I use a Glorious Extended from https://www.pcgamingrace.com

My G400S performs great on it. No tracking issues. It's an exceptionally smooth cloth pad, so it's more "speed" than "control" IMO. I bought it specifically because I can sit my keyboard on top of it, and because I wanted stitched edges since my last pad came unglued.

You can clean it with soap, water, and a brush. One thing to note is when I was cleaning it recently, I used way too stiff of a brush, and afterwards the surface was a bit rougher than before. Still plenty usable, just slightly different feeling now. My own fault probably. Also, the white version looks stunning but stains extremely quick. It's in my LAN bag but I would avoid it for daily use.

Depends if you want a hard plastic mat or if you want a soft mesh material. Hard plastic I think that steelseries 4HD is tied with Logitech G440 as the best ones. Pros with these are that they are very easy to clean and is a very good mouse pad if you like hard surface.

Otherwise if you want soft meshthere are many good alternatives. I use an xtrfy which I feel is really solid and looks to last for an eternity.
Very busy with studies atm.

I have been using this same RocketFish mouse "pad" for probably over 10 years:
Its aluminum, its so far been indestructible, and its smooth and accurate.

Despite being a Razer product
The Razer Sphex pads are excellent, no fray, super slim(paper thin), never moves (it's glued down)and super slippery. Cleaning? Wipe it off with a damp towel.

I have one of the Corsair pads people rave about, hate it. I need more dpi to compensate, has higher drag and over time will fray. It also skates around my desk and messes with keyboard placement.

I love cloth mouse pads and love Artisan, I've bought 4 over the years, but they ALWAYS fall apart on me after just 4-6 months. The Hein Hard is my fav probably, but sadly that too started coming apart at the edges after a few months.

I've had my qck+ for... 4 years? It hasn't frayed in any meaningful way, still tracks extremely well and when washing I just use a soft brush and hot water.

I can't get used to hard pads. There's no doubt they're easier to clean but that's the least of my worries, realistically.

And stitched mats are no good for me when it comes to gaming. The raised stitching reduces the usable area. When your mouse inevitably smacks into the edge you're as good as dead when your crosshair jumps.

Have NEVER cleaned a single mouse pad in my entire Life (trust me I'm very old) - far cheaper and quicker to BUY another mouse pad or even better yet, buy several so that when one gets dirty dump it in the bin and bring out the new one.

Nothing complicated here, simple way to live without any worries about any stupid "dirty" mousepad  ;D .

Unless you're like my dad, who cuts old thick mousepads into smaller pieces and uses it for damping, instead of buying, you know, damping foam specifically.

I use the one from massdrop at work - definitely a nice setup if you don't move your desk items out of the way to work on stuff. The stitching around the edge works quite well to keep it from fraying. Also adds some sound reduction i suppose.

Some facts about "Australia" - it's already the largest Waste Depot on this planet which already stores the World's Most Toxic Chemical and Nuclear Waste here.

My used mouse pads are quite benign compared to the poisonous crap that's oozing out of the ground, why do you think we export about 95% of food grown here instead of eating it ourselves  ;D .

Mouserug. Looks great, feels great, very robust, easily cleanable, instead of super slick some resistance like a solid confident feel. Comfortable without a wrist rest getting in the way due to 4mm blown rubber. Downside is $20 for tiny mat. Good for coding perhaps not gaming. If you want good larger cloth for gaming their are the Razer offerings. Only good things they make IMO.

My mouse pad experience is limited, but I might as well share the pad that I've been using for the last ~5 years: the SteelSeries Rubber Base gaming pad.

I find it to qualify all my mouse pad requirements, quality cloth top that slides well but also feel pleasant, grips the desk, durable, long lasting, and, above all, dead simple.

It's inexpensive and is one of the few parts that I've never once considered swapping out. In my opinion, the best mouse pad is one you don't notice.

So, QcK.

I bought mine almost 7 years ago, when there were basically no alternatives at that price point. Since then, however, almost everyone who had anything remotely associated with PC gaming (like, making CPU coolers) has released a bunch under their brand. All these new mousepads are nearly identical, but only _nearly_ as there are slight differences in texture, thickness and price.

SteelSeries QcK has turned out to be my least favorite in the end, because the texture isn't suited towards fast, effortless sliding. There are also pads with better size/thickness for the price. I mainly use a plastic pad these days (SteelSeries 4HD), but if I had to pick a cloth one, it'd be CM Storm Speed RX from what I've tried.

Yeah, QcK... I knew there was a better name for it.

You clearly know mouse pads better than I do, but I've never felt that I was putting in 'effort' when using it. Maybe the cloth is just worn down, or maybe I'm just a filthy casual. Either way, I'll have to take a look at the Speed RX. Thanks for the rec!

I don't even know, if they still sell them. Probably not, because the CM *Storm* brand has been deprecated.

Anyway, there's a ton of these pads these days. Besides SteelSeries QcK/SteelPad and CM Storm Speed RX (there was another model with a slower texture too), I've had some from Kingston, Corsair, Roccat (those were at least a bit different) etc. Choosing an exact model is a matter of what exact size, rubber thickness, cloth texture and price you're looking for. Like, let's say I want something very wide, but not too deep (i.e., closer to 30 cm than >45 cm), thicker than the basic 2mm rubber, faster than QcK and as cheap as possible… that leaves me with only one pad, then another a bit thicker for extra €5 and one or two more that are a worse match in terms of size.

