DMK. They've got top notch burgers.

Want top notch? Dude, down the block from where we'll be, by Lehigh and Devon, there's a joint called Ivy's burgers. Man, my mouth just watered.

Pizza, hot dogs...what else does Chicago have to offer?

...A chrome bean? Ummm, Maxwell St, Speed and Red light cameras EVERYwhere...and I think that's it. OH! The sloppy people in Wrigglyville.

If I'm being honest it's really overrated. Unless you're cool with going out in the box and jumping to freak out people then it's kinda fun.

Things I'd love to do in Chicago that isn't Keycon or eating way too much:

- Catch a concert
- Fountain Pen Chasing: Century Pens, Paradise Pens, Montblanc Boutique
- Arcades/Barcades including Galloping Ghosts
- Retro Video Game hunting
- Hit up Saint Alfred or any place that might have cool sneakers
- I like thrift stores for keyboard spotting or just generally looking for odd things
- Wandering around (parks, weird neighborhoods, downtown, etc)
- Museum of Science and Industry: I heard this was a lot of fun

These would actually make some great side tours in 'off-time'.

What's the agenda for Keycon?  Never been to one, but have been a fan of real keyboards from the time I started on PCs in the late 1980s.

I'm down as a maybe as I don't know my work schedule yet for that weekend.

I think there's going to be some presentations and then we hang out. It's not really as organized as people make it seem to be. There might be some buying and selling depending on if people bring stuff or not but it's not like a trade show where it's guaranteed to have a ton of free swag and tons of buying and selling. I'll probably have a few things to give away and sell personally but I won't speak for anyone else.

Usually Geekhack meetups and Keycon is just a gathering of GHers and we chat about keyboards, play with keyboards, and eat food.

These would actually make some great side tours in 'off-time'.

I think there's a few of us who are planning on spending some extra time in Chicago to do a bunch of that stuff on the list. Not sure what everyone's schedule is like and this time around, it looks like it's only going to be one "official" day. In the past we've had 2 day Keycons.

If I can get my ducks in a row and be there, I'll have some cables both as swag and to sell.  Just dunno how much or if I'll even have time to get them done.  Other than that, I'll sell sifo and halverso's bodies.

Because of the conflict with MakerFaire, it looks like Kaia won't be able to join me at Keycon. But she's making it up to y'all by letting me bring some PCBs from various Keyboardio prototypes to give away.

Anyone here from Wisconsin that is willing to let me tag along with them? I'll share costs <3 My wife wants to come but she will be staying with my baby and she doesn't want to bring a 13 month old to keycon. I can't drive long distances since I'm diagnosed with an idiopathic disease in which symptoms cause me to fall asleep on long distance driving  :(

We did a Keycon West last summer. Not sure if/when that'll happen again with mkawa departed for the Great Snowy East. We have a good concentration of Geekhackers in California though.

Been talking to some people for a while about Keycon and trying to organize. I'll be in town Thursday evening/night until Monday midday.

I think it's starting to look like Sunday is going to be dim sum and a trip to Galloping Ghosts arcade. There's been a lot of talk about doing something touristy so maybe a trip to the science museum as well? I've actually been wanting to check that out too. Dunno if the arcade is an all day thing. For me it definitely could be but I don't wanna dictate everything obviously lol.

Definitely want to get pizza at least one night so maybe we could do that Saturday night?

And I haven't figured out Friday but I'd really like to indulge in retro video game chasing or fountain pen shopping for at least a little while. But I'm also just down for exploring Chicago and very open to any suggestions to those who will be around.

Any thoughts from anyone else?

The Museum of Science and Industry is a little kid focused.

Anyways, when I go to Chicago, I usually admire how well dressed/skinny/attractive people are compared to my Rust Belt hovel.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

Might be a good idea to spend most of the day at Galloping Ghost. There is definitely plenty to do, and you get more value out of it the longer you are there. Also it isn't in Chicago, its in the burbs. In GOOD traffic about 30 minutes from downtown, bad traffic is about an hour plus.

I thought Friday might go like this:

- view Chicago from the Willis Tower
- visit Chicago Board of Trade
- have lunch at Chez Quis (reservations will be under the name "Abe Froman")
- catch a Cubs game at Wrigley Field
- take in some art at the Art Institute of Chicago
- attend German-American Parade

Maybe we need to rent a convertible Ferrari for this?
