[IC] Aster Ergo TKL with F13
« on: Sat, 11 September 2021, 11:39:53 »
Aster Ergo TKL

Let me introduce an ergo TKL keyboard with a concept of stars and spaceship.

This Aster Ergo TKL is a series of 'Corenstellation', a split keyboard with 'Corne' layout.

BTW, we, Mt. Keyverest, have successfully run SEMO TKL Founder's Edition and Standard Edition GB recently.
All the GB participants gave testimonies of high quality and nice typing feel/sound of SEMO TKLs.

We will make Aster Ergo TKL with highest quality.

Ok, let's see the pics of this beautiful keyboard.

Really cool concept, though I'm not sure I understand where the Corne influence comes into play. It'd also help to have an exploded render showing the plate and gasket mounting.

I’ve always wanted a board with this layout, but the execution isn’t exactly my taste. There are some things I could recommend, but for that price I don’t think it’s for me regardless

I'm wondering why there's a gb date before protos have arrived. You have no clue how your first protos are going to go. Definitely need to see exploded render. IC seems very premature. I'm not the hugest fan personally but at least it's something a little different.

Hope you take the feedback and put some more work into the ic once you have prototypes.

There is a keyboard named 'Cornestellation', and Aster Ergo TKL concept is same as Cornestellation. You can find this keyboard on my discord server.

The plate is not the final version.
Will run some simulation of the plate and revise it to get best typing feel.

There are total six gasket mounts. Will upload the pic later. Thanks.

Holy moly that's expensive

Too much 3D machining required, which takes a lot of time for machining.

Also current crazy raw material price is one of the reason of the high price too.
('Not made in China' is another reason for the price)

We make our keyboard by our own(we have our own factory, and even this is not our first keyboard but made lot lot lot of keyboards before). So, if modification is required(actually we do modify before we make the prototype), we can make revised version in a day(anodizing takes some more days but we can handle with the raw version too). Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.

Can vouch for raw material price. seriously limits options . waiting for prices to go back down before pursuing copper /brass extension of project

Some more questions after re-reading the IC:

Will the brass weight be a through weight (both internal and external)?
Will there be an option of badge-less? (Not a big fan of the design)

Yes, the brass weight goes through the bottom case. Both internal and external.

Also please leave suggestion on the IC form about the badge. will definitely consider badgeless design too.

How reliable can your voucher be considering you have ordered one (1) raw one(1)-off that was for yourself? Of course it's going to be expensive.

I really like this idea.

Would really like to see this come to fruition. very excited to see how your prototype comes out.

I would like to add is possibly changing the USB port to be more cohesive with your rear design as it feels very abrupt. Would also rather the badge above the arrow cluster to be an engraving instead.

Otherwise very interested in future updates. GLWIC

Hmmm.. Really love this idea, and its reference too.

I would look into removing either the badge, or the discord-esque looking logo/engraving on the top right. With an already impressive looking layout, having both visual elements on the front as well only busies/muddies the visual language on the board.

My own suggestion would be to take the badge completely from the front, and instead use it as an engraving to replace the little logo up top. Another option could be to eliminate the little logo, and instead of a badge just engraving the constellation where the badge is currently at, cleaning up the look still.

Either way, VERY interested in this!

I hadn't even noticed the badge above the arrow keys, I'd confused that with the engraving you'd mentioned when I said "badge" in my earlier comment. I don't actually mind the badge, it's the engraving / "discord-esque" logo that I dislike.

Cool concept.

I love the layout, back and the USB cutout. The weight and engraving looks stunning. Personally, I don't mind badges when they are not standing out to much. I'm not sure if the angled front profile (wrest rest area) is to my taste.

Let's see where this goes.

I'm with you. The badges are sign of uniqueness and personality of the designer. Almost a makers-mark. That's something which shouldn't be hidden IMO.

That front lip is what's bugging me (I think). Tricky to place. I looks good on traditional 1800 boards, but something about it here makes the angle feel exaggerated -- almost wedge-like.

I personally really dig the wedge-esque look the front has, it gives it a unique personality. That's something that I look for in every board (which is how I've built my collection out so far)

Regarding badges though, I get what you guys mean, but that's when I say it's better to pick one or the other. Having two logos/badges just detracts from the designers work, which should speak for itself without logos and all that.

That being said, I do dig the badge on top of the arrow clusters. The one on top though... it's rough. At least coupled with the badge, it's too much going on.

Gondo's/CK's Sagitarius is a victim of this too. The star constellation in the middle is a beautiful touch on a unique keyb, but then the CK cannon completely ruins the look by adding one element too many to the design.

All of this of course is more design philosophy than anything else lol

Still, really looking forward to this running. I've been wanting a layout like this for forever at this point lol, and this one looks to be a unique offering in that regard  :p

I really dig the TKL Alice design and I think the board itself looks great. However, the price for this board is absolutely insane and I think there aren't enough features/adjustability to warrant such a price tag. I'm sure the group buy and IC will go great and there will be a lot of interest around it, but I can't see myself picking this one up unless there are some changes made (I.E. Hotswap).

The FLX Virgo is another ergo TKL

I know about flx virgo, but it is also not the first ergo tkl. Also the layout is different from flx virgo. The design concept(not the layout) is from a split keyboard named Cornestellation.

I am considering to change the badge design including the outer line.

I too would like more info on where is the corne inspiration + the exploded render and a couple of renders with keycaps on would also be nice to have.

The keyboard design(not the layout) is kind a series design which 'Cornestellation' is the first of this kind of look. I am going to make the prototype in late October or early November. Will update with keycaps on the prototype.

Would you consider maroon or aubergine purple (something that goes with GMK Bingsu)?
