Spacebar Spring 4 Gaming
« on: Tue, 18 February 2020, 11:12:32 »
In any game with a double jump (doom 2016) or rapid (successive) spacebar use,  an 80g spring is prolly a good idea.  either black/green/clear spring.

With the 60 or 45 spring, it's very easy for the switch to chatter if a jump input is not fully depressed, causing a pre-launch of second jump.

Thoughts ?

That's a good point. I have never even bothered to think about it. The spacebar never did seem quite kosher in games with cherry mx reds, but I'm not even sure my dedicated gaming keyboard uses a red switch even for the spacebar. I should try using my intact Unitek K-151L to compare. I think it has a linear grey in it.

Yea, with reds this could happen more easily than on green/blue/clear.

This will prolly be the case with all leaf spring style switches.

Should be fine for a space bar, even if you like medium weight switches.

In my opinion the space bar should be as light as possible

The bar is heavier, so a little more oomph shouldn't stand out perceptually.

I'm just asserting that Maybe it's a bit easier to mistime successive space bar presses if the spring is light.

I was agreeing with you. I was just trying to reassure Sintpinty.

I like to keep the weighting at the same as the rest of the switches. It is uniform, and it doesn't feel out of place. I used to type on a board with MX Black, with MX Gray for the spacebar, and it did not feel very nice. I had to press extra hard on the spacebar, and it distracted me from typing.

I think different weightings is pretty common on retail boards. Maybe I'm just more accustomed to that than customs. The only board I have that I use somewhat commonly that I know for sure has all the same switches throughout now is my gaming rig's K70, and I rarely type on that for long. My cop keyboard has jades for all but the space bar, which has one navy. I did that because it was my first box jade-configured board and I was concerned with all of that box jade return nonsense, and went with a heavier spring for the largest key. That turned out to not be a problem at all, but I don't mind the navy switch for the space bar on an otherwise jade board myself.
