Title: Keyboard of the Month - The Return
Post by: katushkin on Fri, 20 November 2020, 10:55:36
Hello friends, it's been a while.

I want to first apologise for my absence. I know there are quite a few of you who like KOTM a great deal, and I'm sorry that I have been away from here for a number of months. I won't get into everything that has happened, but it's had it's ups and downs for sure, as I'm sure everyone's time has this year.

So what now?

Well, I want to bring KOTM back. I want to be able to celebrate those boards that have wowed you over the last 12 month. I want to celebrate this community and how it has grown since I've been gone. I want to do something for all the boards that were nominated and voted on this year, but also all that the limited KOTM competition didn't honour.

So, what I would love is for people to post in this thread one or two boards that have blown their minds in the last 11 months. I know it will be hard, and there is a lot to go through, but I will spend some time this weekend doing the same and trawling through the last few months at all the GBs, custom builds, and mods that I may have missed.

If anyone has any alternatives, I'd love to hear it, either in PM or in the feedback thread.

Hope you are all safe and well, and I look forward to seeing what you all find!

Firstly welcome back, glad you survived :)

Your announcement which should be celebrated and central to the 'community' had 56 views at time of writing, this IC for novelty caps (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=109716.0) has 550+ (the lowest views on the first page) and it was posted 8 hours later.  Hopefully this bump will help...

Thanks mate, we've never had that much interest in here outside of a few regulars. 33,000 seems to be the most views we've ever had, which was when we had three of the same boards up for the vote, but that may be just be because I've been away for so long.

Thank you for the bump though :)

Please make sure it's been posted on geekhack some time in the last year as this is the geekhack KOTM and we don't accept nominations from outside of this forum :)

Great idea, I have a keyboard. IBM 1392595. I am still using it. Amazing.
Edit: This has been an ongoing joke between katushkin and myself.
Nothing to see here. Carry on.

This keyboard I am mentioning wasn't just done in a day. A controller swap with a 1391401 and some clever work to have the indicator lights on it. (I really like having them.) Here are a few pictures I still found from the project.
It wasn't hard to do, just a bit of time and patience. Remember if you get a terminal IBM model M keyboard, there are options. You can use an Orihalcon adapter if you can still obtain one. You can swap controllers and eliminate the frustration of not having a usable keyboard as another example. You would still need an SDL to PS/2 cable.
