IBM terminals?
« on: Mon, 08 October 2018, 17:23:12 »
Hi, I run a site that many people may have visited at one time or another if you like Model M or other IBM equipment :)

I am vising these parts because people seem to seek out and come across IBM terminal keyboards.

I guess that makes my request unusual; I am looking for the actual 3270-protocol terminals with or without keyboard (the keyboards seem relatively easy to find once I have the terminal).  A long term desire has been to get a 3290, one of the first uses of a plasma display.  Yes, I have a mainframe and channel controller and the rest of the equipment to drive this.  If anyone has any leads please drop me a line!

I hate to be a stick in the mud but the best place for these requests based on the community rules is in the GH classifieds section but I believe you need to a have a certain post count to place a wanted listing. Things like this occasionally will show up on eBay. You may ago want to check out Deskthority as well as the other large vintage computing communities such as vcfed. Hopefully you stick around and find something interesting in this community.

Anything with a serial port should connect to a Linux computer.

How usable it is depends on terminal emulation software on clients.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
