Approval bump!
-
In for 90! Just waiting till August for my paycheck
-
"EU Proxy coming soon." who will be the eu proxy ?
-
Is it safe to wait for the eu proxy (is a specific amount of switches reserved for that)?
-
Were new molds created for the orange stem?
-
In for...a lot... ;)

in for 90, really looking forward to trying these out finally. always up for trying a new linear
-
So what's the deal with these as opposed to gateron black/yellow/tealios? Just the color or is there some other thing?
-

Housings are stock Gateron housings. The stems are similar to Tealios. Springs are gold, feel better IMO. Mostly though I think the hype is the color. They look and feel awesome.
-
Sigh. Guess I'll get a couple hundred. Maybe put 78g gold springs in some.
-
Were new molds created for the orange stem?
I would also like to know this... is the only custom thing the orange color on the stem or is the stem a completely new mold?
-
In for 110. Let's see how they are. For sure looking cool

Not a new mold.
-
These look like a great switch setup. Sent in my order :thumb:
-
How smooth are these compared to lets say Gateron yellow, Because are the stems just a recolor of the other gateron linear stem?
Edit: Nevermind not a new mold.

Did you guys fix the binding issue with the tops?

Which binding issue are you referring to?

Do these have the hooks like the original ones? Because those destroyed keycaps.

Hey, I've since desoldered the Tangerines from my Singa (referred to here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95157.msg2615446#msg2615446)) and put them in another board. I've also lubed, and spring-swapped my remaining Tangerines and put them in my E6.
I have still not had any instance of binding with these switches. And I'll say again, I find it very hard to believe I just happened to get a batch of 150 perfect switches. I'm gonna lean towards just bad luck in your batch.

You mean like the OG Hirose? No, they dont. I know what youre talking about as the proud owner of a bag of them. No issues like that.

There is, C³ will be administrating it. I am waiting on the link. I believe they ran a GB in China for these not long ago. I will post a link as soon as I have it.

I’ve had this same issue with Gateron switches in the past. I hadn’t heard about it in a while so I thought they fixed it but it seems it still pops up with some switches. It’s the main reason I avoid Gateron-made switches.
For reference I had the issue while using GMK and DSA keycaps.
-
Am I going to need to swap the tops of these so there isn't as much wobble, or is the housing different from usual gateron housing?

Same gateron housings.

gateron stems are what cause most of the wobble, the housings are fine as far as fitment in contrast to cherry. Tangerine stems are basically tealio stems, so they wobble less than normal gats.

I did my experiment with Tai-Hao Cubic bottom-row caps.
Interestingly, I can't replicate the issue with the very same switches I took that video on -- they're still in the tester where I put them originally. I'll experiment a little more. It also didn't happen in every switch, so maybe I just got a weird sample.

Can someone provide a type test? I'm a little confused as to what these switches are different from Tealio beside the springs :/

As of now 10840 / 20000 limit have been claimed

I have a question i am tempted to get them because of the stem color to put it in a cherry housing. But why are the prices so high for a recolored gateron linear switch with a costum spring? Like the gateron black switches stock are going for 0,20 cents a piece on KBDfans but these tangerinese go for 0,60 cents for each switch. Any reasoning why it's so high?

Small run = higher prices. Gat blacks are manufactured by the millions. These are manufactured in the tens of thousands. We have to pay a premium.

So it is Tealios stems with different color in Gateron housings and custom springs?

We're definitely paying a premium considering the China GB was 375rmb for 150 switches :))

Nice! Hopefully the video can help people decide.
I really enjoy using these switches -- I think the milky colored plastic is much softer than the traditional clear Gateron top which ends up softening the sound a lot. The result is something really close to a silenced switch from Cherry when lubed with 205g0 from Switchmod.

Ya, in my experience they are pretty quiet without the mushiness and weird travel of silent switches. Housings are good even if they are standard gat housings. The stems are tealio stems anyways. Like is it pricey? Yes. But is it terrible? No. For switches with stems from the tealio mold and better housings as well as cheaper, they are good.

Are you sure that Tealios have a different stem and that this stem is used?

removed.

nothing against these as they're more about looks than anything, but hopefully they're better than real hirose switches. they're terrible.
Lol. They’re worlds better than the OG HiRose. They just look like them.