All that said, I use only a cheap pseudo-branded mousepad/deskmat these days, besides the aforementioned plastic 4HD:

Quote
What I do use is C-Tech Anthea XL, which is ridiculously cheap (€7 in a local store), has all the bell and whistles (stitched edges, 4mm thickness, decent texture), and fits my tray perfectly (90×27 cm). The only downsides are the fugly red logo (but I usually have something covering it), and who knows how they've made it so cheap... but then again, there's no guarantee, that SteelSeries' or anyone else's suppliers don't use child labor and what not either.

I had the Largest Fabric Steelseries Qck+ before and hated that the edges separated and peeled back ever so slightly and although I could and did wash it a few times, it never looked as good as it did when new.

The 4HD still looks brand new. I have no regrets about the purchase. I will never go back to a fabric mat.

QCK XXL.

Finding the hard reflective surface of the 4HD to be a bit too glidy. I find myself misclicking with slight movement, need to keep my wrist more stabilized when clicking. For gaming it's great, but for regular use the missed mouse clicks are annoying.

I used a Artisan Hayate for a good year but recently switched to a QcK Heavy. I like this one much better.

I haven't tried other Artisan pads but QcK seems to be best bang for the buck.

I've been perfectly happy with the performance of my QcK and QcK+.

But I prefer the Zowie G-SR. The combination of the material, the stitching and the much less intrusive logo gives it a more premium look and feel. But in terms of performance, I don't really notice any difference between this and the QcK's. Either works just fine.

I believe the optimal setup would be to have your actual desk as the mousepad, so that begs the question: What desktop surface is best for laser tracking? I would guess aluminum or glass, although I reckon a quartz desktop would probably be the best material in terms of comfort.

After trying a bunch of different mousepads, I can say that Artisan mousepads are probably the best out there.
Aside from the different choices in materials, they also offer varying sizes, hardness and thickness for each.

I currently own a Zero MID Large (4mm thick) and Hayate Otsu MID Large (3mm).

One-of-a-kind custom pairings turn out the best. For example I had a tiny but heavy Logitech E110 wireless mouse back in the 1024*768 era, which I used on high sens and high accel, double teflon sliders and small, extremely grainy round pad I purchased in 2007 from a ticket office in a Greek museum (obviously, by 2018 it shines like a well-polished space bar), and it was the best thing I could think about bar the occasional stiffening of my fingers due to prolonged use of claw grip.

Otherwise I loved Razer Goliathus Speed (for optical mice and RTS games) but after purchasing Steelseries's whatchacallit hard pad I've kept it and eventually bought a laser mouse to match (the Sensei). The pairing isn't bad but not spectacular either. I'll probably want to go wireless again for gaming now that signal deterioration can probably be avoided by state-of-the-art tech. And that may well be an optical mouse, meaning back to cloth pad.

A while ago I purchased a Steelseries QCK for my Internet dweller of an aunt, who plays no games whatsoever, along with a gaudy gaming mouse with huge green lights pretty much because no other purchase made practical sense in comparison. She has loved the setup ever since and she swears she would never go back to a non-gaming mouse or pad.

I got this 36"x20" one a couple weeks ago: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWVK1F7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_eweiBbJ1A3E8H

I think it's PU leather. I wanted a pad with no raised edges and a surface that doesn't absorb moisture like cloth.

Definitely not as smooth as a hard surface, but I'm happy with it.

I have a glass one by Steel Series that I have had for 15 years and it is great.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

I am a big fan of the Steelseries Dex.

Mouse performance: Excellent, the mouse tracks incredibly well. Laser and optical both work well.
Surface glide: Smooth but a hint of tactility. A good compromise from other cloth pads that feel too soft.
Durability (will it fray or fall apart after a while?): I've beat the **** outta it and it's going strong.
Ease of cleaning: Very easy to clean. I like toothbrush and soap but I've heard some users even put it in the washing machine.
Material:Cloth, but very thin and feels closer to a "hard" mousepad.
Style: Relatively lowkey. No major branding or graphical annoyance.

I use an Artisan Ninja FX Shidenkai, ordered direct from Japan. It's flexible but with a glass-coated surface. When I first tried it out it was like using an air hockey table. Now every other pad feels like I'm dragging my mouse through the mud. I only wish they made one that was slightly larger, as I game at pretty low sensitivity.

I have used several mouse pads including SteelSeries QCK Heavy, QCK+, Zowie GSR, GSR Red and Blue, HyperX Fury S and some basic $10 ones too.
I will always prefer QCK Heavy over any pad. That's my preference. It doesn't mean it will be best for everyone.

My Logitech G440 is dying since a buble appear and gently expand herself after that the mousepad hit the foot of an aliminium iMac.
I search a replacement and here are some thing to consider.

I got a Razer Sphex 1 for 15€ (slim as a A4 Paper) and this was very good but maybe too fast for control on some FPS. The glue bottom wasn’t working after many times…
I got a Razer Ironclad for 70€. Never buy this **** : The aluminium surface wasn’t straigth and this isn’t a full aliminium deskpad. There is some paint over it who disappear very fast and make the pad innoperative.
The G440 was very good, maybe a little speed but close to the surface I want for my use (Gaming, some FPS etc).

Do you any suggestion before I re-buy another G440 ?  :)

I've been using Steelseries mousepads for 6+ years and after I clean them they still look brand new with zero to little wear.  I think the wear is from the scrubbing pads I use to clean them.

But they're not only great for resisting wear, the performance is perfect. I've been using the same Logitech MX Master mouse for the same amount of time as the pads.

However I don't play games or need any super precise tooling for my job like maybe a graphic artist might.

Mouse rug. If I did not say that already. It is very small but the quality is bar none. Same one 17 years! Plus works great. It has these tiny "hairs", billions of them that makes glide superior. Like floating on air.

I had a glass one. I didn't like it very much. And my office gets a bit humid in the summer so the glass would fog up and make the mouse a bit harder to glide across.
