Introducing - The Tiki (Pick a Color)
« on: Tue, 14 November 2017, 14:35:40 »
Hello!

Over the past few months, I’ve been trying my hand at sculpting and casting some key caps. After many attempts I’m proud to share the results of some color experimentation I’ve done with my first cap.

I introduce to you, The Tiki:

So pick a color, any color! Let me know what you like and what you dont like. I would love to hear any feedback on the design, especially on the coloring and any potential colorways to try out.

I’ve been grateful to receive help from many people who have posted here, so I hope to contribute in the future.

Thanks!

That Orange one is amazing and perhaps a Teal and Copper color? Are Purple and Pink might be popular for Laser.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I started our trying to make browns, but realized they are kinda boring...

What's Laser?

Laser is a very popular and hyped key set drop that's happening. This is the website for Laser https://mitormk.com/s00n/

Ohhh okay, I'll definitely consider matching colors to key sets. One more thing to think about, thanks again!

Welcome! Those are pretty good looking sculpts, you must have some background in making resin casting stuff? Are you new to mechanical keyboards?

Thank you! I'm actually relatively new to casting resin but have several years experience sculpting in clay. All credit goes to my brother who has been involved in the keyboard community and introduced me to the world of artisan key caps. Seeing the sick caps out there inspired me to try my hand at the craft  ;D

I'd like to see a profile shot (maybe on a keyboard) and a butt shot. Did you sculpt on a keycap or are you using a system like a Synth?
F Keys belong on the left.

Here are a few shots I took from my phone, hope they are clear enough.

I first tried sculpting on blanks, but it was too hard to try and hold the keys and carefully sculpt. I was stoked when my brother gifted me a synth, it was game changing. Not only is it easier to hold, but it makes casting much easier too