Does anyone know if this stem is actually different from regular Gateron linear stems or if it's just the same stem in a different color?

i don't think there's a discernable or notable difference, but i could be wrong
the main difference is the housing and spring
-
That's what i thought. So this switch is just a gateron with different spring. I have round 1 of them and I really like them, but Tealios are noticeable smoother.
-
Not trying to be a **** here but I'm really struggling to see what the value is in these switches apart from being a different colour? (which I realise is more than enough for a lot of people). From reading the thread my understanding is as follows, please correct anywhere I'm wrong:
Housing - Stock gateron
Stem - Supposedly the same as tealio which is apparently the same as stock gateron linears? I haven't tried tealios but I assumed the stem would be slightly different/tuned and Zeal would own the mould and therefore have exclusivity over its use, in the same way as Zealios. It would make sense to me however if the tealio stem is the same as a stock gateron linears as gat linears are pretty great imo.
Spring - Seemingly the only difference, custom gold
So if one doesn't care about colour, surely the sensible choice would be to buy some gat blacks or other linear colour and some gold springs?
-

I mean, the color kind of is the whole point. Limited edition color palet and spring. And they are still a bit cheaper than tealios. I was planning on getting another set of gateron blacks or tealios and change the springs, but these came along so why not I thought.

Totally fair enough, just wanted to be sure my understanding was right. Though this raises the question that surely tealios must be using a different housing (probably the same as zealios). So I guess there is some argument for spending more on tealios for the modified housing and I suppose the purpose of these like you say is if you want a gat black but want it to be orange + the spring. If you don't care about colour then effectively the same switch can be had for much cheaper.

There are no stock Gateron switches with milk tops and black bottoms that I am aware of.

I meant there's no option for that on the forms. do we just put the weight on the "Anything you want to add" ?
-
Can anyone weigh in on milky bottom housings? I have read and heard from some that Gateron Milky bottom housings can be scratchy relative to their black bottom counterparts. I like both 62g and 67g and can switch between the two freely, but I enjoy the look of a milky bottom as well. Would there be any noticeable difference between the variants?

Milky bot is extremely scratchy. Black bottom is definitely the way to go

What a shame, the milky bottoms looked really appealing.

I submitted a form for these switches a few days ago. Haven't heard a reply back from him... is anyone here on the same page with me?

whether are not they are new parts or stock gateron parts, i believe
i've heard from a few reputable people that they're just stock gateron parts (with maybe a new spring?) in funky colors
but no way to say for sure

As i said before everything have been shipped out. Asia order will received early than TKC order cause i ship yours directly. TKC have to wait for them to get it but i think it won't be too late. Just wait a few days. International shipping don't work on weekends.
-
Oh okay thanks! :)
-
Thanks! Can't wait to try them out on the boards !!
-
Received the PayPal tracking just now. Awesome!!!

-
just got mine. i really like them
-
Just got my Tangerines in milky housings. Really like those. From my subjective view they are smoother than stock milky gats. Fully modded they are ofc. buttery smooth.
-
Got our order yesterday. Shipping today!

Hello! Can anyone else confirm how smooth the milky bottoms compare to the stock gateron milky bottoms?

Havent compare those to the stock gateron. But personal i think milky housing and black housing are the same. :thumb:
-
received them last week, but i don't have any gateron to compare with except Tealious and I must say it's pretty much the same. i need to do full assem to able give more thought/feedback

got mine today (black bottom) and must say, i really like these. nice and smooth even stock, and just thumbing through the bag and trying a bunch of random switches they seemed to be quite consistent in terms of smoothness. lubed and spring swapped a couple and popped 'em into a dressed out wy50 and compared them to some lubed/ss'd vint blacks i have and they held their own. very eager to play around with these more and eventually put them in a board
-
My tangerines have been pending shipment acceptance since September 27. Anyone else in a similar situation? I was part of the pre-sale on The Key Company, not the earlier group buy.
-
Anyone tried a holy tangerine? ^-^
-
[attachimg=1]
I tried combining Tangerine with Halo True using Kustom spring named Hing 62g.
Compared to Holy Panda, it has less elasticity but smoother. Also, in my judgement the typing sound is better.

-
I’d be down for another round. I want to pickup some milky top and bottoms this time.

same, i like the milky top/black bottom but would gladly spring for 90 milky top/bottoms. i think early next year would be better than this year though. lol i still haven't lubed the majority of my tangerines and god knows it'll take me until next year to finally finish them all
-
yoo yeah im in for another round.
-
Got mine and I love them! So smooth after lubing with Krytox 205g0. :thumb:
-
any idea for another round? i wanna try the one with the black bottome
-
Mine coming soon.
Eager to compare them with retooled blacks and Tealios!
-
Just talked to Jason, we will run another round of this later :thumb:
Btw, just got my discord set up. Here it is: https://discord.gg/U3mna5h

Are people using the tangerine with the stock spring? Or you guys prefer a different weight? Just curious.

