North Carolina Community Meetup Thread [Commuity Meetup #2 Success!!] [Recovering from Asheville Meetup, Local Meetups in Progress]

Weekly Raleigh Meetups

There is a very nice crowd of keyboard enthusiasts right in Raleigh, and we meet up quite often! We go out to eat, have record listening sessions, BBQ's, beer time, coffee house hangouts, etc. If you are ever interested in just meeting some folks and hanging out please just PM me and I'll let you know what the local crowd is up to on any given week  :thumb: We'd all love to meet you/chill!

I'd also be more than happy to help co-plan a meetup in other parts of NC if you are interested in hosting one, and would be more than happy to post any/all info here as well!

Current Community Wide Meetup Plans

Still recovering from the last meetup in Asheville. Now that we have had one successful meetup there, future ones will be far easier to plan I think. It will probably be late 2016/early 2017 when the next huge meetup happens, as KeyCon16 is going to be happening in August(?). So you should be making plans to go to that for the time being!

I could bring a 55g HHKB, Realforce, Novatouch to cover Topre, A Quark and Terminus Mini, the GH60/V60/POK3R so people can see what they like best, and whatever vintage BS or ALPS keyboards I have that others don't bring.

If my gf wasn't away in England around that time (she lives in NC otherwise) I'd totally have an excuse to come... unfortunately I won't make it though.

Yes please!

I can bring the following:

HHKB Pro 2
Poker 2 MX Clears (DSA/Aluminum case)
Realforce 87u 55g (if we are lacking 55g Topre goodness for the meetup)
QFR - MX Greens (will have SA caps on this bad boy)
Razer Orbweaver

I can lug around a Model M if need be...it's a project I am working on but maybe I'll bring it to show you all :)

I won't be of any help because all the dates work for me.  :thumb:

BTW, If anyone is coming in from out of town and needs a bed, I have a spare bedroom if you don't mind sharing with a few dozen keyboards  ;D

Solid! Also, since you are a Raleigh native as well I'll run a few of my location ideas across you just to see what you think as well.

First though was Raleigh Brewing, as they have a spare room and are almost always empty between 12-3ish anyways. I can look into if it needs to be rented at those times or if they'd just let us use it after we pick a date.

If you could negotiate some extra vacation days for me with my company, I'd be there no problem. Sadly, unless flights are extremely cheap, I'll have to pass.  :-/

Very good info, a medium sized meeting room is only $35 an hour, not bad at all.

I'm in Albemarle (about 2 hours from Raleigh), but could make it up on a weekend without too much fuss.

I have 3 different ErgoDox boards (reds and blues, may be modding one to browns) I can bring.  I have a couple old Compaq G11x00 boards I could bring, too, but they're just your standard PCB-mounted ghetto-reds and browns.  I got rid of about everything else once I switched to ErgoDox.
ErgoDoxen 6 total: Cherry MX Browns, Cherry MX Clears, NovelKeys Box Royal, 80g Gateron Yellows, NovelKeys Pale Blues, NovelKeys Box Navy.
Preonic 2 total: OG Gateron Yellows (GMK silencer clips), TBD (unassembled v2).
XD-75 (mixed Gateron Yellows, MX Blacks, MX Clears on layer toggles).
Das S Professional (was MX Blues, now Ghetto Reds).
G80-11900.
ML-4400 (2x) Cherry MY boards.

Solid! any dates work better for you than others?

Also, just so everyone knows, bringing keyboards is not required. If you don't have anything to bring that is fine too  :thumb:

Any dates work for me, but am partial to Sept 26/27 or Oct 3/4

I'm throwing a vote in for The Cowfish (sushi/burgers) if possible. I went to Raleigh this past weekend and their food was amazeballs.

Edit: I'm not sure which I would prefer (Saturday/Sunday), but I'm gonna vote for Saturday, in the event I am too tired to make the 3.5hr return drive to SC I may take you up on your offer of a couch/floor. I may also bring a friend (non GH or r/mk member) along. He does have a mechanical keyboard though  :thumb:

Good to know, I was aiming for one of those weekends as well, probably the first weekend in October. I'll give a few more days for people to reply and then set the date. it will be the saturday as well for sure.

Also, not sure if we could actually have the meeting itself there (it is delicious) but I'm more than open to all of us carpooling to a place to eat after the actual meetup. I'm looking into places now, probably will get a community center room rented or get my wife to get us a room in the awesome library at NC State depending on number of people coming.

Any of those dates are good for me. That may change once school starts, but I doubt that a couple of hours would make much of a difference anyway. In addition to the keyboards, I can also bring my soldering station if anyone needs some; I'm not the best with a soldering iron, but hey, I'm sure that it could be worked out.

Hey all,

I went with October 3rd as the date. This is a Saturday. Again, if you are traveling and need a place to stay there are a few of us here with rooms, self included, and we will be happy to put you up for the night. Please let me know if this date works for you and if so I can start looking for a venue as well and lock that down as soon as possible.

Also, I will have at least one keyboard to give away at the meetup, possibly more. I'd like to give a new mx/vintage keyboard away if possible so I'll be digging around the house for more.  :thumb:

Yeah i will begin looking next week. I'll PM you with a few ideas/quotes/etc. Any place I'll look into will be cheap enough I should easily be able to cover the cost, or be free. Ill ask around and let you know what I dig up

For the beer lovers:

http://theraleighbeergarden.com/

(Attachment Link)

Yeah, I'm definitely down to go out that evening for people than can hang around  :thumb:

Just wanted to do something directly after the meetup that would be good for people of all ages. The beer garden would be slighlty less fun for a 20 year old haha.

So far cooking out at my place is getting pretty much all of the votes, if that keeps being the case I don't see any reason why we don't have the meeting at my place either. I can just get food and drink and some large tables to lay all the keyboards out on (in a room without food an drinks, of course).

Form filled.

Meetup is earlier than expected (I gotta wake up earlier), but this means I probably don't need a place to crash.

I still plan on bringing a friend (I need to get him to sign up here, but he's on reddit so I'll make him aware of the form). Can't wait  :)

The beer garden would be slighlty less fun for a 20 year old haha..

As a twenty year old, I think I'd have to agree. Maybe if we do this again in 2016  :thumb:

Haha yeah, I have to remember some people got started at a nice young age, unlike myself  :))

Had I known about TN ahead of time I easily could have scheduled a meetup there as well. Next time -_- haha

Am I missing something? As a guy I care 0% for my handwriting haha.  :p Heck, my wife's never been able to read any of the notes I've written her probably, just assumes I'm better with words than I am because I have a few crappy poetry books published. Bad handwriting is a good thing  :thumb:
