History
One day, not long ago, I was browsing RAMA WORKS' website, contemplating the M60-A in Moon, and I took a closer look at their renders. It had a simple grey and blueish-cyan keycap set, which I immediately fancied. Since RAMA and I were DM-ing back and forth about my M60-A Moon pre-order, I asked about the set. Turned out that it was just a render and they suggested I just go make it myself. I started mocking up the set that same evening.
The Moon colour on the M60-A from RAMA WORKS is a cool grey which I really fancy but the icing on the cake was the phosphor filled enamel product code and RAMA logo. These two colours inspired my own colour choices.

He selected Pantones and it will take GMK a bit to receive samples from their plastics supplier. They won't start sampling until there's sufficient orders to make sure resources are not wasted.

That whole thread was very interesting, and I admit, I vastly overestimated the scale of their operations, it seems. I thought their production was part of an industry that was still going strong, but perhaps it should be compared more with vinyl record plants, in that they work a lot with small batches and towards either extremely specific industries or the hobbyist group.
One thing that was weird though is their MOQ. If they work that slowly and at that small scale anyway, why is the MOQ so high? I get that they _want_ it to be high, because it benefits their business, but surely more kits being made _at all_ sounds like a better deal than having a steep limit where kits don't get made at all?
Also, as someone asked in that thread, I hope they do a video tour of their factory, would be extremely interesting to see.

The reason for the MOQ is cost. The setup cost is fixed, whether they make 10 sets or 250. So dividing setup cost by 250 kits is way less per kit than dividing it among 10.
Setup involves installing and tuning the tools for each keycap, mixing the resin colors, purging the tools and equipment of previous color resin, etc. Once a setup is up and running, making more keycaps is only a fraction of the cost. Of course, each keycap requires time, material, inspection, sorting, and packing, so keycaps are not free.
This is why price drops get smaller and further apart as kit quantity increases.

Variable cost remains constant for each kit, so it increases linearly for the full production order as the number of kits in that order increases.
Fixed cost remains constant for the full production order, so it drops per kit as the number of kits in the production order increase.

If you read the GMK Shoko thread, IIRC it's something to do with the MOQ on the amount of pigment/dye they have to buy from another company. For stock colors, they already have the materials on hand, but custom colors have to be a separate order and it doesn't sound like they can obtain the material at lower quantities. That's just my superficial understanding though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it should be paired with Oblotsky's estimates when he tried to run GMK Oblivion R2 with monochrome, Git, and regular mods, along with regular/hagoromo/cadet/hagoromo cadet alphas so people could mix and match, although Umbra kit design 1 would probably work too.

If you read the GMK Shoko thread, IIRC it's something to do with the MOQ on the amount of pigment/dye they have to buy from another company. For stock colors, they already have the materials on hand, but custom colors have to be a separate order and it doesn't sound like they can obtain the material at lower quantities. That's just my superficial understanding though. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Not impossible. Actually keycaps that allow in light are usually quite cheap. The difference is that the legends would have to be see-through. That means we'd only have non-legend color unique and the legends would be a transparent plastic with the color representing whatever color LED you are using - unless you are using per-key individual addressable RGB LEDs.

Firstly, I would like to thank each of you, including the vendors of course, for all your support and help along the way. The road to GB stage was steep and full of traps, and I fell into one or two. I'd like to think I learned a lot and will hopefully be able to activate this knowledge during the upcoming GMK Lunar IC and GB stage (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=103028.0).
Secondly, the group buy stage was probably one of the most stressful events I have ever had. With no experience as to how sales go, you might have noticed that I was freaking out a bit along the way (yes, I'm putting it mildly). This ultimately led to about a week of being basically unable to get any meaningful sleep, with all my dreams being filled by keyboard and keycap stuff. Keeping motivated and staying positive wasn't easy, especially since my first group buy was surrounded by 8 other wonderful sets, including GMK Firefly, GMK Coral, and GMK Café (the 3 that struck my fancy most). And then there was GMK Dracula, which took off faster than the Millennium Falcon doing the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs. That was quite intimidating.
The people who read the "history" part of the first IC and GB posts know that I have a RAMA M60-A Moon Stealth on the way (hopefully shipping soon!) — my first RAMA, my first HHKB, my first inspiration — which was the spark to design GMK Phosphorous. Obviously my biggest dream was for this set to get made for the most selfish reason possible — I wanted it ON MY M60-A! So I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for making this dream come true!

I have some news regarding the NorDEUK kit...
Neutrons — the NorDEUK Kit
After weeks of negotiations with GMK in regard to the NorDEUK kit, we were unable to come to an understanding which would be financially feasible in any way. The costs that MyKeyboard.eu would have had to incur would have been so large, that I wouldn't have wanted them to take them upon their shoulders.
So it is with great saddness 😢 that I have to announce, that NorDEUK will not get made. I admit I jumped the gun saying that "all kits will be made" but I truly believed, especially seeing all the other sets, that we'd get there.
This means that you now have a choice:
- you can get refunded for your whole order
- you can get refunded for just NorDEUK, and keep the rest of the order intact
Either way, please contact MyKeyboard.eu via email, discord, etc.
Colour-matching process
The colour-matching process has been underway for a few weeks now and I'm currently awaiting samples from GMK. To top this off, my personal RAMA M60-A Moon Stealth should hopefully arrive very soon (I already have received my shipping information), so I'll be able to do a comparison on and with a physical keyboard.

As far as extras for this set go, DailyClack have them up right now (my local proxy) so if you missed the buy you can get an order in now to guarantee it. I imagine other vendors will put them up when they're ready.

Please note this image is not 100% colour accurate too. I got it as close as I could to real life, but the lighting really sucks today (cloudy and ugly).
Because of the flat lighting, the difference between the different greys isn't as obvious as in better light (wanted to refrain from using artificial lighting). So, to clarify:
- Pantone Cool Grey 11 C is slightly darker and cooler than Oblivion Alphas.
- Oblivion mods have a darker and warmer grey.
- Turns out that MoDo mods have an identical colour.
- M60-A Moon Stealth is approximately Pantone Cool Grey 10 C.

I don’t think March was ever a realistic date due to GMK’s delays. For example 8008 ran in August and just got approved for production, and was the start of quite a few very big months for GMK buys with some putting up some very big numbers.

Any new updates after a month since the last one? It is also approaching halfway through the estimated ship month.
I think we’re currently looking at early July for shipping from GMK to vendors. VoC just arrived and we’re 18 sets (a few of those are add-ons) further down the timeline. As some of you may know, GMK had some delays some time ago, and it will take a while to get back on track.

I received my set several days ago, and I've been using it since. I thought I would take a few photos to show GMK's quality, since there has been a lot of talk about it on other threads. I personally don't see any issues, and the set looks great! I don't think I want to do a Round 2, but I am considering a Version 2, with some changes, to make both sets unique, but similar enough, to see them as an evolution of each other.
I can't wait to see that! I hope you end up going for it!

I know GMK Lunar still hasn't shipped yet, so maybe Mordin is waiting on that before running more stuff! Will have to join Phosphorus R2 if it does happen!