The stock in the milky bottom was too light for me. I used stock black bottom in my LZ CLS ms board (lubed springs only). I really like them a lot

At first the 62g spring felt too light so I swapped them out with 68g springs. But I've since gone back to the original 62gs because they've grown on me to the point where I actually prefer them to heavier linear switches. That said, I leave 68g springs in the space bar and a couple other modifier keys so I don't accidentally press them.

I'm surprised people want R2 when the Linjär GB is going on. The Tangerines are 2x the price of the Linjär and they are fairly similar. Just saying...

Honestly I don't think they will be similar. I bought 70 Linjar but only for its colorway. My experience has been that Tangerines are smoother than a few other Gateron switches.
-
I'm sorry, I don't get it. Why buy a switch for its colorway?
It isn't seen when you have keycaps on.

Not necessarily. Clear and floating key cases do exist. Even if you don't see it, sometimes people want that extra color matching for fun. It's nice to know everything matches, and you can admire it even when cleaning!
Also, the colorway can distinguish them from other switches. Most of these have non-standard springs and housings. Before Novelkeys was stocking milky tops/black bottoms, only Tangerine had it. Linjar has an all nylon housing. Material is very important for sound.
Pretty good deal for only 10-30 cents more than normal Gaterons.

Thank you for going into details.

by the by... I accidentally discovered that the stock springs in the milky tangerines are pretty nifty for jailhouse mods. For some reason, the springs (already the shorter end of mx springs) compress down really far allowing for jailhouse modded switches to have more travel after the bump.
I'm going to say that a Gateron blue housing & stem with j-spacers (lube between to j-spacer and stem to eliminate slight click noise) and a tangerine spring is the best combo I've found for jailhouse to date.
Kinda like a short travel holy panda that has been silenced.

Nice! I want to try that. Does anyone stock the J spacers?

You could 3d print them in a flexible filament though :)

I've not tested this design so I cannot vouch for it.

You can get orings that feel nearly the same, like 95% as good. https://old.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/5rf8dw/jailhouse_blues_w_orings_guide/ (https://old.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/5rf8dw/jailhouse_blues_w_orings_guide/) $13 on Amazon for a 1000 pack.

For the same reason people install chrome parts on their engine. Im a big fan of matching switches to the board. Just my $0.02

We def want to bring this back. For the price,we can't negotiate a better price with Gateron and we do need to pay a lot of tax when exporting things. Actually, with TKC handling this buy,it saved a lot of shipping fees.
So how about a Round 2?

All in, all in. Let's get this going.
How about adding Novelkeys as a proxy for US buyers?

Good idea. I mean he's already proxy for linjar as well as for so why not tangerines as well? :)

All in for a R2. The milky housings are too scratchy so I vote for the black bottom clear tops. The springs in R1 were pretty good on that verse as well.
-
I need milky tangerines asap. :( I already used most of my 270 tangerines and i have at least two upcoming builds.

I've the opposite experience with milky housing. Maybe because i mod these heavily (lubing all possible contact points)

Plan to buy more this time around. Great switches.

Can confirm, the milky bottoms are a lot less smooth (and sound worse) than the black ones. But they take lube just fine, as you found.

I do not have the black bottom ones, my milky bottom ones are scratchy before lubing but scratchiness largely goes away after a thin 3204 lube.

The milky tangerines if lubed properly do not need to hide from any other switches in terms of smoothness. Yes there is a slight scratch in a raw switch but the lube eliminates it. If you prefer raw switch then this will be an issue.
How they sound is honestly a subjective thing. Fact is, they have the deepest sound from all mx switches so far - due to their soft plastic. Also the softer milky plastic does affect bottom out greatly and makes those the softest non silent mx switch. That all is of course for everyone a subjective preference. If someone likes high pitched sound switches with harsh bottoming out, then the milky switch is the worst choice. But if you do like those properties, then its the best.

Agree that the bottoming out on a Gateron milky bottom feels a bit soft. And it is a preference thing.

I really like the milky bottom ones. They've been on my daily driver for about 2 months now. Lube helps but I also appreciate the soft landing.
